Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

No point whinging about a player who didn't want to be here, when the majority do.

Agreed about Gawn injury, but most teams are the same (dockers probably the only ones who can cover their number one ruck).

If English goes down Dogs have to ruck either Darcy or Lobb full time. If Marshall goes down the Saints have Tom Campbell. If Soldo goes down the Power have Jordon Sweet and so on and so on. There aren't many good ruckman around and there are hardly any AFL standard rucks in the VFL.

I’m not whinging just stating the obvious - the deal we got for LJ was not “the best value ever” - simple

was it all that was on the table - maybe - but best value ever is laughable - in value terms we are miles behind on that trade atm

Well yeah but you very rarely get what a player is worth once they are out of contract and want to leave, given the players can choose where they want to go.

We are very lucky Freo tanked last year and we got Windsor!

As Petty is contracted in 25 they’ll need a top 10 and a top 20 pick to satisfy us. Either that or a top liner from their list who wants back to Vic. Any less would be unders.

Exactly. Once he is OOC this changes, but for the end of this year we can just say no deal and he comes back for another season. These articles saying 'Crows think they can get him' are all just for clickbait, fact is we don't have to trade.

Future first and an Adelaide death ride coming up.

First and future first with our 2nd going back. Same as Lever deal. Seems fair for a key position player in his prime that can play both ends and is still contracted.

Their first this year is currently pick 6.

Hopefully we can change his mind.

I can't see how we don't hold Petty to his contract for 2025 unless we have a proven and experienced key forward to replace him. The club owes it to itself and its members to look after its backyard first and foremost (which they didn't do with the Grundy trade)

We should tell Adelaide that if a forward hasn't agreed to come to us before or during trade week this year, then we're not trading him.

Not changing my stance on this one.

No experienced key forward coming through our doors, then no Petty/Adelaide trade for 2025.

What's more important?

1) Trade Petty and obtain a good trade by way of potentially two top 20 picks for the 2025 season but having no replacement (assuming BBB retires and we have to persist with Schache if Jefferson and Adams don't develop)

2) Retaining Petty for 2025 who will provide us with a bona fide KPF/KPD to help us contend for another flag at the expense of receiving a mediocre draft pick return for the 2026 season because we won't have bargaining power.

I know which option I'm taking.

The club are resigned to the fact now we will likely lose him at year’s end.
I was originally of the understanding he was more than happy here, but they held him to his contract for this year given how important he is to our side.

Whether it be the money or not, he is apparently “desperate to get back to SA”.

I know you can't judge everything on game day but he looked as invested as ever on the field last week and was sticking up for his teammates such as Max when Hawks players had a crack at us.

Makes you wonder what's changed in terms of his homesickness from October 2021 when he committed medium term (2025) to the current day where he is allegedly desperate to come home.

I can’t answer that sorry mate. As I said it may be money related or it may not be.

That was purely what I was told in a conversation from a very reliable source.
Of course the club will do everything they can to keep him, they just don’t think they’ll be able to.

If he wants out nothing we can do. Just need him to give max effort towards a flag tilt before sending him on his merry way. Look for the best deal we can at the trade table.

P.S. I want a future first as part of the deal because I miss death riding.

It looks like Jeffo ahead of Petty and if so, he looks taller than Petty. In another few photos of them, I thought the same thing.

Petty is listed as 197 cms. So if Jeffo is taller, he has grown since being drafted and will be a big unit.

I think he will become another key forward with us, hopefully playing alongside JVR and Fritta for several years.

Jeffo has shown absolutely nothing at VFL level, and doesnt look like it either at this point in time. weve got another 2 years of him to hopefully show us his wares. god knows we need him to!

I think reading between the lines the farm is being offered to Petty not the MFC

This could be similar or worse than the LJ fiasco - the compensation in that case was well under market imo and as time moves on it looks even worse. Players that can have a significant impact on the outcome of individual games are as rare as hens teeth - LJ is unquestionably in that category now and will become more valuable in time. For us Petty is close to that because he is our most versatile tall (the main question mark on him would be capacity to stay on the park consistently)

I’m still hopeful he decides to stick with us but if he is determined to leave get ready for us to to very disappointed with the compensation

With ya on being hopeful he stays but if it's the Crows then they will be coughing up heaps in salary for him and I trust 1st round picks for us.

Hopefully if he does want to go back to SA, then Port also put a big number in front of him too.  I would love a true bidding war to break out if we are to lose him (but would much prefer him to decide to stay though).

Sorry but why would we be getting a “mid teens” compensation pick?

Petty vs McKay

24 years vs. 26 years old

Pick 37 vs Pick 21

62 games vs 71 games

1x Premiership vs Nil.

McKay Essendon Deal

6 years at $850k pa = Round 1 compensation pick (#3)

John Ralf Reported Offer

5 years at $800k pa = Mid Teens

Get off the jungle juice, picket!

May is 78, which leaves us with only Lever as a tall back in 2 years.

Or are you claiming Hore, Howes or Turner as our next key back stars? 🤪

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
