Fritsch Raring to Go

The thing about Fritch is he acquitted himself quite well when he went to the backline as an intercept mark. Dont be surprised if that's where he occasionally goes.

Bayley Fritsch does everything right settled in nicely in his first season and was consistent.  He missed the Preliminary final because of team balance which IMO found it  strange with his ability to slot  in most positions on the ground.

It is not as if his form warranted to miss. Why wouldn't  he be raring to go in 2019. Is a great mark above his head, has a nice and composed left foot kicking style can kick a goal set and on the run and his defensive skills are elite. He will only improve.

To compare him to another player l won't however he does remind me IMO a bit like a young Robbie Flower.

I don’t care where he plays but this kid should always be in the team. He’s a beauty and there is a hint of Robbie.

Yes he's a good young kid. I was disappointed to see him miss out in last year's PF. He does play like RF. Good days ahead for Fritta and our club.

A few people on SEN1116 were talking Fritsch up already for All Australian contention. It will be very interesting to see how he goes this year once he's settled in a position. It looks like we will have a few AA's this year in Gawn, Oliver, Brayshaw, T.Mac, May, Jetta and Fritsch.

I hope gets to “own a position” : IMO a wing lookshis best position, as much as positions have mattered recently.  Perhaps the 666 starting positions will redefine positions such as the wing in particular.

As with any new player, he’s primed for a 2nd year drought. But my gut feeling is that he’ll continue on quietly as a largely underrated contributor, to which he will ultimately be recognised when he gets the nod in this years finals series! Go for it you good thing you!!!

Yes, i think many of us were perplexed by that one, probably just ran out of juice at that time of year. Classic player the opposition dont seem to know what to do with. Really like him.

I thought the opposite, I thought his game went down after they put him back, he is not a very good defender positioning wise and I thought we were better with him on a wing.

Yes it will be interesting to see how Fritsch goes in his 2nd year. I am not expecting him to star. But he looks a natural, he moves like a cat, that is where the Flower likeness comes in. You just know he wants to learn as well. This season I expect him to be solid and consistent, which means he could be great!

A natural wingman in an era when they have almost been driven out of the game by the term "midfielder". 

He demonstrates excellence in the four basic skills of footy - mark, kick, handball, evade -  and can sustain this excellence often under pressure.

And now this pre-season he has demonstrated an ability to work very, very hard on the training track.

Put all this together and add emerging similarities the great R Flower; 2019 could be anything.

It was a shocking decision to leave him out of the team, absolutely awful.

He should be one of the first picked every week.

I totally understand the reasoning for his omission from the PF side as he was physically shot, but I'm sure 6 Fristch kicks would've been of more value than Tyson's whopping 3 for the day.

Fritta is also much tougher than his frame would indicate. Similar to Hunt, as a thinner player who shirks nothing.

Lovely skills and great defensive work ethic makes this bloke a deserved first 22 player.

For me Bayley nicely demonstrates the difference in this club over the past five years. 

If Fritsch was playing for Casey before the 2013 draft we don’t pick him. We do however pick a skinny kid from the VFL. He has great endurance and can handball but is really one sided. He can’t kick or mark, hasn’t got the tricks to play small forward. We play him as a mid. He plays 9 games during the 2014 season and two in 2015 and is then delisted. He finishes his AFL career with a 3/8 win/loss record. Bailey is picked up by the Hawks the pick after ours. There is some discussion on this board that this rivals the Toumpas/Wines debacle as Bailey was actually taken from under our noses. 

Fast forward to the 2017 draft, and aside from the dedicated Casey watchers, there are some quiet murmurings on this board wondering if we had picked up the skinny VFL kid a little early. Any doubts are erased though when there is a collective ‘oh wow’ as Fritsch floats (seemingly literally) in front of 2 time AA defender, Harry Taylor in the first quarter of his first game and pulls down a ripper (29 secs into vid below). There is a bun fight on here as every poster rushes to be the first to compare Bayley to Robbie. After a just a few more games we add another year to his contract tying him to the Club till the end of the 2020 season. He finishes the season with a 16/7 win/loss.

Having watched the two finals again recently they certainly weren't his best games - he looked a bit slow, turned the ball over uncharacteristically and had little impact in games where the team was performing well. As I said, not what he had been producing for most of his debut season and maybe things just started to catch up on him and he was physically drained

I think he is very gifted, has worked hard to earn the opportunity he now has. Far too early though to be speculating about AA - my concern is whether he has the wheels and pace for a wing position - I suspect this is something that he has been trying to improve over the summer and it will be interesting to see where he fits into the team this year - competition for most spots seems more intense than ever at this stage

Bailey didn't look physicslly shot in the VFL Grand Final as he was clearly our best . It was a tall for a tall (well medium Tall for us Joel).

This is also an interesting side issue of playing Pruess and Gawnie plus Weid and Tommy. The dilemma other sides may face if our selection and all players succeed and we win the majority of games.

IOW it forces them to respond to our height! OR NOT and face any consequences!

Time will tell and Bayley should play wing or forward with his skills.

I think on that day, most of the side were stuffed, couple of exceptions, of course,  but emotionally and physically the side as a whole had run their race.

I posted on here last year that the jury was out for Fritta (in my opinion).  I see all the qualities that everyone has listed above.  But, I'm going to ask the jury to wait until the end of 2019 before delivering their verdict.  He will get extra attention this year, so I'll be interested to see how he handles that.  In some ways I'd like to see him lock down a position this year, but in many ways, the fact that he hasn't is a strength too.

FWI, I don't mind being on my own in the minority with this view!  I haven't dismissed him - how could I?  But I'm still unsure how long his career will be.
