Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Awful news. One of the true excitement machines of the AFL when he's up and running, wish him all the best.

100%.  A huge loss to the game.

Bugger..

He was fun to watch. Really hope he's not lost to the game and we see him in some working capacity mentoring young indigenous footballers if that's the path he wants to choose.

Are you thinking there might be a bigger story? If I were an Essendon supporter, I'd want to know why McKenna, Daniher, Saad, Fantasia and now Walla all wanted to leave in a relatively short period of time. Each may have had a personal reason for leaving, but losing 5 players like that in a short period of time might also hint at a bigger problem.

I hope Walla lands in a happy place for the rest of his life.

My first thought was so that Ess leaned on him to get a MSD pick but this from the AFL article dispels that:  "The timing of the decision wasn’t related to the Bombers opening up a mid-season draft pick, with Nik Cox’s foot injury already set to allow that to happen".  (Altho the latest AFL injury report has Cox listed as TBC rather than season ending).

He has been a shining light for the game and how it should be played and a great ambassador for his culture and hopefully for the AFL at some stage.

Yes there is a bigger story. He was playing VFL, but has stepped away.
So it wasn’t injury…

I hope he is ok going forward

One of my favourite non Melbourne players, was never afraid to take the game on and entertain. If he didnt play for Essendon I would like him more.

What about the reverse? Could he now be picked by another team in the MSD?

Culture is everything. Good cultures can help those players going through tough times - think Dusty @ Tigers as a recent example.

It is not really surprising to see Walla depart the sinking ship of the Bombers. Some might see this as a sign of weakness, but if he is going through some tough times, then this is the last place he needs to be.

Hopefully he finds some balance and happiness outside of footy.

It's a big loss to the game.
I liked watching him play, which is unprecedented for and Essendon player.

The type of person able to endure the demands of professional football is becoming more and more homogenised.
Hope he enjoys the next stage of his life!

Because they have shown they care more about winning than player welfare.  You can add Ryder in there as well.

They put aside the health of players to try to get an edge. This might have been forgivable one day, however they have never taken accountability or shown remorse so nothing has changed

The club has shown now faith or care for  the players and now want the players to put their body on the line for the club?

A super talent.

Hopefully not permanently lost to the game.

I enjoyed watching him from day one.  Hope he manages to sort things out and maybe make a return at some point.  Maybe for us!!

personal reason for leaving

I'm quite happy for players privacy to be respected.

If they wanted everyone to known the details, I'm sure they would have put it out there and perhaps in the fullness of time, he will.  Unless Tippa does choose to tell his story, then I don't think it's right to be speculating.

As a matter of interest, which other players have had songs written about them? (Excluding Greg Champion/Coodabeen Champions songs).

Picket Palace have one on Richo.  They also have one on Aaron Hamill, but it seems to be more of an instrumental track, so I'm not sure that counts.

Of course there was also Mark Jackson's "I'm an Individual", but that was written and sung by himself, so I'm not sure that counts either.

Glad to see Tipungwuti is comming out of retirement to play for Essendon again.

It's a win - win I recon.

Footy lovers get to see a freakish talent in action again and at the same time, he'll probably help get Essendon's competitiveness up there for a few years to help them avoid getting better draft picks.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
