Robbie.

Would love to see him hold up the cup.

There'd be 'better' players, but geez, imagine a forward line mix featuring Brown, TMac, Kozzy, Fritsch and Jurrah..

Ooft.

Robbie Flower would dominate on a wing in today's game.  He is literally built for today's style of footy.  Imagine him and Langers on each wing, then Gus slotting inside the guts.  Mouth watering.

David Shwartz (circa last half of 1994 season, before the knee injuries)

Although he tarnished his reputation with meddling in  our administration: G Lyon

(I assume it should really be limited to living people )

Nathan Jones. Very good player who soldiered on valiantly during some very very lean years. Such a pity he couldn't make the grand final team

Can't have won a premiership? Well bugger. Guess I can't choose Chris Dawes.

Shannon Byrnes also also hard done by with this criteria

Flower.

Schwarta in his prime was ahead of Carey at his best imo, but I’d still go for Robbie ……. true ‘poetry in motion’.

Typo

I'd go with Jurrah as well. We only had a glimpse of what he was capable of.

Well well, here's a first!!  I'm actually going to agree with Nev.

To see the wasted talent of Jurrah in our current team would fill the "G!

Liam Jurrah. Some of the most fun I've ever had watching football.

Certainly was an entertainment machine as was Jakovic.

....but in the end it would be Robbie for me. Imagine him on one wing and the running machine Langdon on the other.

Would be the goat of midfield groups..

But for that rotten little bloke on TV on Saturdays   D ickie Knees.

Cannot choose  the Ox or Tulip

Beeeeeeennnneeeeeeeeeett.

But seriously . . .

Carl at his peak was not far off being as good as Gawn, Greg Wells would be a super-duppa star in today's game, and as others have said, Tullip, Shwarrrrtaaaaa and Liam.

Flower would slot in nicely on the opposite wing to Langdon. We’ve had some great ‘flashy’ players pop up here and there but longevity and consistency is key.

Agree with the calls for the Ox and Robbie.

im going to add Stephen Tingay. I had a massive man crush on him.

Played in a premiership with Carlton, alas.

Like many others who have already posted, I couldn't go past R. Flower as my choice.

Apart from the obvious - Tulip, I think Gary Lyon often gets forgotten. He was supremely talented and a big game player. Yze was also a personal favourite.

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

  • GAMEDAY: Essendon

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
