Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

I just listened to this, Mick Malthouse was on their and asked Yze “it felt like Geelong controlled three quarters, until Melbourne found something in the last”. I understand I have rose coloured glasses on Mick, but apart from the second quarter blitz, we won every quarter mate, please give up the media gig and go back to Carlton as head coach please…

I normally don't post but after the Brisbane Vs Western Bulldogs game, I sincerely hope we do not get the umpiring crew for that game against Geelong next week.  I will keep it civil, as the umpires have an impossible job and we cannot play without them, but some of the free kicks against Brisbane, especially in the 4th quarter were questionable, at best!  Did anyone else see it that way or am I alone?

You're not alone. The umpiring is being discussed on the Finals week 2 non-mfc thread.

Geelong are likely to go with the extra tall in Ratugolea, but that isn't necessarily that bad for us. That will encourage them to kick it long and high to make marking contests, which is the sort of ball movement we love to defend.

The height of their forward line might mean Smith holds his spot, and could mean Hibberd replaces Bowey for positional flexibility - both he and Smith have the ability to stand players like Rohan but to run off them.

Chris Scott is loved by the media, so it will be a Geelong fest all week.  Their finals experience compared to ours is huge but Goody  with ooze and Choco should have us quietly primed.  If it’s a close one we need to be wary of letting the umps screw us over.

Tommy Mac surely must be due for a big one.  Hibberd for Smith otherwise leave the side unchanged.

Best of luck to the whole club.  Get it done boys.

Tmac is due. Hibbo might come in for his experience and foot skills.

I don't know what kind of crazy intel you have but what makes you think they are going to go tall and do the precise thing that we excel at? You're off your rocker if you think that.

Cameron and Hawkins, probably in that order, worry me the most. But if we play the game our way, then we're playing a forward half game and those two don't see a lot of it.

As always, will be won in the midfield. Accuracy will also be a huge factor. Can we apply enough post clearance pressure and can we take our chances forward of centre? Do both of those and we win IMV.

Exactly. Win the midfield, play the game in our half and set up defensively behind the ball. If we have trouble in the middle our defenders will be isolated and more likely to either lose a one on one contest (less likely) or get done on the ground (more likely).

I'm confident we'll be too good and have a regulation 20-30 point win.

I’m usually happy with just a W but what I truly desire in this one is for us to give them a hiding they will never forget.

If anyone is due for a jolly good thrashing it’s Duckwood and co.

We’re very capable of doing it.

If we can kick straight. We've had a few teams lined up for heavy defeats, and our goal kicking has usually cost us from doing it. Luckily, we've still had pretty comfortable wins along the way regardless.

Hmmmm....1 goal a minute for the opposition team is a worst case scenario.

So what you're telling me @Dr. Gonzo is that I won't be able to relax for the first 3 quarters and 26 minutes of the match?

I can't really imagine a way that our pressure won't be immense, so with that in mind, it's quite hard to see a way the Cats can really get the game on their terms. so i think they'll be wanting to keep the game as close as possible

Has anyone in WA heard of Geelong?  Unlikely.  A backwater to them.

We will have the neutral crowd cheering for us as well as our own fans.

Lets hope it helps the umpires make good decisions.

Big ask to beat a quality team like Geelong 3 times in a year but I don't think this group will be phased by that.

On the contrary.

Its a big ask for the oldest team in the comp to beat the youngest, hungriest and most AA team, away from home when they couldn't do it at home only 3 weeks ago after Dees giving them a 7 goal start.

And barely performing against a banged up star-less, heroic and no forward structure GWS 2 days ago

And having won only 1 game in the month of August , and that by barely 2 goals against the 10th placed saints.

Does this help?  because its reality for the cats where I stand.

I think our big advantage on reflection is going to be the open spaces of Optus, Geelong do seem a little bit banged up, and have had to come the hard way with an older list. if we can make the ground as big as possible and guys like Langdon, ANB and co make them chase us all day they may really struggle.

they'll probably need us to be a little bit off in order to win

I reckon the 18 prelim will fuel the boys in a big way, i reckon not only do we win, but i think in the first quarter we make a big statement and grab a decent lead

Only half this current best 22 played in that game in 2018.

Do you think Bowey, Rivers, Langdon, May, Lever,Fritsch,  Jackson, Jordan, Sparrow, Brwon, Pickett, Petty, will care.

These guys will write their own history on Friday and beyond.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
