Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Yes, Petty up forward, great, yadda yadda. But we can't be leaking 15 goals each week because we've moved him out of the back line - where he plays (played?) such an important role.

Resurrect Tommy Mac as second KPD until Adams is ready?

The scores we've conceded lately is not all due to Petty moving from the bakline. Goody has said that we've changed our game plan and personnel to improve our forward efficiency.

I couldn't imagine us coming back from 20+ point deficits (Lions and Tigers), with the way we were playing 4 weeks ago. Even against the Crows, we were able to stop their charge in the last qtr by kicking 3 quick goals, only to let them back into the game again.

So for me it's give and take. Personally, I gave us no hope of winning the flag 4 weeks ago, but I'm semi confident with the way our team is now structured. If Tomlinson needs to be replaced, it's with Smith or Hibbo.

Sensible comments MO. Let's see it work out. Can always chxnge mid game. Tmac is the elephant in the room who may save it as you say if we need the big tall 3rd defender. Would love that. Love Tmac he deserves a break. Smithy is handy though also.

Neita was a very strong player but from my memory he dropped more than he took.

Isn't it curious ( great) that Petty is being compared to Neita and JVR to Schwarta. ?

Remember the great Neita played in defence first before becoming our greatest goalscorer, over 600.

Csn JVR and Petty get 1000 goals between them if they last 10 years or more?  (Really silly question but why not tease our Demonlanders with some positive thoughts for the future?)

We need to make sure we have the third tall in defence still whether that be Tommo, Turner, even TMac in short term. Long thought Smith is the ultimate sub.

The Schack Attack is an option as well. Despite mostly being a defensive forward, he did some decent jobs also in defence for the Bulldogs...

T MAc is cooked in my view  neither fwd or back I hope he recovers from injury cant but see him playing this year and will have to work hard er to get a gig next year if at all. Resurrect is the right term for what is required

I loved this summary from The Mongrel Punt (the bolded section made me laugh):

----------------

Now, what do we have here? A maring forward that genuinely looks like he wants the footy and leaps at it like he owns it! That’s what we have, and he has come from the forwards’ graveyard to do it.

The Dees have a bit of a history with turning defenders into gun forwards, with the Coleman Medal-winning efforts of David Neitz, after playing in defence for several years, the standout. However, with six goals from Harrison Petty, the Dees may have found the best way to solve their key forward issues in 2023. Petty returned six goals in a dominant display, playing against a Richmond defence that, on paper, should have been able to make life very tough for him.

He took four contested grabs and made every post a winner, not missing as he powered the Melbourne forward line home with two of the Dees’ six last quarter goals. He was aided by the continued development of Jacob van Rooyen, who genuinely looks like a power forward these days. I mentioned Petty’s contested marking, and whilst JvR had only the one contested grab, one of his biggest assets is that he has no fear when attacking the footy. He hits packs like they shot his dog or something, determined to either mark the footy, or make sure there is carnage left in his wake.

When you add in the resurgent Jake Melksham, suddenly, this forward setup that was perceived as a problem started to look very menacing.

If they can maintain the rage as they head toward September, regaining Bayley Fritsch on the even of finals might just make this group a nightmare to match up on.

Your view may be ok but it's the MFC that know his situation. We can only hope once he is fit they Casey beckons and a defensive role as start May be best offered.

He played reasonably well there for the Dogs in their 2021 grand final run, he'd be worth a try over a full pre-season with the likes of Lever, May and Tomlinson (if he stays) to learn off, lets be honest Keath and Cordy weren't ever going to offer the best leadership in defense, and the voice's of Lever and May could really transform him.

I feel like Brad Green kicked 6 at some stage and I reckon Cam Bruce did too (or perhaps 8 or 9 against the blues one time?)

Round 6, 2004 Cam Bruce kicked 7.2 and had 25 disposals and we won by over 100pts v Carlton, remember that game clear as day.

Random stat I like is Adem Yze kicked 5 goals in a game 5 times as well.

I'd argue, that if not for a non-call on Gus in the GF, he was likely to kick a goal 35 meters out directly in front, and could have turned momentum again to the Dogs. He could have been our 'Harmes to Fritsch' moment. Sliding doors and all that guff...

Nonetheless, this aint no emergency, and we don't need to break glass.

Extra amusing due to the presumed etymology of 'pedantic'.

But alas the term has nothing to do with feet according to the Google robots, which offer anti-romantic hero John Donne as the first to textually adopt the French equivalent, pédantesque, in the poem 'Sunne Rising,' in which the protagonist desires black-out curtains so as to linger longer in bed with his lover, saying of the morning sun, 'Sawcy pedantique wretch, goe chide Late schooleboyes.'

It's worth noting that the word sun was once spelled as 'sunne' but somehow the English language and that giant fiery orb in the sky both survive to this day, and that the concept of chiding schoolkids coincidentally featured in the very first recorded use of pedantic in written English. Also interesting is that the word 'donnish' is given a synonym for pedantic, despite having nothing to do with the metaphysical poet John Donne.

Credit to Goody for revisiting the Petty asa forward experience. I thought it was done and dusted and couldn't work out why he supposedly chucked it in. I Guess Tommos good form gave him some freedom to try once more. So glad he did. I think Petty has returned to his proper position.

I actually think we can build a forwardline around Petty and JVR. They are both competitive animals, great marks and good endurance athletes. This will help Jefferson to take his time to come, and when ready I see him as a good third option. Melky probably keeps him out for a while and it will be interesting to see if he and Fritta can operate together with 2 other talls.

The focus now I see is that 1 defender spot. May has benefited from Tomlinson being a lockdown on the main key forward. We probably need another gun defender to fill Perry’s spot and relieve May and Lever to intercept.. not sure Tomlinson will provide this next year and beyond.

Of course! Although at this point we’re just determining how spectacularly wrong someone can be.

I would also add that Tom McDonald has achieved it twice in his career.

The fact I couldn’t remember that Pickett did it only two years ago is concerning. I think I might need a ct scan.

It was against Port, so clearly no need to get your head checked.

Certainly wasn't expecting him to play again this year, but he's potentially an option to fill the Petty void down back with a full proper pre-season and guidance there.

We've gone from having a very low amount of key forwards to a huge amount (although not all are ok) but by taking a key defender away to do this, I think we're short on depth there. If we persist with Petty forward, we need options and Schache is one that might be handy depth down back.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
