Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but generally if a player is getting that much pill they will look stuffed by the end of the game. Petracca looked like he did it on his ear, just going through the motions.

He's in for a huge year.

They all looked pretty good by the end of the game. I know it's only preseason and they weren't going 100%, but made me remember Burgess' comments in "To Hell And Back" about standing next to your opponent and knowing you'd put in more work than them and would outlast them (or words to that effect).

Having not watched the game I was happy to see that Trac kicked 3.1 and not the usual 1.3. Were his goals on the run or from set shots?

Missing Gawn, Fritsch and May you could argue we were missing our spine today, so to win is very pleasing and to run out a game is a massive positive.

He also told them not to hunch over when finishing a run. "Never show the opposition you're tired".

Didn't see any of our players with hands on knees today.

They looked really fit.

Also, Clarrie copped a pretty nasty bump to the throat and chin which had him on the ground spewing. Anyone else reckon there's a review in it?

I think 2.1 set shots.

1 snap.

The point hit the post too, so could easily have been 4 straight.  He's completely overhauled his kicking style on the set shots.  Low ball drop and a much lower trajectory kick.  I think he spent a few hours on that over the break.

Things I noted in particular:

Kossie right at the beginning of the game was involved in our back pocket chasing and tackling.  The ball then went to our forward line on the opposite corner of the ground, where remarkably Kossie chased several players through a handball chain before forcing the stoppage (can't remember if he tackled the guy in play or over the line).  It took me a while to realise that he's been on the opposite side of the ground for the beginning of that passage.  Great work ethic from the little guy.

Lever took three great defensive marks early to steady us down.  His kicking wasn't great though.

Oliver seems to be hesitating and it caused issues a few times.  I'm wondering if his instructions run counter to his natural game?

Jackson struggled and he's not taking the ball first grab yet.  He did show a few little flashes of awesome though.  He had one spectacular moment in the ruck where he timed his leap just right and rode on top of the other guy.

Weed fought really hard.  The ruck was always going to be a problem today and he managed to neutralise a number of contests and even win some.

Langdon is going to be gold for us on the wing.  He ran all day and crossed contests at speed to be the receiver.  Very solid game.  Didn't notice Tomlinson as much.

I did notice Sparrow in the second half and he looks like he's going to be pretty decent.  Good pace and a great build.

There were a lot of fumbling players out there for us too.  A few more games to get the pace and touch back and we should see another step up in quality as those little issues go away.

Langdon and Tomlinson were excellent today.  I think Tomlinson took 6 or 8 marks today simply by holding his position.  I love that he doesn't get sucked into the contest and has the discipline to play his role.  He will consistently provide us with an option and his team mates will have confidence in him because they'll know he's where he is supposed to be. Langdon's run was very impressive.

Before the anti Spargo brigade get going I thought that while he suffered three glaring skill errors that I can recall he was in the right place at the right time.Correct those skill errors and the Spargo we used to know is back.

Langdon looks likely but his hairstyle makes him easy to spot.

Spargo is a substandard AFL Player. Has limited skills and as you have alluded to "Glaring Skill Errors"

How he gets a game in front of Hunt is "Perplexing"

Trac was a machine and Jones did some good things.  T Mac was well held in the first half, but had a great presence in the second half.

Not only did AVB get through the game, but he laid his usual big tackles (the forward half pressure he adds is really important), a few strong contested grabs and generally had a good impact on the game I thought.  Interesting to hear him say in the interview that he's feeling the best he has in three or four years - let's hope some of that rubs off Benell as well.

Weid rucked all game and got 19 disposals. Missed a few marks but a good effort and should be given credit. Also cudos to Chunk who was highly effective and far from finished. Sparrow and Lockhart showed glimpses. Far more positives than negatives.

Weid did very well in an unfamiliar role.   Stepped up with both Gawn and Preuss out.   Well done to him.

Round 1 is going to be very interesting.  I think we will only play one of Weid and Luke Jackson.  (This is assuming Gawn is back).

For years Jee-long fans complained how hopeless Hawkins was. Eventually he came good. We can only hope that Weiderman follows the same path.

The Weid can play well and take big marks. He did it regularly in the 2018 final series. I too think it is a confidence thing. He also in those games provided great forward pressure.
l suggest when Max is back and Weid plays full time as a forward, that the confidence with his marking will return particularly if we deliver to our forwards as we did in this game. When on song, Weid is a key part of our game. I am confident this will continue.

My knock on him is marking. Even in the 18 finals series he wasn’t clunking them they were two bites. One of them was even Bradbury like the rest of the pack fell over and it landed in his lap.

Yeah Crouch has to go for at least a week for it. He got him with his shoulder but raised his elbow, which is never a good look. Clarrie instant brought up his lunch, then was rubbing his jaw on the way back after the next play.

I agree that he didn't have a great day, however, I think it is worth persisting with.  He's only had one practice game down there, so you'd like to see him given a few more before abandoning the idea.

Harmes had a full game at half back vs North last year (rd 23) and played well I thought.

I think he starts there, particularly given Brayshaw needs to come back in to the midfield.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
