Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

GAMEDAY: Rd 16 vs GWS

On the podcast, Binman (or was it George?) recommended Steven May to mindToby Green.

So who takes Himmelberg and Finlayson?
I think it should be Michael Hibberd on Green, leaving May, Lever and Petty to cover their tall forwards.

Should Harmes chase Whitfield?
Interesting that they dropped de Boer, who did ok on Clarrie last time. Do they have another tagged.

I am expecting a quick, out of the block start. It has been something we have not done well for a while.

We cannot give them a sniff, as confidence and a run on will give GWS a chance to take the lollies.

Can they play the MCG? My guess is they learnt a lot from the loss last week there. They will be better for the run even with their disruptive build up.

We have to hit them early. Hoping for accuracy and efficiency.

We are bringing effort and fight to our matches, and have a smart approach when we don't have the ball.

Hoping for some beautiful ball movement and connection with our forwards.

Really feel it is time for a dominant performance. I want to us gel and play some outstanding footy. Make a statement about our skill, fitness, fight, and cohesion to the oppositions. Show them they will need luck, hardness and work, to even get close.

Put the fear into them all.

Go Dees.

May was on Toby Greene at stages in round 3 and had goals kicked on him in the last quarter after Greene gave Jetta a bath.

Finlayson needs attention. He’s an absolute dead eye around goals.

I think they’ll really make us earn the win today and I hope we don’t them lightly. They’re a highly talented midfield on paper.

We have to kick straight with goals, the earllier, the better - and maintain such a performance. Tags must abound.

He will be better this week so our mids should come out on top.

Heres hoping for a fast start for once and some accurate kicking.

I shall be leaving the warm embrace of The Manor for only my second live game this year.

And ........ I fully expect to see a comfortable victory. We shall have clear winners on every line and , the middle of the road Dwarfs, simply will not have the answers.

No trains from Scumbury today so I shall give the Merc an airing. The Maid shall be left  in charge (temporarily of course ) to oversee the victory celebrations.

Dees by 26.

It was me jjc.

You might be right and hibbo might get the job on greene. He has been good against players like Martin and papley.

I just think greene almost plays as a big, and out of the square too. And May is strong enough and he is best close to goal, rather up too high.

Petty can take Himmelberg.

And even though finlayson is tall, he plays almost as a high half forward (like tmac) and I reckon hibbo can take him with Lever coming across for support.

Morning all. With a forecast more hebridean than antipodean today I'll be looking for a spot near the fireplace at Dr Morse in Abbotsford for my eggs benny. Maybe a cheeky pint at Range Brewing next door before the short commute to the 'G.

As for the game I'm expecting a really close one so we'll need to be switched on from the get go. Enjoy your day everyone.

Hibberd has returned this year in the finest of form and is just as important part of our defence as May and Lever.

Actually they are all excellent. Best defence around.Hunt was back in form last week too.

Rivers has been a revelation and Salem back to his career best.

My favourite non Dees player is Toby Greene. A mongrel, rat cunning, Rolls Royce player. The perfect blend of steel and silk. If we can contain him we go a long way to winning the game. May to get the job for mine.

Our defence was back to its domineering best last week. I expect a similar strangulation today.

GWS are the type of opponent we have struggled against. We need to be switched on for this.

Hoping to see Viney crack in and inflict some pain.

If we kick straight, a 5-6 goal win. If we don’t, another nervous 10 point win

Both teams are talented, but with the exception of Toby Green, they are mentally fragile when the heat is turned up. Our toughness around the contest, will to win, commitment to team defence and superior fitness will see us across the line by 4 to 5 goals, after a ‘slog feast’ for the first three quarters.  Another one of those games where we seem to hold the upper hand for most of the day, but don’t break away until the last quarter.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
