As @Hell Bentsaid, let him learn from Langdon - my feeling is that he is quick, but not overly fit

He can learn....are the coaches helping him?

I just think it's too late for that now unfortunately.

If they could pull it off, I'd be all about it. But it seems that Langdon/Baker on the wings with either Tomlinson/ANB/Vanders/Bennell as the chop out is the way forward.

I also think if Bedford can't find a spot in the forward line, he should definitely be tried on the wing as well, he performed very well in our 3km and when he was playing for Casey last season, a lot of it was through the Wing position. (that and the forward line).

The footy IQ is the main thing for Langdon and it's been brought up multiple times by commentators (ex AFL players), he holds structure and plays as a genuine winger. I haven't seen enough footy IQ from Hunt to prove he can do that, he gets sucked into the contests far too easily.

Has he been given enough of a go on the wing?

Not in the slightest.

If we weren't so reliant on him playing deep forward in 2019, he may have been given opportunity there.
Given he has played both ends in his career, I just don't see the club at this point giving him another spot and a chance to claim it.

I really hope someone at the club can work out how to maximise his talent because he has a lot of x-factor about him that is worth building around. I didn't mind the way he played on the weekend - he was dangerous when he got the ball inside 50 (and kicked an excellent goal and almost kicked another one in a similar fashion) and occasionally made his way to half back to help out. As another poster mentioned in the kick-ins thread, he provided a great option late in the game on the opposite wing but May ignored him. I think he has value as a medium marking and crumbing forward option, who can pinch hit around stoppages to provide an extra outside player - so long as he's given the licence to do that.

I was watching his highlights reels from 2016 and 2019 the other day and thought, "Damn, this is exactly the kind of player we need!"

Jeez looking at those highlights, 2016 in particular, makes you wonder how we haven’t been able to make a player out of him.

What was interesting looking at the 2016 highlights was that he sat on the outside a lot at times for others to extract the ball out and then when he received he would just take off.

I’m definitely keen to give him another year, and I think it’s as much on the coaching staff as it is for Hunt to make something of him.

i think a few people have got it spot on in here so far, yes hes rapid and breaks lines however he often runs himself into trouble or dump handballs to someone else whos in more trouble than him the "lumumba-toumpas handpass" as i know it as they were serial offenders and if he does get the kick it is just a hack with no accuracy and no direction which led to turnovers and quick transitions out of our forward line by oppo HBs. he's had plenty of chances and clearly hasnt quite found a place.

I've heard @LekdogSC and @JG2325 do carlton and essendon respectively  list analysis on twitter recently and both believe he can fit in there as a dashing defender and would be available. he's a player i'd allow to leave cheaply with blessing and would like to see flourish elsewhere with no hard feelings. the other club i can see him fitting in at would be the doggies as a mitch wallis foil as a lead up. they've had lots of instability in that second small position and he could fit their style in that way.

however he's had his chances here and ultimately dissapointed a lot of us fans and obviously the coaches too hence the 5 game season

Highlights reels always look great. Even Cale Morton looks good in his highlights reel.

Tank not big enough to play wing. Suspect defensively. Explosive burst of speed, can take a grab and not a bad kick for goal. I think he is good enough to cement a forward spot. Keep for mine.

Love Jayden Hunt.

Goodwin needs to play him on the wing or half back where his speed and attacking is an adavantage.

"You win with your strengths" D. Neitz

Goody has never given him a decent go.

The highlights package didn't show the torp in Alice either, right on the siren.

He needs the opportunity. His tank will get bigger as he gets older. Early on, it wasn't just him, the whole team needed stability.

Keep him. JT can't find a player better than him for the price we'll get for him. Reduce trading and stabilise those we have.

And yes, I can't recall who said, he's been over coached. Let him have his head and let him go.

Plays his best footy down back. Those 2026 highlights clearly show that.

sign him. only 2 year deals though moving forward.. if he gets a better offer all the best to him. tough and kicks goals. a little inconsistent but we need those role player types.

why 2 years.... just asking

One at most if any was my thinking

Have a look at LH's wonderful sticky on contracts.

We have lots of dying/dead wood to deal with

he fills a need and needs to feel wanted by the club to stick around.. not 3 years though. 2 is a compromise. we offer him 1, he leaves then we have to get some delisted chump from adelaide.. get my drift?

One of the things that stood out on the weekend was how much effort the whole team put in on the weekend, which certainly included Hunt.  I would have the likes of Jayden and Spargo in ahead of others who don't apply any pressure every day of the week.  It's mind boggling that the Coaching staff don't prioritise this.

In a league with a salary cap and few stars, you're always going to be filling out the team with ~10 players who are largely interchangeable with the bottom 10 of any other team.  The difference with these players is effort.

We should definitely hold onto Hunt (at the right price).

One of those players who are good but not premiership team good enough.

Hes not alone. On this basis I would lean to offloading him. Not an easy choice but clubs hungry for a flag make these decisions.

As mentioned he is not alone and I believe he is towards the bottom of the delist list so to speak.

But with a flag in mind then yep its time to be tough provided that the many above him are moved on as well.

Thanks Deeman for posting those videos. The 2016 JH was brilliant. Instead of just giving up on him, we should try and get him back to that form and we would have another very good player.

I know what you're getting at but there are plenty of fringe players who are premiership players.

Shai Bolton last year, Daniel Venables the year before, Jacob Townsend the year before that are three examples. Mitch Morton and Steven Armstrong are classic examples.

Agsin a player that has gone backwards under our system of Coaches. How long do we persist or who can get more out of Hunty with development training?

You make a solid case uranus.?

I will say out of all the fringe players we Jhunt would be the likely one to keep. Great speed. Has  also showed a lot of courage of late. Good goal sense to boot.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
