Give Van Rooyen a game

First time defending the crown on our home deck in a final and it was a big let down.

Ouch.

(Maybe) Out - Melks. Argument for Brown. In - TMac.

(Probably Should) Out - Salem. In - Bowey.

Again, ouch.

I feel sorry for the Victorian fans who had to wait 12 months to experience that rubbish

ANB & Melk, good luck in your future endeavours!

Steven May - Nostradamus!

Outcoached, outsmarted and outplayed.

Down 20 half way through the last qtr, Melksham misses an easy set shot, Trac misses a runner and ANB and Spargo blow and open goal. Just couldn’t get back in it. Disappointing overall result but there is still hope.

Beaten without much of whimper on our home deck, not impossible to defend it from here but our weakness just showed themselves again tonight.

We need an actual 2nd Ruckman. Sending Gawn forward and leaving Jackson as no 1. for long spells was a disaster + Brown forward rucking? what a joke that was.

We need a more agile key forward to replace Brown, if he can't play a full season then is that pedestrian in a qualifying final after a mini preseason mid season then we got problems.

Finally we need to move Spargo back as a small forward. The ease the ball exits our forward 50 is no surprise when it's Brown, Gawn and Melksham chasing + Spargo is not suited to a wing.

We need to be at our best to beat Swans and Geelong

Far short of that tonight. Too many players with bad nights and worryingly a few injury concerns too.

But we need to move on quickly and prepare for Brisbane

Melksham had the opportunity to kick 3 really crucial goals. Really really hurt that he didn't kick any.

But, others also missed opportunities. Suspect however that costs his spot.

They brought their pressure, we brought ours.  Theirs was better tonight.

ANB was horrible, Melksham would have lost his spot, LJ was shocking.

Well played Sydney! They were great and deserved the win in the end. Just couldn't get our game going largely due to Sydney. Disappointed...

I thought that was our worst game of the year.

Sydney kicked 12 goals from turnovers.

Teams our beating us playing our own style.

Not the end of the world but I really do feel like we have an MCG problem. We just don’t play well there.

You have to acknowledge Sydney pressure and desperation and positioning around packs was huge.

But 3 goals from 50's in a final and missing sitters and stuffing up a certain goal, I can say 3 are directly linked to Melk's.

We didn't play with any run or speed across the ground, whether that was deliberate or Sydney structure I couldn't tell on tv.

Many players had their worst game of the year.  Trac after his knock didn't look right and we fumbled too often

We have 1 week to regroup but luckily got lions at the G ready to face Pies/Cats in the prelim.

We're taking the long road this year, but there's no travel.

Not our night. Better team won. Swans were excellent. Tough and clean

we regroup and go again next week

We can still do this

go dees

Comprehensively beaten.

We should beat the Lions, but I can almost see it playing it out that we exit the finals without a whimper. They'll be looking for revenge and will probably, you'd think, try something different against us. Learn from mistakes etc.

Even if we get past them, we haven't beaten a top 4 team this year, can't see how we get up. We need to plan for 2023.

Boring zero risk for zero reward footy for most of the night. If Brisbane are our biatches we are well and truly Sydney's

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
