Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Yep, this particular doc is only good for fake medical certificates. The only problem with ‘ignore’ is when someone quotes them often wsw.

In the latter stages of 2018 this particular poster said in a game-day thread he would be going to the game and would not be happy even if we won that day. That says enough really.

Wow, look at everyone get so defensive just because I have us going 4/4 with losses against very good teams. Just shows that you lot are equally as impartial in your own analysis. When we played Geelong for example, they had a lot of good players out.

You keep saying that we'll lose to Port Adelaide, West Coast, the bulldogs and Geelong but our record this season shows that we have been much more convincing against top 8 sides than we have been against mid-range and bottom teams. It shouldn't come as a surprise if we manage to beat three of the four teams mentioned above, if not all of them.

Does your analysis take in to consideration where we play these sides?

For instance, if we play West Coast in Melbourne, everyone knows how poorly they play away from home, or if we play them over there with no crowd.

We may also play Port Adelaide at a venue in Victoria, that certainly won't help them.

Then if, God forbid, our form improves to your acceptable standards, we may just beat one of the other teams that stand in our way.

The Hawks may upset Port over here on the weekend, or the wonder kids, Essendon may beat the Cats on Friday night.

The Tigers may beat the Cats in a few weeks.

There are many possibilities, especially now we have a Victorian Hub, we have no idea how long this will last but is certainly throws a few spanners in the works.

But keep at it, keep finding ways to show how Melbourne has no hope of finishing in the top 4.

I'm a bit bored today so I will engage with this a little longer...

You are attempting to present as fact, or self evident and obvious, a poorly formed opinion based on absolutely nothing except perhaps your own pessimism. I would characterise the responses you are seeing here as not so much people being defensive, as calling bull$#it on your statements. There is considerably more evidence to support us making the top 4 than there is that we will get knocked down to 5th.

To support your negative statement you provide the startling piece of evidence that you typed your opinions into the ladder predictor and got back the expected answer. You then jump into those of us who disagree by accusing us of not being impartial.

How is it based on nothing? Since the start of the year we've lost to Adelaide and Collingwood.  We play Geelong who were missing Rohan, Cameron and Dangerfield. I believe we have dropped off in form and believe the dogs have lifted so I don't think it's crazy to say that I put us down for a loss to the dogs. I assume we play WCE at Optus, which is an incredibly tough road trip. That's a likely loss. And lastly Port Adelaide who have beaten us the last 3 times. I also might add the last time we played at AO we had one of our worst losses for the year. So fair to assume that's a loss.  And I'm giving us wins in the other 4 games.

Just because you don't like the information, doesn't make it negative. Finishing 5th is still a good finish considering where we're coming from last year.

Also, it doesn't bother me what other evidence says. I know more about the dees than most supporters. When we made the Prelim in 2018, everyone was talking about us making top 4 and all of that jazz because the 'evidence' suggested that natural improvement would get us there. And where did we come? 16th. So at the time I would've got shot down for saying 'lets not get ahead of ourselves' but I turned out to be correct.  If you haven't noticed the MFC has let us down year in, year out for most of my lifetime. If we win a final, then I put it down as a successful season. All this talk, about flags etc. is way too premature.

Is that similar to your predictions that Goodwin will be sacked by round 8 and Essendon will beat us by 37 points?

One of the things that i have noticed this year is other teams' body language.

By that i mean that there is a reasonably visible spectacle of some fairly decent teams who we have played and beaten that actually are looking beaten, tired and frustrated before the end of, in some cases, the third quarter.

Now, i will not name these teams because i don't want to give anything away, but i think it has something to do with things like

not the same level of fitness, and not being able to make inroads into our backline, when hellbent on playing their own game plan unsuccessfully.

The other reason is noticeable discontentment in the other teams ranks during play, which i really like to see...

Going with the OP, Peter Sumich doesn’t even think Melbourne will finish top 4!

I can definitely understand why people think doggies will finish on top, but surely not rating us a likely top 4 spot is pushing it. (Touch wood)

A lot of his prediction would be based on the assumption Port rolls us next week. I'm confident we can beat them (we have a bad record at AO against them but were unlucky/shot ourselves in the foot a couple of times) plus it is looking like the game could be played in Melbourne with any luck.

In keeping with the underrated theme of this thread, Gerard Whateley on AFL 360 was effusive when talking about Brisbane"s Deven Robertson, who was this weeks Rising Star nomination. Whateley said; "Robertson had 20 pressure acts, incredible, 20!"

Ben Gibson interviewing Jack Viney after the game.

Gibo says; "Jack you had 34 pressure acts during the game". Jack; "is that a lot?"

12 and 2 after 14 games and 5 - 0 vs top 8. The mix in the maiming games is 4 vs top 8 and 3 of them away, if we play the remaining games equal to our season so far we should go end up 6-2 or 7-1 and clear top of the table. Given teams below us have won those games I see no reason to think we don’t beat port and wc away and dogs at g. Cats in Geelong would be the only game I don’t think we are a 50/50 or better chance in.

If our team was called Richmond and had our record so far we would expect them not to drop and game and win the grand final in a canter.

it forms part of an analysis. And more of what most posters here have done. Other than having completely biased views where they talk about being flag contenders etc. I've already given my analysis, you may want to read above before posting.

Way to use things completely out of context. You should be a journalist. I was referring to not wanting to win because I believed that ultimate success would come sooner if Goodwin was gone and limping into finals would've glossed over the hard coaching review that was needed. Thankfully Goodwin has improved some of his work but I put a lot of it down to Williams and Yze.

Unfortunately I have read your above posts. Incorrect, it forms a platform for you to put in your opinion and get a result that suits it.

Was talking to some pals the other week about the Dees and where we could finish, they thought I was silly for saying we'd finish 4th and that'd be a failure after being on top etc.

The chasing pack is on our heels, 5th place is only 2 wins behind us and we have to play some tough opponents.  The top 5 will be extremely close this year IMO.

I don't see this as Melbourne fan negativity, just lots of contenders this year.

And if we were struggling, I suspect you would you say it was Goodwin's fault.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
