Go and get Gaff!

I think Gaff’s defence made a mistake arguing provocation as part of its case. Much better had he thrown himself on the mercy of the Tribunal.

I don't like it as a defence but I think it's reasonable to explain his actions.

I can give a guy 6-7 weeks who didn't aim for the head and was trying to whack a player in the chest who was blocking him out of the play.

I'd have to give someone 10+ who randomly walked up to any old opponent and aimed straight for the head.

In my mind the vision is reasonably conclusive that it was the former not the latter but it's his job to explain it.

If he's made an error it's asking for 3 weeks or half the 8-12 range. I would've stated that 6-8 with a discount for a good record and guilty plea back to 5-6 would most likely see a result of 6-8. Asking too low just insults the intelligence of the jury.

Again, that is true.  I was referring to Gaff's reaction (none too happy with Simmo) and how it might affect his decision to stay or go.

I read differently, the coach tried to refocus him on the game, I didn’t think Gaff was upset by that.

My feeling is he’s more likely to stay. Alternatively, if WC handled him in the same manner we did Bugg, then I think he’d go.

Even down to the 4 votes, I think they’ve played this ruthlessly.

TBH I think a fairer penalty would've been to rule him out for the season, whether that be 5 or 7 weeks, missing finals with your team a live chance is very harsh. Tribunals should have the power to enforce a time sanction not just a week sanction.

Oh well, 8 it is. Just think he'll now have to sit between 1-3 weeks next year when he would've served enough time this year.

There's no need to overtly punish the individual. Gaff knows what he's done.

There's no need to deter the rest of the comp. It's happened once in nearly 200 games this season.

Interesting that it was at the low end of the penalty spectrum requested by the AFL.

Cynicism prevents me from delving further

Gaff's lawyer wanted as low as 3. AFL wanted as high as 12. They usually split the difference with these things. 8 is a fair whack and feels right to me. Deservedly two weeks worse than Bugg.

And yeah, that reflects [censored] awfully on Simpson if Gaff told him he didn't want to be on the ground and it was ignored. What the actual [censored], do the Eagles not have any ethics? Pathetic, especially considering the margin was so heavily in their favour.

Shithouse people management from a coach.

Think it was way too light...

The AFL want to be a community leaders in all sorts of PC issues but not in its own affair. The exact same as the drug saga.

If a player did this this in the VAFA or another league what would be the expected punishment. Gaff should of received the same.

With Gaffs ultra clean record this is ridiculous. Two weeks would have been fair considering the low impact jab on a serial pest but eight is plain crazy. When I saw young Francis of Essendon get a 2K fine for a stock standard bump earlier in the day I thought Gaff might get screwed too.

More than Hall which is a tick and if something happens like this again (and I certainly hope not) it will go up again in an increment.

And related/not related I said this to a mate on FB;

Out of this whole Gaff thing, I hope one thing the AFL starts doing is suspending players for jumper punches and hitting people in the guts. Seeing players on their knees spewing and no sanction sets up retaliation (and yes the retaliation is just as wrong and the offender deserves everything they get). Deescalation should be important too.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
