Yeah , ice cream is food so presumably its free with your supa buffet lunch and dinner extravaganza.

Dew would definitely pass for a fitness instructor on a Carnaval cruise ship. Some of those yanks are enormous pigs and have to be brought on board with machinery.

What was the scuttlebutt around Jennings leaving us? Did him and Goody clash?

I know there was no 6-6-6 in 2018 but some of our offensive work was bloody good with Jennings there.

Offence was good, but defence not so good... partly personnel, partly far too aggressive.

Jennings is behind the GWS game plan that could well win them the flag this year after. After a slow first half they have been one of the form teams in the second half of the season and I reckon will beat the Filth tonight.

I think GWS will win tonight too, but you reckon the head coach might be behind GWS' plan or nah?

Not fussed about Stuart Dew's weight. If he personally wants to get fit and healthy that's totally up to him.

Other options include; Andrew McQualter, Leon Cameron, Blake Caracella, Cameron Bruce, Brett Ratten, Daniel Giansiracusa, Scott Burns, Ashley Hansen, Justin Leppitsch, Nigel Lappin, Steven King and Matthew Knights are a few names worth considering.

I would also definitely inquire with Trent Cotchin and Joel Selwood to see if they are interested in a coaching role.

Not sure Goody is valued anywhere like a Hardwick or Clarko, but hard to say a coach on the rise shouldn’t attach themselves to the Dees midfield.

Reckon the Dees forwards are a huge opportunity too for a good coach to come in and fix them up

And I don’t think he should be unless he can win 3 flags

We need to cast the net high and wide our next assistant coach is waiting in the wings and will relish the opportunity to coach our midfield group with their own inputs on how to make us better. It may be someone mentioned on this site and it might be someone from left field. Our FD will already be in full search mode it’s not like they don’t have the real info on all their opponents or know who is innovative and cutting it up at another club. We will see.!!!

Joel Selwood would be fantastic.

Im not a fan of Stewy Dew as a coach. Politically correct people might not like it being said, but a coach presenting themselves to young footballers in a very overweight (practically obese) physical condition is not a good look. How can others take your messages about discipline and getting the best out of yourself as an athlete, when you yourself are clearly not practicing what you preach? Harsh but unfortunately I think a valid opinion about Dew.

I completely agree, and no disrespect to Stewie Dew (seems like a nice enough bloke) but in my opinion a fit strong coach who can practice what he preaches will get more respect than a fat unfit coach. Look at Leigh Matthews in his coaching days, looked tougher than most of the players, even as an older coach at Brisbane.

Not sure why everyone is so keen on Stewie Dew (repeated failure at Suns) and Ratten (perennial mid-table coach) to replace someone who was the matchday coach at the Dee's.

Much rather try an untested at senior level Michael Barlow than either of those two. Cam Bruce or Justin Leppitsch is probably ideal though.

Personally I would like to see Goody coach up in the box watching and making moves but come down from time to time but as i said it is my only my personal view.

Same.  At least during the first 10 minutes or so at the start of the game,  after half time and/or each quarter.

Ensuring the shape is as per what you train and game is on your terms across each area of the field before coming down as the main voice / guide with the players at ground level.

Need to see what the oppo is bringing with match ups, shape & transitional / stoppage methods/structure as well.

I just think you're potentially missing too much from the get go and spending the entire match down at ground level.

Ultimately you are answerable if the oppo have changed their expected modus operandi or a few key match ups / shape of their zone / extra number/s at contest etc and for whatever reason those in the box either aren't seeing it, or even if they are, maybe they're not as concerned about the effect (less experienced / diff way of seeing the game) than you as the more experienced head coach might be.

I thought Ratten was pretty much done with footy now after leaving the assistant role with North?

Impression i had was he didn't want to comtinue in any sort of significant role in general and had had enough.

Or did i miss something?

PS - DD Yze was the voice but Goody has Richo and Chaplin in the box feeding match day info back via Yze throughout the game and he obviously had great confidence in that trio. If he started running up and down to the box it would undermine the confidence of the group in the box.!!

Yeah and he'd spend half the game in the stairwells..

I reckon he'd be a great Ice Cream salesman purely for the fact that he'd be respected.

Who knows how he will go. He wasn’t a good midfield coach though, just like Stafford isn’t a forward line coach, and like Goodwin isn’t a competent coach. I’m indifferent to Yze departing, as we didn’t best utilize him when he was here.

Bold thing to say about a guy who has taken the team to a flag and 3 consecutive top 4 finishes.

It would be an enticing position as you are practically the game day coach of the team with Goodwin downstairs.

Yze was obviously very good but our ball movement was really quite poor and our skill execution and decision making also under enormous pressure because of our ‘defence first and defence last’ game style. I hope we get someone to release the shackles and that will make for a happier and less boring team.

No idea who that would be but we will get someone good - that’s what good clubs do.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
