Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

This season averaged 25 touches, five tackles and picked up 11 Brownlow votes in half a season.

It's bizarre. why are St Kilda giving him the flick? Their recruiting has been pretty ordinary so i reckon it's incompetence on their part

We know Viney won;t play a full season. Dunstan is perfect cover and with Chocco's help I'm sure his disposal will improve. It's a no brainer

To those questioning Dunstan's recruitment. If any of our midfielders from the GF were injured next week, who would you bring in from the list to replace them now that Chuck and AvB are gone?? There is not one true mid amongst the remaining 16 or so players on our list.

It's a no brainer for mine.

This has surprised me. I thought he wanted more game time. Good get as he is a quality VFL player. Hopefully he doesn't get games ahead of Sparrow and Jordon.

I’m sorry what? Is that because we are rebuilding and we have to get games into the kids??

FCS - the window is open and if Sparrow and Jordon get a game it will be because THEY deserve it.

I am greedy - I want to win more.

A no brainer having lost two big bodied experienced mids.
You need to have ready made replacements for the inevitable injuries. And I don’t think Harmes, Sparrow or JJ are locks in our midfield anyway. The latter will likely suffer form drop at some point given their age and lack of experience.

Good management from the club to bring him in as others have said perfect insurance. For Dunstan though I guess he is hoping for an injury and playing in finals

No reason he can't work on his game to go to another level and solidify a spot.

JJ was sub and Harmes and Sparrow are playing half forward.

I’d have targeted a half forward where there’s more opportunities to hold down a spot.

Then I’d look for midfield reinforcement but with more upside and versatility.

Neither Jones nor Vanders were centre square options for us this year.

Is Dunstan actually going to skip the queue or will he just end up frustrated at Casey?

He will be a great addition.   I think now we have won a premiership many are over-rating our current list and the fact that we had vitually zero injuries to best 22 players.

Harmes, Sparrow, Spargo, ANB, Brayshaw, JJ, Tomlinson, Petty all got hammered on this site at various stages.

This is a guy who would push Harmes, Sparrow and JJ for a spot round 1 and will add some oomph.

An injury to Oliver, Petracca or Viney and our depth would be tested with no VDB/Jones.

Would be a great pick up....would play many Senior games for us.

To those saying they don't want him replacing a Sparrow/Harmes / JJ.....I Get it....But ultimately they can still develop at Casey and form will dictate where they play.   To have strong list we need pressure on all positions of the ground.

Hopefully we have a lot of hungry players next year that are wanting more success!

This!! I think it’s a pretty easy sell from the club to get him here.  Lots of our players have spoken about how much Chocco has improved their kicking which sounds like it’s his biggest flaw.
Coming to a new clubs who’s current culture and player development is the gold standard can only improve his game.
Given how well he polled in the Brownlow it’s not like he doesn’t have enough quality to start with.
We could also be looking at giving Sparrow or JJ a bit of a different role next year to help their development.
Consisting we have lost Jones and Vanders and he is costing fa I’m only seeing positives.

Vanderberg and Jones were in the best 23 12 times during the season so if Dunstan does play that many he will push Harmes, Jordan and Sparrow to even better performances than 2021.

For that alone he is worth a spot and has the experience to bring Taj and Bailey along the road to the AFL rather than Casey.

I love this. Dunstan has been underrated by the football world. He is a tough and durable player who will add depth to our midfield. While his kicking is poor, the Dees game plan is designed to limit the damage from turnovers and also simplifies the decision making process. (Not one of our current premiership midfielders is great by foot.)

Fair play, the poster is entitled to their opinion.

By the by, this year Dunstan was ranked:

14th - Inside 50's per game (Oliver was 12th)

11th - Stoppage clearances per game

13th in turnovers per game (funnily Petracca was ranked 3 for this)

Thanks for clarifying that my opinion is my opinion. I was getting confused.

I’ve got no issue being told to shut it when I question Jason Taylor’s draft picks, although I think I’ve been fairly supportive. The same for players we’ve let go, and for our big name recruits outside of Ben Brown who I really did think was broken and not a worthwhile upgrade on Weid.

Dunstan’s a player we’ve all seen plenty of and I don’t think anyone is questioning he’s one dimensional. He’s coverage for our big 3 mids which is useful, but I’m of the opinion our next 3 mids (Harmes, Sparrow, JJ) could provide that same coverage.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
