This is crap. The only thing I look forward to has been taken away . I'm calling for drastic change. Let the virus spread if the elderly and sick die so be it don't take away our football.

Don’t worry, you’ll still be allowed to name your teams for each round.

Time to watch Jimmy Swaggart or join the pentecostals.

And after a full conversion, you will be protected by the blood of Jesus.

But sorry, no footy.

Right then people. Let's all get self isolating like there's no tomorrow. The sooner we get this thing licked the sooner we get our Dees back. I was going to say let's mobilise but you know what I mean.

What will clubs do now? Will they continue to  train in an extended pre season? At least it gives plenty of time for Harley and Aaron to get fully fit and over their injuries.

Oh wake up!!!!!!!!!

The entire competition will be on its knees financially by the end of the season and you want to bleat about a comp that COSTS money because "sexism"?

Pull you head out of your dot.

take it easy with the abuse champ!

You speak of the end of the season like a distant event...I'm not sure you're right, but if the men get a season in then I can't see why 3 games (with minimal costs) will make any difference, financially. Many would challenge your assertion that AFLW costs money. It has led to a large up swell of grassroots players, strengthening footy all over Aus.

You have an interesting perspective re finances. the biggest drain on the AFL's coffers in 2020 will be paying players and staffers in the AFL whose clubs are not playing. If the AFL goes under financially it will be because of the highly professionalised environment of the men's game.

I think it's a little crude to criticise me for a lack of perspective. like me, you are on a football forum discussing the implications of a global pandemic on football. I'd say we are both a tad light on perspective.

Finally sexism does not cease to exist or become less problematic just because the AFL is in financial trouble.

I expect the AFL will give the clubs say a month's notice of an intended restart. Until then players will stay home like the rest of us.

The May 31 date is just a guess as we all know

Not allowed to I think, Bobby.  Will probably have individual programs to follow but can't train as a group.

Yeah ok, that will work.

Look on the bright side, maybe you could go and get a life....

Oh no wasn't jonsey going to get to 300 this year? Bugger.

Whoever started this virus has a lot to answer.

At least I won't have to hear about Essendon or Collingwood for awhile.

But it's going to be odd , will fox footy shut down, I'm guessing no footy shows. It's strange times at the moment

I wonder why???

Surely it would be better at least for people to go outside if no one else is in their space.

Maybe the density of population in some areas is the problem.

This season is probably a write-off,.  Steven May will be twenty nine years old when the season starts next year.

As long as the TV companies will pay they will play the season even if it means them playing on Christmas day. The clubs are desperate for the money and it underlines how parlous the comp is relative to the big money comps overseas.

If the TV companies void their contract then life becomes interesting.

I think SEN will have to close, they have been close to it for a while and this is a tipping point.

Maybe they can close up then try and re start at a later date.

A lot of late night meetings going on.

I've been meeting with myself for the last few weeks...

.................. and I was very naively thinking that football would be my 'escape' from all this crap.  Might have to turn to the bottle.

I don't think that was ever in doubt DOF.

Won't even get one viewing in as i didn't renew my Kayo from last season.

Just paid a final visit to Dan's to stock up on some imbibing fluid.  Time to hunker down.

Here in Malaysia there is a no movement order and other than going to the shops to buy food no one is allowed outside. The virus level is about the same as Oz.

The AFL is a sexist disgrace. Gil has said he is committed to playing the remaining 16 rounds plus finals of AFL at some stage this year, yet AFLW is cancelled with 3 games remaining. I know this is probably irrelevant given it is unlikely either formats will recommence in 2020, but on principle it is poor. It is time to stop treating AFLW as a level of equality the AFL has gifted to women.

Totally agree..  Treating the AFLW differently from AFL is wrong...

Fox Footy should play the first AFL season 1990, from start to finish, as it would have been played that year. As in, on Friday night play the Friday night games and then play the weekend’s game. Get them recalled by their current commentary team. Just an idea. They’ll have to think outside the box. Better than just playing re runs of recent games. Play it as a season.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
