Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I do wish they wouldn’t name the team in such ridiculous positions - it is very annoying and totally pointless IMV.

I suspect TMac is in to give flexibility with Petty - I think TMac might go back and Petty forward. And if May was injured last week - he looks and played as if he was - that’s another reason to keep TMac in.

Pulling the wool over Dima's eyes. Wonder if it will work?

one of Bowey, Jordon Sparrow , or Hibberd

will miss. Don’t think Grundy will miss.

Laurie , Turner and Dunstan I think will miss

Maybe Viney …looked pretty sore …

Sounded like a decent night WC.

I'd be astonished if they play Macca in defense  OF aside from drifting down there for.support late in a quarter/match or following/trying to strech his opponent.

a question , can you get general admission on anzac eve  ?  cheers and go dees

In the past I have rocked up with my general admission membership and been able to get a seat, albeit way up high on level 4.  I just tried upgrading my general admission membership barcode then on ticketek and it doesn't show any available seats.  I am assuming this means all reserve seats have been sold.  BarnDee I may be joining you in the back row of level 4!

I think it's clear they'll try and stretch Richmond's lack of notable rucks and injury hit back line by including Gawn over Brown.

I imagine Gawn will play more forward and Grundy majority ruck given Gawn's lay-off. I'm still worried that we're bringing him back too soon and I'm not sure we just wouldn't wait another week.

Richmond are without Tarrant, Gibcus and Broad. Gawn's height will be a nightmare if he plays.

We better bring heat and intensity all game otherwise Richmond will hang around and their crowd will help keep them in it.

Ruthless Melbourne. Let's show it eh?

Was this at Adelaide Oval?

Regardless, I’m sorry your son had to hear that. ☹️ If there is such a person she’s not part of the cheer squad, even if she was in our bay. Foul language is banned. Microphones in the goalposts mean that hefty fines can be issued by the AFL. Besides, she’d be told to cut it out immediately if she was a DA member.

I can see that the selections for the team this week have more than an eye on the North game 5 days later.

4 named in the team, Petty, Lever, May and Rivers I would imagine would play both games. Brayshaw and McVee are named in the team and I would imagine Hibberd will be on the bench for the match. I might be tempted to drop Bowey back to Casey for this weekend and bring him in for the North game. Possibly for either McVee or Hibberd. It would depend on injuries during the Richmond game and how the players recover.

In the midfield, If we go with Hibberd and Grundy as two of the bench I would like to see Two of Jordon, Sparrow and Dunstan named on the bench with the other one as the sub.

Forwards is where we are a bit thin on the ground for mine. TMac and JVR as talls with a resting ruck there some of the time. Fristch as a third tallish doing what he does and then the smalls in ANB and Pickett with a rotation through there of resting mids. Either that, or they bring in Laurie to fill out the smalls up forward but then they might be robbing the mid rotations. From what I saw of Laurie in his first game he did not do all that much in the midfield when given a run there. There seems to be a number of options to try in the Forward 50 and we may see a couple of these options come the North game. I hope so.

We do have a number of players that can play a number of different roles and I think that is a good thing. will keep the opposition coaches guessing a lot more than messing with the team sheet.

Will be interesting to see the final team once it is decided.

Dees to bounce back and win this one by 30pts.

Jaded makes a fair point.  In one of the training threads this week Viney was reported as being in the rehab group. She's probably noted that and with Dunstan being named, put two and two together and come up with a reasonable answer

Supporters seem to have short memories. McDonald kicked four goals and received coaches' votes just two games ago. If we were to drop players just because of a poor game last week, there are about a dozen others equally at risk.

He didn’t exactly keep the statisticians busy against the Dogs or Lions. Kicked a total of 1.1 across both games. So far his one standout match was against a depleted, flailing team. Of course I want him to do well, but I can understand where people’s doubt is coming from.

I think it's you with the short memory.

Already dropped once this season and has played one good game and three completely underwhelming games.

Would have to be up there with on of the most wildly inconsistent performers in the AFL at his age and games experience. If you can't see that or note the difference in expectation between he and a youngster player on our list then I'm not sure what to say.

People see what they want to see I guess.

TMc should be given some leeway for last week after Draper took a running leap from 10-15 mts away and kneed him in the back.

And if Brown isn't fit enough then we have little choice but to play TMc...I'm not sure Schache is the answer.  Just hope TMc's back has recovered and does not affect his mobility.

BTW, Draper is turning into a thug.  He was the ruckman that crunched Grundy's knee last year with a resultant PCL injury.

Have you actually seen the incident itself?

Nothing thuggish or sinister about it at all..

Its two genuine ruckman going up against it in the centre bounce and it so happens that their knee just clash and Brodie unfortunately comes off second best.

Draper actually has his eye on the ball the whole time. His technique is completely fine and it's no different to any other ruckman going around in the competition.

Yes, I have.

Eyes on the ball doesn't mean he doesn't know what he is doing.  Peripheral vision.  In the last few weeks two of Geelong's ruckman have been injured by counterparts kneeing them in the ribs while eyes were on the ball.

Last year Cox had his eyes on the ball when he kneed Max in the back causing him a season long term injury.  Cox didn't come close to marking the ball.

Disagree Red. If Max plays against Richmond, and gets through it ok, why wouldn't he play against norf ?

Because it is 5 days later and it is North?

Good clubs would do this to us back in the day and we deserved it. When we rested no one last year when we played WCE and NM and we’re obviously hampered I questioned it and then we lost the next three games and have been 9 and 10 since that NM game.

How is that being a glass half empty?

Viney was training away from the main group on Tuesday with a heavily bandaged knee, and the only time Dunstan has ever played for Melbourne was when Viney was injured. So I am simply putting 2+2 together.

He might just be named on the extended bench because they want to reward him for consistent form at Casey, but it seems odd he was named but Harmes wasn’t.

Just a thought.

Again, nothing absolutely sinister to what he's done to Grundy, nor have you explained what was actually done thats out of the ordinary.

Like I'm trying to see what he's done in this particular incident that's thuggish about it? Like all ruckman that need momentum to jump forward he's put his knee up exactly like Grundy has here. The knee clash in the PCL area is what got Grundy.

Compared to DeKoning and Meek who have literally stuck their knee out without even jumping to protect themselves and stop the opposition ruckman forward momentum, then yeah I think that's a pretty [censored] act and both should have both been suspended.

Draper's technique against Grundy is no different to how I've seen Gawn ruck a thousand times.

To my eye the Grundy incident was deliberate with intent to injure.  But lets agree to disagree on that.

imv Draper's run and jump on TMc was thuggish.   I didn't say 'sinister'.

It will be interesting to see how often his tactics result in injury.

I definitely agree with the tmac one.

If I remember correctly, wasn't this the reason why they brought in the centre circle in the mid 2000's because of the knee injury to Adam Goodes with the knee clash?

This was also the time that it Took away Jeff Whites greatest strength and that was his ability to run and jump over much taller ruckman back in the guy.

Could be wrong but. .

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
