Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The crowds thing is the clubs fault for allowing people in charge to drive it into the abyss. Which is ultimately why supporters dropped off. And our style of play as well is our personnel doesn't seem to bring the same excitement level as it does for Collingwood for example.

I completely understand why our supporters don't always want to rock up to a game sometimes. Not sure it harsh. Just true.

Brayshaw anywhere other than inside mid, Gawn forward, I think one of Salem or Bowey need to be moved to a flank for us to connect better. Smith forward is an issue.

We just don't get creative enough with tinkering, player addition or attribute diversity across the field.

I’m not sure there’s much point dwelling on the mistakes of 1965-2014 costing us thousands of fans. And whilst it would be better if we were more attractive to watch I don’t think it’s impacting crowds. We’re still better to watch than about a dozen teams.

I don’t particularly agree with those examples. Gawn’s forward because we desperately needed a second ruck good enough to carry the load when he was injured and there weren’t a lot of choices. It was Grundy, Lloyd Meek or bust.

Brayshaw’s had a run of midfield games now and he’s just meh as a midfielder. Despite his flaws often standing out early in games when the pace is hot I think he’s actually best on a wing or half back.

Agree on the need to mix more skills through the forward flanks and on ball. Salem’s so important behind the ball and not sure we want to mess with Bowey who’s still a young player, every chance he’s no improvement on Spargo as a half forward.

Petty forward and Smith forward have been tinkers well worth trying and have worked about as well as anything else we’ve got.

They need to roll the dice on guys like Henry and changing up the list. But in fairness to the list management team that only thing I heard last year were we exhausted every option of finding a key forward and rumours of a desire to try our home grown younger players and bank cash and picks.

The plan all along might’ve been keeping our powder dry for a year to pay down the debt owed on some ageing talls and rebalance the list this year. Aside from recruits just from natural improvement I hope Howes, Woey and perhaps Laurie are playing regular games next year which can help.

It didn't seem to concern Freo in the Jackson trade...

He's out of contract which is a plus...so we offer what we consider right. Probably a 2nd rounder.

Maybe they push him to the preseason draft but I would doubt they do that.

2nd rounders might be required for PK1 if not then yeah sure it’s still a chance

Not sure this guy is up to it. No real x factor. Mid sized, mid paced, OK kick.

And do we want another winger?

In their best the last last 5-6 games and 21 possessions to half time against Dogs today. Think we could squeeze him in.

Starting to play like his draft position suggests and more like his underage form this past month. He’s a handy outside running type delivering inside 50. We could definitely use him between the arcs, though he’s pushing up his trade price now ☹️

You think the style of football they play is better than our style?

Their style leaves them incredibly vulnerable to the dice

I think what you’re overlooking AF is Collingwood success is built on defence (they have lowest against in the comp) and outstanding pressure. That strikes me as the perfect combination for winning finals.
Added to that is they play with freedom whereas we often play scared.
They are the flag favourites for good reason but like anyone they can be beaten.

I reckon their game is built on outnumber and overlap run. Attack is their defence. Whereas, we're the opposite. Our defence turns into our attack.

They're flag favourites for their consistency IMV, but their game style, again MO, is susceptible in finals, because of the high risk style and last year showed that.

He’s OOC so not really. If he wants to go Freo can’t do much.

He had a lot of the footy but wasn’t exactly setting the house on fire. He’s a 2nd rounder at best. If Freo ask for a first rounder they are going to get a rude shock.

He is playing as a winger and if he came into our side would need to dislodge one of Hunter or Langdon. Unlikely IMO.

Could he potentially play a high half forward role? Can’t see him doing ANBs role, so it’s either Kozzy , Spargo or Chandler . Again I’m not seeing the upside.

They were saying in the Age he's playing wing. I thought it was half back? If it's wing, he'd be great.

Played mostly half back though pushed to the wing last week. Pinched coaches votes a few weeks ago playing half back. Seems to be his best role as a rebounding type.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
