Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Only the 3 score involvements and 1 goal assist but didn't have a clanger, had good pressure numbers and I thought he was getting to the right spots around half forward and using the ball very cleanly.

Goals would be nice but I don't think that's what he's in the team for. It's more likely we have Pickett in the side if we want a dangerous crumber, but there's room for Pickett closer to goal and for someone like Spargo around half forward.

ANB had better numbers but his fumbles and poor approach to tackling will always cost us, where as Spargo did the same kind of role in a more efficient way.

I agree mate, he had a good game and is a possibility to  play round 1 IMO.

Not huge numbers but was noticeably clean out there tonight.

The hate this kid gets on here is ridiculous, the kids a 20 year old ffs.

Lockhart played as a small in the backline in 2018 for Casey and was super impressive.  It got him the AFL spot. I think he’s a lock for round 1.  His intensity is what we need in the dogfight.

Is very evasive and hits targets. A lock for my 22 vs West Coast.

Still wondering what he did wrong with that bizarre call against him when he spoiled the ball over the line.

Signs of a game plan with the ball - use the wings and the diagonal switch to the half forward.

Signs of a better game plan without the ball - those same wingers covering off and a nicely balanced zone.

Signs of individual player improvement - Viney fit, Langdon/Tomlinson on the wings, Jones with more freedom, Petracca, Lockhart at half back, Spargo around half forward.

That's about all you can hope for.

There's a few personnel concerns I have but they are mostly the ones we know well.

In terms of game plan concerns the biggest bug bear from last year that I'm not convinced we've fixed yet is the multiple demons flying at the same ball. At both ends of the ground but particularly in the forward line.

Couple of good things here.

Switching ....Melbourne.....amazing and it was working with reasonably clean effective disposal, blokes prepared to cover ground.

Tomlinson played like he was a glove fit for us and had time.

Liked the way Lever was gradually creeping up the ground, with May out back there was always someone capable there.

Tough to find a more creative handballer to advantage than Spargo, not withstanding Oliver.

There are still several changes to come in this team.

Take the individual performances away, the Best thing for mine was that there was no confusion in the backline, the movement to the wing seemed natural, the options forward were less predictable, and the the team tackling (at least in the first half) was representative of what we expect with our list. West coast will be a struggle no doubt, but we’re with an equally strong side on paper tonight, we’re giving ourselves the best chance! Go Dees!!!

Literally no idea what this means. Just passing on what I’m seeing.

Various views on one who could be a very important asset.

Looking forward to hearing an authoritative response.

Also played off HBF for North Launceston before he came to Casey.

And the HTB when he almost took the mark, ball just bounced in front of him. No prior, right in front of goal.

According to the official Dees match report vandenBerg is the only injury concern. No mention of Weid even though he is clearly injured.

The only concern for the Dees was foot bruising for hard-nut Aaron vandenBerg, who was left off the field after half-time as a precaution. Foot injuries have curtailed vandenBerg's career in the past two seasons.

O.Mac isn't offensive enough and considering Jetta isn't great offensively I don't want too many who don't attack, but if Lever struggles at CHB then he probably comes in straight away.

Tom McDonald has got off lightly here tonight. What’s his current role? He was fumbly again. No real influence on the game at all.

He was terrible but he was good against Adelaide.

Struggling to understand the Hibberd hate. Strange really, perhaps some aren’t watching the game properly.

Pretty sloppy and boring footy on the whole (pre-season, makes sense) and nothing to suggest either side should be flag favourites HOWEVER;

- our wing-recruits seemed to do the job they were brought In to to do

- Jackson showed some. He has extremely long and sticky fingers in ruck contests. Will be a proper tap ruckman as well as a second-effort ruckman one day which will be dangerous

- Geeze we looked different up forward when we moved it in quickly on the rebound. Beginning to understand why they’re tinkering around with the half backs (on top of recruiting new wings)

- Petracca looks 48% smarter than previous years (on top of improved fitness). His footy IQ was never obvious but he did some really smart things tonight.

- Best game from Viney in 18 months

OMac is a defender and was excellent in the defensive system tonight

maybe Tmac was playing a decoy role to clear out the forward 50 for Fritsch and Melk. well at least that's what i'm hoping he was doing, because he was largely unsighted!

Hawks did seem to crowd our F50 a fair bit at times though, and no tall forwards on either team had a good night, so maybe it was just one of those games.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
