We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

My ideal off-season would be as follows:

- Trade for Mabior Chol to be our ruck/forward (44 goals in 2022 show he is no slouch)

- Trade Grundy for pick 22 and then look for a cheap back up ruck option (Hayes or Flynn spring to mind)

- Utilise our picks pick 13, 22, 24, 34 and future first to end up with two top 10 picks and ideally another within 20 this year

- Draft one of McKercher, Duursma or Sanders with our first pick

- Draft O'Sullivan with our next pick

- Draft a classy ball user with our 3rd pick and Kynan Brown with a later pick

- Trade a 3rd rounder to Adelaide for McAdam

There will be other players that I'm sure will pop up, but that to me is the key things we need to address.

Oh and I would not be trading Tomlinson and plan to play him with Lever and May next season and a forward line with Petty, JVR and Chol.

Potential team:

B:        McVee        May              Rivers

HB:     Salem          Tomlinson    Bowey

C:       McKercher   Viney           Hunter

HF:     Petracca      Petty            Neal-Bullen

F:        Fritsch         JVR              Pickett

R:        Gawn           Oliver           Brayshaw

Int:      Chol            McAdam       Sparrow        Chandler

Looks great but where is Lever.!!

Darcy Moore is one of the best high marks in the game, he has a slight susceptibility to body contact which is why he’s better playing more zone. But his run and jump is elite.

Watch this cut up of O’Sullivans game. Excellent positioning. Gorgeous hands at ground level, the way he holds, shimmies and releases handballs is better than just about any mid in this draft.

But starting from the first few contests and throughout the video he’s letting the ball get over the back or getting out marked in contests. Very rarely does he get a clean spoil or leap (Lever) or push bodies out of the way (May) to intercept mark. Teaching him to spoil shouldn’t be too hard, he’s in position and has the athleticism, but teaching anyone to take contested marks is very hard.

I’ve watched football for 40 years. I have not seen a better young key defender. This kid has sticky hands, is athletic, great user of the footy, fantastic decision maker, and most importantly - has height. I’d take him with our first.

The Roos will secure picks two and three, with clubs now believing they could secure a mid-first round pick from the AFL at pick 11 — after the non-finalists — to help preserve the draft order which will be impacted by academy and free agency picks.

Thanks for the breakdown. Wow, even more reason to go after the GCS pick 4. People say the Swans pick 11 shouldn't be in the conversation for Grundy but the first round might go up until pick 25 this year. Swans pick 11 I have as pick 18 based on bids and this additional North pick...wow, give them Grundy pick 24 and 32 and call it a day. Picks 11 and 13 and a future 2nd to GCS for pick 5 that will become pick 6 or 7 after bids on Walter and possibly Read.

Power interested in Soldo after securing Sweet?

They're hitting Grundy/Melbournesque levels here..

They do need to replace Lycett and probably Dixon who can't be trusted to be healthy, so it's not that crazy. It would also mean at least 1, if not both of Hayes and Teakle are on the trade block.

How about this for a scenario:

- Pick 5 take Nick ‘Wizard’ Watson

- Send 2024 first rounder to Richmond for Tom Lynch.

- Pick 32 to Adelaide for Shane McAdam

- Send Grundy to Sydney for pick 22. Then package up picks 13, 22 & Jefferson to Geelong for pick 7. They can use those picks to regenerate their midfield and forward line in the post Danger/Selwood/Hawkins era.

- Pick 7 take Conor O’Sullivan

McVee May O’Sullivan

Salem Lever Rivers

Langdon Petracca Brayshaw

Watson Petty McAdam

Fritsch Lynch Pickett

Gawn Oliver Viney

Sparrow Smith Bowey JVR ANB Hunter Tomlinson

Agreed! 😎👍

Would be an ideal long-term replacement for Steven May.

It is also another reason that the Demons should aim to get as many picks in the top 15-20 as possible.

Which will ensure sustained success at the Melbourne Football Club.

Anyway, I have full faith in Jason Taylor and the rest of the recruitment team at the Demons.

Is Stephens still on the table? Wouldn't mind him for part of the Grundy deal.

I'd take Watson and O'Sullivan, but Richmond will want picks this year, not futures.

I'd also go Lynch and think they'll want a late first or early second for him, plus us taking the whole contract.

I like the creativity here but surely Lynch is not worth a 1st rounder.

Does the Roos getting pick 11 mean they don’t get additional access to Ryley Sanders?

Well there are first rounders and there are first rounders. Our future first is likely/hopefully to be pick 15 - 18. Shuffle that along another few with the charity academy and whatever selections and it would seem about right.

To put it in perspective we picked Bailey Laurie with pick 22.

Lynch would give Jeffo more time to build a tank and muscle up

And if not Jefferson then definitely Van Rooyen. Still only 20yo and far from the finished product physically and in terms of experience. I think we need to be very careful we don’t develop ‘JVR the Saviour’ syndrome at such a young age.

Tom Lynch at FF while May & Gawn have probably two more prime years left makes a lot of sense to me.

My info is the McKay offers aren't enough for Band 1 compo. Wonder if 11 is their compo instead of end of first round?

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
