  1. I think the gf is hosted by the highest finishing home side in the prelims. Or if both gf teams were away sides in the prelim, the highest finishing away side. So if its bris v north, north would host. If its bris v adel, bris would host. If melb v adel, adel host. If melb v north, north host. ...just realised I'm getting ahead of myself and assuming adel and melb win next week
  2. If we beat North and Adelaide win next week, we'll meet in the prelim. Dees home game. The only way we can face Adelaide in the gf is if we lose to north, adelaide and us both win in week 2 of the finals and then we both win away prelims, us vs bris, adel vs north. Adel would then have a home gf against us....seems pretty remote
  3. Not the only factor, but we got smashed in the ruck until the last qrt which created a lot of their dominance. Pearce really struggled against a more athletic high jumping ruck. Pearce is a fantastic ruck but didn't match up well tonight. Our dominance in the 2nd came when Zanker was rucking. It was a shame to lose Rhi Watt, but dropping Cambell for Watt was a stupid selection in my opinion. No shade on Watt, but she is low on match experience and Cambell has been terrific this season.
  4. It's probably a little odd for a 40yo to have a 'favourite' player. But Tayla is my favourite. The handful of conversations she's had with my kids and I over the boundary line have shown her to be a terrific person. Loves her team mates. Excited about footy. Genuinely Appreciates the fans. Very giving of her time.
  5. Exactly, and as someone who hopes to use his Grand Final Guarantee in the next year or 2, it's a big concern. I would hope that MFC have sold no more than the seats they would be allocated, not including standing room
  6. It seems the ticketing debacle is the fault of the CFC. It's being reported that cat 1 members with a gfg were guaranteed a ticket. But that ticket could be any category, including standing room. Some of those members were allocated standing room but had opted out of this option by ticking a box. Therefore they lost their ticket. According to Ticketek this is because CFC instructed them to prioritise all members equally. Meaning GFG members were guaranteed a ticket, but not one of a paticilar level. This is also why some cat 3 members got great seats while some cat 1 got nose bleeds. In contrast Brisbane instructed ticketek to offer level 1-4 seats to their cat 1 members,4-5 for their cat 2 members and anything left for their cat 3 members What is uncleat is how many GFGs CFC have sold.
  7. Exactly how I a feeling. My sipport for MFC is unwavering, but I'm not sure I can continue taking my family to AFL if the leaguecondones this. I already buya Melb United 3 game membership in the NBL. Maybe I'll extend that
  8. Is there a higher chance of rerupture with non operative?
  9. Bumped into Alyssa working at my local Rebel a few months back. It was great to see her, but I remember feeling how wrong it was that such a star isn't earning a living wage playing footy. The payment system in place would make it very enticing for a quality tier 2 or 3 player to move if they could get a tier 1 spot
  10. This is so true....I haven't shown anywhere near the dedication and support to our women as you and others. I attended a couple of matches in season 1 and then put Casey Fields in the too hard basket. This year I was drawn back in and attended the last 4 home games and the 2 finals in Melbourne. I came back for a few reasons. I wanted to show my kids that there was no difference in the amount of effort I'd go to to attend afl vs aflw (of course they come too, as well as my Dad and wife). I also couldn't resist the way they were playing. I had to see that excitement in person. I've been surprised by how friendly and grateful for the support our AFLW players are. As outlined above I wouldn't be a recognisable face for them. Yet have found players keen to have a yarn after matches on the fence. Often they refuse to leave the ground despite minders trying to move them on. Hanks seems particularly notorious for this. The pre gf training was the best. My daughtet and I had long chats with several nervous and excited players. A little effort as a supporter and I quickly felt very connected to this teams journey. Our women are absolute stars!
  11. Yeah. While I have an in principle support for the top teams right to pick a home ground. It shouldn't be at the expense of the fans and of the fairness and integrity of the game. To my mind the fan lockout and the likely heat mean both have been compromised. Given we were separated on the ladder by 1 point in a year when the draw had no integrity, a gf at a neutral venue like Docklands would have made sense, when the 2 big qld venues were unavailable.
  12. That's discraceful treatment of fans.....many Brisbane fans have missed out as well by the sounds of it. Like many I am shocked the game is being played in the heat of the day. I'm assuming this is because the ground doesn't have lights?
  13. Does anyone know where and when the women are training this week? I'd love to take the kids along if they are open sessions
  14. This is a constant week in, week out. The umps allow way too much leway re incorrect disposal. It penalises teams that are more skillful and want to take the game on, and benefits teams that just want to bash and crash. It's time they start umpiring to the standard of the better players, rather than the new recruits from other sports.
  15. False negatives are incredibly common over the first 3-4 days of infection. After this time the viral load builds up and the test becomes more reliable.
  16. As much as I'd love to watch it, I'm pretty sure they won't want Geelong watching a live feed of the scratch match.
  17. Lot's of journalist have thrown around the term closed borders, but international flights have never stopped. People returning from overseas need to do 2 weeks of hotel quarantine.
  18. take it easy with the abuse champ! You speak of the end of the season like a distant event...I'm not sure you're right, but if the men get a season in then I can't see why 3 games (with minimal costs) will make any difference, financially. Many would challenge your assertion that AFLW costs money. It has led to a large up swell of grassroots players, strengthening footy all over Aus. You have an interesting perspective re finances. the biggest drain on the AFL's coffers in 2020 will be paying players and staffers in the AFL whose clubs are not playing. If the AFL goes under financially it will be because of the highly professionalised environment of the men's game. I think it's a little crude to criticise me for a lack of perspective. like me, you are on a football forum discussing the implications of a global pandemic on football. I'd say we are both a tad light on perspective. Finally sexism does not cease to exist or become less problematic just because the AFL is in financial trouble.
  19. The AFL is a sexist disgrace. Gil has said he is committed to playing the remaining 16 rounds plus finals of AFL at some stage this year, yet AFLW is cancelled with 3 games remaining. I know this is probably irrelevant given it is unlikely either formats will recommence in 2020, but on principle it is poor. It is time to stop treating AFLW as a level of equality the AFL has gifted to women.
  20. At some stage a player will contract the virus and the season will be halted. The best chance of getting a legitimate season in, is if they start before this happens and hope they have enough time to squeeze in the remaining games if the season can be restarted. Like others have pointed out, These guys are already gathering together for training. I don't see that playing matches in empty stadiums increases the risk of disease transmission.
  21. I agree in full. To suggest it is racist to point out the obvious and well documented failings of an authoritarian international government is non sensical. As LG points out, by muddying the waters this actually emboldens true racists to say whatever they want and pay out on what they see as left wing pinkos when they are criticized.
  22. As others have pointed out the game goes for half as long as a men's match so scores will naturally be lower. Games are also much more exposed to the wheather which impacts scoring. The last touch rule also results in more half ground turnovers. Add to that shorter, less precise kicks and you get a lower scoring match, that is nevertheless fantastic contested footy that I really enjoy watching. Also worth noting that the scoring and standard has increased dramatically from the first round to the end of season in previous seasons.
  23. Quite possibly. But in quarter 2 and 4 the backline was pretty irrelevant as tends to be the way at Casey
  24. Loved the win. Could have been a bigger win if not for the 50s and advantage that wasn't allowed. though Pearce was good in the 1st quarter but was wasted behind the ball after that. Especially in the 2nd and 4th when we had the wind.
  25. Interesting post. I reckon the team is fairly settled if everyone is fit. Core FB lever May jetta Chb Salem Hore Hibberd Centre Tomlinson Oliver Langdon HF Melksham Petracca Ff fritsch TMac Vanders Fow Gawn Viney Brayshaw Int Harmes Jones It's missing - 1 tall forward (Wied, Preuss, Brown, Petty). - 1 small/mid size forward (Hannan, Hunt, ANB, Spargo, Lockart, Smith). - 1 defender tall or medium depending on opposition (OMac, Petty, Brown, Wagner, Smith) I reckon Jetta, Jones and Hibberd are still core. Whilst they may be slowing down, I can't see who would be pushing them out of the side.
