  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Maybe that is a truism.   But is there any evidence that the MFC can't cop criticism?

I'm more of a realist and recognise that, sooner or later, somebody will have to wash that bloody glass.

Whether it is half full or half empty, there won't ever be enough by the end of the day.

I would hate to be someone from the MFC reading this forum and what has been spoken about since the end of the season.

For far too long we have been accused of being a club that sits on it's hands, does nothing aggressive during trade time and gets bent over at the trade table.

Yet since the end of the 2019 '[censored]' season, the club has brought in Richardson, Burgess, Brukner, the dude from the Dolphins, outside run in Tomlinson and Langdon, took a risk on Bennell, invited a semi-proven forward in Mitch Brown to the club, shifted their position in this years' draft considerably for the positive and yet, you STILL have the nerve to bag the club for what they are not doing. Bloody hell!

I am pumped to see the club take chances, admit fault, bring in a fresh perspective and potentially get us back to finals in 2020.  There is no way in hell you would cop the level of criticism and negativity in your role as this club does.  Sometime it feels like a whingefest and sooky la-la session and it's time to look at the glass half full.  Because I have no doubt in my mind whatsoever that not if but when we rise back up the ladder all you backstabbers will the first one to start back-patting like the tweed coated MCC do!

Cheers, but I prefer to be a realist

Another season like 2019 and Goodwin is gone and we are back to square one

I do love the Burgess signing and the punt on Bennell

The tone and level of expression in a post is more a reflection of the writer than their intended target I think. I've seen many a scathing comment and thought, gee I wonder what's upset them enough to write that.

A problem with Demonland (and society) is that often people think down binary lines.  The OP is a classic example.

You are either a sycophant or as the OP puts it a "backstabber".

It is possible that by applying critical thinking to matters of the MFC you can appreciate some of the good things about the club and recognise the not so.

By the way, I am in a camp of no glass. Really arn't too concerned about the win/loss position, prefer the journey. Found us being in a final series quite stressful anyway. The home and away games not as much invested. I like uncrowded games and enjoy watching the opponents game as well.

I too find the finals stressful but I prefer that to being embarrassed every other week/year.
I want us to draw crowds as that means we are playing entertaining footy, and I also find empty stadiums embarrassing.
And no kid that dreams of playing AFL football dreams of playing at empty grounds which is why we'll never be a "destination club" if we can't reliably draw a crowd.
I fear losing Anzac eve, the QB and the revenue for the club and exposure for sponsors if we can't pull our sheet together ..... Quickly.
We need to learn to be successful and sustain it or slowly die on the vine.
And if the past 50yrs is anything to go by, I have zero confidence we can do it.
But I have all the confidence that if we do manage some success we'll somehow find a way to shoot ourselves in the foot and blow it.
Cause that's how we roll.

Demonland is a very good fan site IMO.

The mods do a great job. I find there are many views both positive, negative and neutral that are for the most part people engaging in a way that makes me want to come back and see what people are saying whether I agree with them or not. And chime in from time to time :)

The training reports are great. The insights from people in the know are worth coming here to check out. The game day posts from people having a vent or enjoying our wins adds a lot for me being a Dees supporter in Tasmania. I would far prefer this than watching a game on my own.

What I'm trying to say is my post is an example of why I don't think the OP (especially in the thread subject line) is correct.

It has been embarrassing and I think that is why I am not too invested in winning.

Still holding hope that we can be a power team. I do enjoy watching us when we are having a good day. In some of our quarters in 2018 we were unstoppable as was some of our scoring in the time-on periods and times when we hit multiple goals without a reply.

Unfortunately we can't seem to muster consistency.

The excuses of being a young or building team is wearing thin. We have had decades of that.

Hope we develop some pride and figure out how to win, nether alone crush some teams.

We really do need to hurt some of the others and gain our place beyond being the laughing stock.

The oppositions supporters get angry and abusive if we beat their team. Which does shock me given our past 50 years of struggle and that generally we have been a "nice and fair" team to play. I think that's why I don't want to be too Ra Ra about winning. As the one eyed ones seem mad and have ruined some of my friends, my family and my experiences at the footy.

Though in reality I would love to be one of the big kids on the block.

Yes, it is encouraging that the club is operating in a similar manner to any business hoping to improve itself. Yay.

Some of the relentless critics on here also expressed disgust with the clown who called out OMac at the members forum - recognising the fine line of public commentary. This is a useful site for venting frustration for many fans. I find most of it tedious, but I don't concern myself with what the MFC thinks about it and that we all ought to put on a public show of optimism.

What I wanted to point out is that no matter what this club does there seems to be a mentality of if it bleeds it leads within the forum.  I know the club has made errors on and off the field for a very long time but constantly bringing it up doesn't help anyone.  I can already see that no matter who we draft next week the knives will be out instead of celebrating the exciting additions to the MFC.

I agree 100% that I have had my say and I will not shy away from that. Good to see that you have picked out three posts out of my entire history to make a point. You could get a job with TMZ with that research ability.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
