Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

These are the sort of comments I place little weight in.

It may or may not be true and is very open to interpretation.

Why on earth go on a so-called boot camp? Knock yourselves out boys, show me you're a man. Novices to the British army did boot camps. So did Borstal boys. We hopefully have a fine-tuned training/rehabilitation program already in place. No need for this type of macho [censored].

Couldn’t agree more max.

Its a load of cap. We need ball skills and conditioning big time.

Players obviously worried about dropping bagfulls of bricks on their heads.

(posted that before reading the article which mentions that same incident)

Big time deja vu happening forme - players cancelled training with Dean Bailey (ref Jim Stynes book).  Look where that got us!

On any level this does not sit right:

  • This camp would have taken weeks/months to schedule and organise.  Were the players not consulted/told about it till last week?  Doesn't sound like two-way communication was happening.  Did the leadership group not sass out the players earlier?  How did it come to this.
  • Other clubs walk the Kokada track - now that is gruelling.  Referring to Tyson and Salem last year is irrelevant.  Injuries can happen at any time - just ask Petracca who did his ACL simply going for a mark.  But we go weak at the knees at a few days at a boot camp.  Sheesh!
  • We finally ditched the 'bruise free football' label.  But last year we proved the 'mentally weak' label over and over again, right up to round 23.
  • Respect lost with 17 other teams
  • Club talks about being ruthless.  Given the chance to walk the talk and do something really tough the players back off.

I'm staggered the club allowed the players to call the shots.  So much for Goodwin's tough talk.

My expectations for 2018 have been jolted - backwards.

Sack them all. Whinging off the Union, what a bunch of sooks.

Are Jones and Viney really not going to support the coach?

Clarry would turn up. Gus Brayshaw's brother is in the Army, is he going to sook off. The mature age players desperate for a game aren't going to go?

If Salem doesn't want to go because he can't pack a backpack or if Tyson is worried about his precious knee then he and any of the others can stay home.

My view last year was that it wasn't a good idea and I still believe that to be the case.

Interesting that despite comments to the contrary it appears the players were not that enamoured with it at all.

You can't have outsiders with too much control.

Need more info

On face value, it paints a terrible picture.

Who the hell are the players to cancel AYTHING?

Nope, just read the article. Bloody hell our mob are soft.

Disgraceful that they pulled the Workplace Health and Safety line.

Disgusted.

It's not as simple as this 'Dee'...

I'd make it that simple. I'd run the camp for those who want to do it and let Misson do what he wants with the others. If that puts a rift between players and coaches I'm fine with that. Too much focus on unity. I like conflict and I like coaches and players putting their reputation on the line.

Surely the camp would be modified this year to prevent injuries. Salem's was a freak injury and Tyson's angst I believe was that it aggravated an existing injury.

But the other aspects - sleep deprivation, team work, whatever the other challenges involved - if the coach wants the players exposed to that he should have it.

Wise decision: stick to training hard on a footy field and actually improving skills and gameplan instead of this rubbish

It isn't about the training options for the last few days before Christmas.

It is about the poor communication between players/leaders and footy staff.

It is about taking players out of their comfort zones.

And more importantly it is about not allowing players to call the shots.  Slippery slope right there.  So what now - anytime a player(s) don't want to do so something,  go when it is their turn or whatever, they cry 'too hard boss'!!

Wow - deja vu all over again.

I can't believe this - it seems unavoidable that  i) we have a bunch of softies and/or ii) the coaches and the players can't communicate with each other and/or iii) there's no leadership (a long time lament)

I wonder that PJ think... wonder what Roos thinks...

How can we avoid the charge of being a joke of a club?

You don't know what the issue is with the players.

Mate, stick to the training reports. Either you'e trolling for reaction or you have no idea of way professional sports and duty of care principles work. I hope it's the former

That is true.

But one would think there would be negotiation with players on whatever the 'deal breaker' aspect of the camp was for them.  After all the article says:  "The club's football department was satisfied they had taken significant measures to increase the safety for players after last year's camp".  So the club had acted on some known issues.

Negotiating the activities at the camp is acceptable (not ideal).  But to boycott cancel the whole shebang.  I'm speechless and left wondering what sort of team are we?

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
