Have not seen the game DR. And through drug haze forgot to put on the recorder. As I said yesterday 50 years of disappointment does not disappear after 11 games.  I am just happy we keep winning.

I would love to have a helicopter view of the game.

So many times the dogs struggled to move the ball from their defence.

They would transition to the other side only to be stuck and hesitant again.

Our blokes are super fit and must be covering a lot of ground to keep blocking teams like that.

You just dont get the perspective on tv.

Did not see one second of the game.

Looking forward to watching the replay with the benefit of post game comments from the half full / half empty 'Landers.

I'm starting to think we may be the real deal finally. About to renew the wifes membership so we can get access to (unmentionable) tickets should we remain in this form through September.

Talking with workmates without the embarrassment of following a losing team. Sensational.

Go Dees.

I don’t think Langdon being subbed out was for [censored] and giggles, the doctor has to believe the player has an injury that will rule him out for the next 12 days, if the player recovers before that he can play, but only “IF” the AFL sign off on the player playing. The doctor also has to write a medical certificate for the player by the next working day and submit it to the AFL. A stupid risk to take for [censored] and giggles. ??‍♂️

I wish it was for sh**s n giggles. ?

The dogs are a very good side and will no doubt be thereabouts at the pointy end of the season but last night they almost had to squeeze their way through the few gaps they could find in order to hit the scoreboard. I thought they did well to get 59 points.

I know the 12 day concussion protocol is there for a reason but I don't understand why they wouldn't just have Lingers sit out the last minute on the bench instead of triggering the sub, just to see how the week plays out for him symptom wise.

I think that it will be Sauce that is likely to come in to replace Lingers as like Harry Petty it's the role he's been trained to play for all preseason. Big shoes to fill mind you but it would be nice if it ends up providing the same embarrassment of riches on the wing that we have with our big forwards.

I’ve never felt this feeling before, where you beat the top team and still feel like you can improve.

This is an important point. We are playing well, well enough to beat the (other) best sides. But we haven’t peaked and this is crucial.
We have another gear to go and this year we seem to lift when required (last week aside). I’m excited to see where this side can go. Maybe it’s all the way. Maybe not this year but definitely in the next few years.

If he has concussion he should not play it is that simple. Cannot see where the medicos have done anything wrong.

He seemed to berate himself early.

But even early he competed hard and caused spillages. I thought he had a good game.

He definitely impacted a ton of contests and got first hands on the ball plenty of times. Just needed to stick more of those marks. Those two goals he kicked though were so important in the context of the game.

Definitely keeps his spot IMO.

Of course he shouldn't OD but the 12 day protocol is an arbitrary number introduced this season and there is no way he could have been assessed properly in the 80 seconds that were left in the game.

After 10 wins and one loss I sit here in the glow of the win and the weekends games to go on with us sitting a top the ladder.

However I have this nagging feeling the season of AFL football could once again go to hell in a hand basket with no more games in Melbourne.  I fear I will not see a game live in what is our best season in 20+ years.

The up side is it is only football, there are lots of way more important things happening.

Great result. Reminded me of the Geelong game where we basically made them pick their way through a mine field and choked their high powered forward line. We were so clinically efficient that it looked somewhat boring. No bells and whistles but fantastic team synergy. Really hard to pick the best players. Good to see Spargo get more of the ball, something good nearly always happens.

To activate the medical sub for concussion they would have had to do a 20 minute assessment. Ed was clearly concussed and the decision to activate the sub with 90 seconds to go was irrelevant to next week’s outcome for Langdon.

Just ben watching some footage and highlights, and want to give a BIG shout out to Petty. Apart from his very capable beating of his opponent each week, that mark he took shows an increase in confidence. He gets to contests, and is steady with ball in hand. I haven't noticed him too much over the past few weeks but I made a point of watching him and I really like what he brings.

And although Melksham has been on shaky ground for most of this year, I thought his workrate, effort and footskills were very good. That howler of walking the ball over the boundary line was a brain fade, but he was effective in his role last night.

I disagree Jaded, we could argue that the medical sub was precautionary as insufficient time remained for a thorough examination. Subsequently after the match it could have been determined that Langdon was dazed not concussed. So he could play next week.

Max also gets smashed by opposition teams.  Blocked, held and scragged at every contest, without any protection from the maggots.  Once last night he got the first touch in a marking contest, his opponent simply grabbed him on both shoulders from behind and dumped him backwards.  No free.

max is superb, and I love the big fella

Max gets zero protection from the umpires, and gets targeted every week by opposition.
His impact is huge, covers a lot of ground, he is just super Max!!

Can we talk about Petty for a second? Real impressive, all he needed was a decent run for it to come together and I think that was his most complete performance to date. Good job mate, tracking beautifully.

Obviously I am not completey objective when it comes to this issue, but it is out of control how much opposition teams get away with in terms of smashing him and using illegal tactics such as the one you note.

And Max shows incredible equanimity. Has obvbiously decided there is no point going off. He'd be doing it all game.

The blocking is out of control. Could not believe the free they gave against tmac in a marking contest with weed on the wing. Tmac was completely non plussed as he was in the contest. Might have even touched it.

If that was the bar applied to the marking contests Max competes in, or more accurately unable to compete in, he would get a dozen frees a game.

Same goes for hits to the head.

Or as bonehead ex footballers in the commentary box approvingly call it- making him earn it.

Makes be crazy.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
