We already have Pickett , Spargo , Bedford - not convinced we needed another two players of that size. Hope I'm wrong but really question the strategy of trading out of next years 1st round at this stage

I'm no expert but he would be easily the least likely out of the 3 to make it

I just said it was an interesting kicking action, not that he cant kick.

I love this pick for us.  His upside is huge and looks a real excitement machine.  Chocco Williams will be on the case!

It will be difficult to keep Williams away from Rosman - such is his (R's) potential upside and existing skills set. His development mentors must be hovering, already. Considering the Ooze is going to be able to stick his beak in as well, signs are such that we are going to have a really excellent utility and interceptor capable at both halves of the footy field. A great pick-up.

Fascinated to hear why they didn’t like Carroll - many had him going to us with our first

Yes I would like an "in depth" report on why certain players were or were not taken or whatever.

Knowing nothing, but expecting perhaps that Carroll might be chosen, if available.  But he is in melbourne so will help to keep Jackson and Rivers less homesick perhaps.

But I trust the  team that decides the picks,  They did wonderfully well last year, again I picked others, but Jackson, Pickett and Rivers seem destined for many games. So  Bowey, Laurie  were talked about as possibilities and Rosman as a rough diamond destined elsewhere.  Reading MFC , JT was targeting certain types or abilities  and he is happy, So I should relax.

I might have thought we might get someone to get into the side Round 1, but looks like we will be using the same main playing list.

It also seems that "they" are comfortable having TMac playing somewhere, relax, get over 2020, look to 2021   Go Dees

Not saying I'm an expert either but

Laurie is not quick, lacks size and looks like a poor mans Charlie Spargo to me - please explain what he brings that Charlie doesn't

Bowey looks like he has decent skills but is seriously undersized and just don't see him physically being up to AFL

Rosman can at least compete in the air, looks like he run at speed and can take a mark

Time will tell and you may be right - personally I hope you are otherwise we have just thrown away our first two picks and next years 1st rounder

Spoke extremely well at the Members' info night.  He's mature for his age and quite clearly articulate and intelligent.  I was also impressed with the story that he worked incredibly hard on his fitness this year during Covid.  If he can make it in football terms he will be a great asset to the club.

Could well be a fan favourite!

The idea of Rosman as a player is so interesting because he's big, extremely athletic but so raw. I think the comment by @Fat Tony is really telling because the scope of what he can be is much greater than most. However he does have a lot of different pathways to making it as an AFL player, especially given that he seems quite switched on. He may start being tried as a wingman, or forward, or as an intercepting defender .... or if none of that works out, as a hard running defensive tall. There are a lot of possibilities for a 6'5 running machine to make it as a footballer, regardless of the development of more conventional football skills (like kicking etc). He may become a great footballer, like premiership player Adam Goodes, or a fringe footballer, like premiership player Lewis Roberts-Thompson. Obviously Goodes is an all time HOF great and LRT was an honest toiler, the point is that they can both be part of premiership teams.

It would be great to get vision of his practice game at the start of the year where he reportedly dominated. We saw the goals from it, which were all wingman/flanker style goals streaming past the play, but I'd love to see how he played aside from that.

Yeah, man, I took one look at him and the potential just smacked me in the face. In addition to the body, he's got presence.

And you have seen them play how many times or you just looking at their Bio's and limited footage that the club/AFL has put up.

Why don't we wait and see how these guys go after a pre-season and we get to see them play either at AFL or VFL level before we make any judgements.

The best thing about AFL is there is 18 positions on the ground that are filled by players of varying height and body sizes.  We had a 177cm Brownlow medallist this year, that isn't overly quick but he can find the Footy, work through traffic and hit targets.

Quite obviously  you haven't read the profiles of Bowey and Laurie or watched closely the highlights, Sydee.

Both look miles ahead of even Kossie in their games highlights as they run dodge  move smoothly and mark and pass surely no fumbles etc etc and kick goals.

And  the best thing esp about Laurie Is  his elite footy brain but Bowey is also composed and highly competitive like Laurie as  they Link up between backline centre and finish off with goals as only Trac does of our midfielders to date.

To be honest Without downgrading any of our small forwards/ winger types both would Be in my Round1 team if fit and healthy and promising in the practice games.  Even ahead of  Kossie (really This shouldn't happen.ideally).

And I am not underestimating Rosman  who I believe will be a wonderfully versatile winger and firward or even intercept centre half back Or flanker at times. He has plenty of boxes ticked Size pace Marking goal scoring smooth mover and looks a reliable kick of a long distance.

Size won't be the reason Sydee, these two are the best of the smalls as Indicated by Laurie nearly BOG On the Final in 2019 for the Chargers. Your all sowing your MFC SS: to delude you that small as we have recruited for years Is not great.  All three will succeed because of their ability and determination plus football smarts and attitude.

Of course you are entitled to express your view and opinion but I don't believe it's on the mark from  anything I have seen in their interviews highlights and opinions of Sheehan Twomey and Taylor.

I am a big fan of Spargo, but the side step and the agility that Laurie has is better than Spargo's. Which is fine, Spargo has a lot of other talents as well.

In terms of heigh - 179 and 175cm. If we compare that to Richmond:

179: Rioli, Stack

178: Lambert, Short

177: Arts

175: Bolton, Prestia

173: Baker

I was shocked to begin with, but the more I've watched, read, and thought about it, I think the boys will be ok. We do have the tall boys to help them out. I do share your excitement for Rosman though - what an interesting prospect.

Thanks 58er and I hope you are right and both go on to be great players and enjoy the ultimate success in red & blue

I have read all the bios and I have watched a couple of full games

Certainly not writing any of them off - I guess I have a bit more faith in Kossie , Spargo and even Bedford  and struggled a bit with another two smalls with our first two picks

JT does have some form so deserves my trust

179cm for Laurie isn't small, the game is just fascinated by big mids when most of what they do isn't impacted by aerial contests. Matt Rowell, Lachie Neale, Dion Prestia, Luke Shuey types keep dominating games at that size. Add in Viney. I'd like him to be quicker, but he has elite agility and an above average tank, assuming he can get stronger and leaner he should have very good burst speed. If he can win or be trained to win contested ball with that agility he'll make a very good midfielder and that's the kind of mid we lack. The big question mark is we just didn't get to see him have his top age season and progress in to the midfield and show he can do it. I assume the recruiters have seen enough of his school games and NAB league games to be comfortable with his ball winning.

Bowey is a good athletic package too, speed, agility, endurance, jumping (power) all very solid. From what I've seen he doesn't look a natural at pressuring like Kossie and seems more keen to play like a winger, but maybe that's ok too? How often is Ed Langdon disadvantaged by height? If Bowey can do everything Langdon does and can kick that's a good player. I'm getting more convinced the best use of him in time will be half back in a Caleb Daniel/John Noble/Lewis Jetta style role which means he has to be as good as he possibly can be to make it at his height, but JT seems sure he plays above his height, so we'll have to trust that.

Those 2 definitely have talent, it's just whether they can develop and if we are prepared to play a more open running style that doesn't rely on size and contested footy.

There's a lot to like about Rosman but he's an athlete turned footballer, the form just isn't there. He's a project for Choco.

Plus we now have the best development coach in the AFL.

I'm particularly bullish on Laurie. His pin point I50 kicks were the stand out for me in his highlights package. This is exactly what we need and with Chocco working with him to hone his skills i reckon he'll make it.

i am not sure why this fuss over their height, it is their skill at getting the ball and using it well that we are after.  Their rolw is likely to be crumbing at browns feet so if brown does not get the ball they do.  having less height and more speed can help them get in and under and get the ball, and is likely to result in them getting more high tackles than a taller player would.  Their addition to the team will hopefully push our other small forwards to work harder and improve their skills because if they dont they wont get too much game time.

Great article if you can get past the paywall.

" ...He’s got a lot of work to do, and he’d be the first to admit that, with cleaning up his skills and improving his kicking,’’ Bourke said.

But his raw athleticism is freakish and if he can learn to hit the right spots and get into space he’s going to be a really dangerous player, someone who can break lines and be capable of hitting the scoreboard. He’s got that pace and endurance.’’

Fraser Rosman  clunks a mark like Sean Wight did and runs similar it is incredible to watch and tackles just as hard .  He knows where the goals are.  His kicking is a touch awkward IMV  but effective.  Could turn out to be a very good utility for us .

Is definitely a Sean Wight  Mark ll.......

So long as he does not do his knee like Sean did early in his career, which probably reduced his pace and spring slightly.

I love the name Rosman. I admit, I spend time searching out players with typical German names. I could name a Demon historical side of  Krauts who have played for the Demons. I'd like to add the name Rosman.Does anyone know of his family's origins? A Wesley boy, therefore cosmopolitan, the name, according to Google,  of Eastern  European Jewish descent. I love the highlights package, I am impressed - a high-marking left-foot wingman, just what this side needs.

I reckon If the Surnames align I might have played against his father years ago in cricket. If What I say IS correct and it is the same bloke and he is like his old man ....... Watch out coz his Dad was a Mad as a Cut snake FAST BOWLER WITH A KILLER INSTINCT! But a great bloke

And If I'm Right? We have picked a take no prisoners type!???

    HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne traveled across the continent to take on the Fremantle Dockers in sweltering conditions at Mandurah south of Perth in a game that delivered the club both its highlight and its lowlight in the first minute.  But first, let’s start by doing away with the usual cliches used in connection with the game. It was just a practice match and the result didn’t matter. Bad kicking is bad football. The game was played in severe heat, the swirly breeze played havoc with both teams resulting in
