Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Why would he retire HT?

I just have a feeling his body will be telling him to call it a day... it's been through a lot and it's starting to show.  As the lawyer in the Castle said, "it's just... the vibe, your honour."

In his position I would hang in there for 2021.

Would you? What if the club said we'll still pay you everything you're owed but find other ways to use your considerable other talents.

His legs look shot and he's ducking in to tackles and risking further concussions. Unless he and the club thinks there's something he can change over summer to find more vitality they won't be doing him any favours by having him play on.

Always interesting to have this discussion every year! IMHO we need to target 2 ready made players from other clubs using a few players with something that others clubs can utilise. The ones most likely would be Preuss to GWS, ? Perryman and TMAC/Sparrow/Dunkley to Ess for Saad.

If Daniher is open to coming to us and we can sort out his issues that would solve some of our glaring issues.

All of our draftees must have kicking and marking skills

What about getting the ball skills. Sparrow is a development player, why strat him off them ship him off to get another kid who is starting from scratch

Have the 2021 list sizes been confirmed yet? Hard to tell what will happen until then (or do they already know with the Roos slashing the list and haven’t announced).
If the lists are reduced to 35 then we need to only retain the best 35 and disregard potential. There will be plenty of potential players that are able to develop in lower levels to pick up in future years for maybe cheaper picks than current value due to a glut of players.
Therefore the footy dept need to agree on  team structure (ie two talls) to the pick players who can replace the ‘soldier’ when one inevitably goes down. Therefore positions 23 to 35 need, a ruck, tall fwd, small fwd, flankers, tall def, small def and mids - utilities who can play multiple position will be very valuable.

Negotiations with AFLPA ongoing.

Clubs would know the parameters of those negotiations.

Rumour is 2-3 player reduction this year and same next year

Hopefully they also change the draft rules for minimum new players.
Would rather some players stay on than any pick the 70’s to get to the 3.
Roosy would be happy if the draft age was lifted now.

What did he show this year?

Zero. But he didn’t get much opportunity to show his ability given the VFL was canceled.

I would not take many picks in this draft. It’s compromised and hard to select given no junior football. And draftees get two years vs Dunkley one.

You can only trade players if they are on a contract.  Trade T.Mac, Viney and Brayshaw. Retire Jones,Jetta,K.K and Nietschke.

Delist 2 Wagners just for starters.

Why would Jetta retire with one more year on his contract. K.K maybe due to his concussion issues and Neitschke been promised a contract. Viney is out of contract.

rookie upgrades count as draft picks so lockhart presumably takes up one and if the list setup changes and we have to upgrade more then it counts as draft picks

My list changes for 2021:

Retire: Nathan Jones, Neville Jetta (both had excellent careers).
Trade: Angus Brayshaw (can only play as an inside mid and often turns the ball over by either hand or foot).  Trade for another player or a second round draft pick.

Looking at the entire current list as "best 22" and then "back up/development" you could make a case for delisting most of the "back up/development" players (we don't bat very deep!).  I would have Jay Lockhart, Adam Tomlinson, Marty Hore and Braydon Preuss as game day emergencies for my "best 22".

Tom McDonald in my best 22 on a wing.  Am I mad!?!?  He is supposed to be one of the best endurance runners at the club, so if he was fully fit I'd play him on the wing for some gut running ala Langdon, and use him as a down the line chop out option (freeing up Max Gawn to work more up and down the middle of the ground as an attacking option).  If he can't get fit (he looks to have lost some mobility after his knee injury last season) then it could be better to explore trade options.

    Best 22
B Trent Rivers Steven May  Michael Hibberd
HB Jake Lever  Harrison Petty Christian Salem
C Ed Langdon Christian Petracca Tom McDonald
HF Jayden Hunt Sam Weideman Bayley Fritsch
F Kysaiah Pickett Luke Jackson Mitch Hannan
R Max Gawn  Clayton Oliver  Jack Viney

C Harley Bennell James Jordon  Kade Kolodjashnij
HF Jake Melksham  Mitch Brown Alex Neal-Bullen

Retire - Jetta?, Kk ?

thats 10 off the list  (down to 35)

who is in the fringes ???

1. I’m feeling compassion and I know I might be ridiculed but I’m giving Jonesy one more year.

2. Hannan and Spargo are just hanging on ... just

3. Bedford and Jordan are just hanging in for their development

4. Hunt and Baker saved themselves in the last 2 games and at least they’ve got pace which we lack

trade discussion - Preuss (Giants?) Neal-Bullen (Crows?) Tmac (anyone who is interested). I reckon ideally at least two trades here  (brings list down to 33)

probably will entertain a discussion about Sparrow but would love to keep him (Crows would need to give us their 2nd round pick circa pick 19).

List to rookie list - Nietschke (as promised )

I think the AFL will cut lists to 40 (37 plus 3 rookies)

I holding firm

When you look at the list, your right our depth is a concern.

the problem is we have this reluctance to try new things. Every time we lose a game we drop a forward, hannan, ANB, hunt and spargo and when we do, it is another of this same group that replaces them. Same deal began to happen across the park this year (although somewhat down to injuries)

When a mid went down it was vanders who came in when jordon and dunkley r there and we dont know if they're at the level but we wont find out

when hibbo missed a week it was harmes in the backline or ??jwagner?? playing what about chandler (believe he was training there over summer)

when a forward had 4 touches they bring in another of these guys that we know what they offer at the level and theres a reason they aren't in the side consistently.

i think its time (and look at how port transformed their list) - baker, sparrow, jordon, bedford, petty, chandler, dunkley need to be next in next season so we can see if they're up to it and the next 3-4 guys we recruit + the say two who fall out of the 22 and those already contracted can fill their role in the twos alongside a couple of others. otherwise we are stagnating development and we end up with 10 players with no experience on the list just being passengers and ineffective players repeatedly offering us nil in the seniors but staying on the list as "good cover"

i feel like i havent really phrased my argument too well but hopefully yall understand kinda what im aiming for here

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
