Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

This is the first off season where I have barely given footy a second thought. Not just due to being extremely busy with life and work, but I guess because the older I get the more I try to separate footy from life. Being a Melbourne supporter is tough,  emotionally and mentally and the way we ended last year just about broke me. So I’ve tried to not think about footy and where I think this season will take us. I’m going to go into this season with tempered expectations... at least until we win a match and then the lid’s off!

And as much as I’m not expecting a lot, I’ve still upgraded my membership and have kept September clear.... because if the last 2 seasons have shown us anything it’s that premierships are more gettable than ever. Do I think we can win the flag? Yes. Do I think we will? No.

We should be better then last year, everything points to a good year, we can improve and still go no where, something is going to go wrong, and many things will go well.

I believe the gut detox plan I went through has worked to some extent, mind you, it's lasted 6 months.

Looking back through last year and not just the finale of it, many MFC supporters would head home just as spent as the players after games.

There were numerous times (too many in fact) we experienced emotions (anger, fear, disgust, happiness) in the one game.

Out of all our wins, it was only the one game (Bulldogs) where we controlled the match from start to finish.

Some don't like to dwell on the past, that's fine, but it's still fresh for some and that's fine too.

One thing is for certain though, it's the fact MFC supporter stomachs have been seasoned for a very long time.

Enjoy " The calm before the storm" and what's one more season hey?

We must get 80k to Queens bday this year, it needs to be a guaranteed crowd puller along with the other standalone games.

It will depend on how well Collingwood are going 'Gonzo', if they're up and about then we will get 80k easily.

They are a fickle group though and drop off quickly when things are going bad.

I'm hoping the failures of Freo, North x 2, Round 23 and not putting the foot on opposition throats when needed burns.

If it does and the list matches its talent with desire and hardwork. We will be top 6 IMO, maybe higher if everything goes well.

If the playing group just thinks it will happen we will wake up a third of the way through the season playing catch up like the 05 Dogs and 06 Cats

To ease my increasing sense of growing depression, reading this thread, l have decided to pack my bags and head out for a long drive to Casey fields to watch our young and often very courageous women strut their stuff in red and blue.

This is not AFL nor is it ever likely to be but there are 2 teams each wanting to win, any way they can.

Just as it is in life, outcomes are uncertain but effort can be applauded. The suburban footy atmosphere is great for both players and fans.

As for our boys? Their opportunity to prove to the sporting world what they are made of, is close at hand. The question to be answered is are we reaching onwards and upwards in our quest, or merely clutching at straws?

In my view, we are much more likely to win an AFLW flag, than we are the other one.

Sad but likely true.

I’m trying desperately to temper my expectations this year, last year hurt a heck of a lot. But at the same time the wait has been long and the list is getting better. I want to be excited but I don’t know if I want the heart in mouth sick feeling at games as much this year.

Ah well, let the chips fall where they may..

Cassandra was a prophetess who was always right but never believed. So if you really are Cassandra, please prophesy that the Dees will win the next 6 flags ...

Despite the pathetic efforts to end last season, I'm confident the players will stand up and we'll be playing finals in 2018. Realistically we should be aiming for top 4, but finals is a benchmark considering we haven't partaken since 2006.
- Our list IS top 4-6 in terms of quality.
- We are now stable off-field from a financial perspective.
- We now have good training facilities and more money than ever being poured into coaching and fitness staff.
- We have more supporters and members than ever rocking up to games and shelling out the cash to support.

If we fail to make finals in 2018 I'd consider it our biggest failure of a season since 2007. We're now 5 years into the Roos rebuild (of the rebuild, of the rebuild...) and barring major injuries to every single one of our key players, there is literally no excuse not to play finals this season. Top 4 is a successful season. Finals is a pass mark. Anything lower is an utter catastrophe.

I remember listening to a radio broadcast of a Melbourne game back in the wretched Neeld days.  Roos was the commentator and he was ripping into prematch comments by Neeld that the rebuild of the club would take 5 years.  Not the message to be sending to the fan base said Roosy, the king of positivity.  As much of an idiot Neeld was.  He was right.  And Roosy knew it.  Still though when you are angling for something you angle.

A bit like this bloke who was much maligned in his time at the Dees!

Ah, what might have been had he been given a sustained go

Everyone keeps telling me what a great list we have, and that we should push for the top 4, but I find it so hard to feel genuinely optimistic.

I guess it's because of the persistent heartbreak we've suffered over the last 53 years.

One thing I am optimistic about, is that once we have some good seasons,it will start a positive feedback, of more supporters, more members, less home game sales, more Friday night games, and a better deal from the umpires, due to more Demon crowd pressure.

A lot depends on injuries, and emergence of some players to elite level.

I'm worried already Jack. We play Norf in the first practice game!!!!!!

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
