Essendon absolutely deserve to be there.... they won when it counted.

Seems they have pride in the jumper. We could learn a lesson from them.

I think we should look elsewhere for role models...

The same club that lost to Brisbane and has today barely squeezed past a side who lost its past two games by 104?

There were 4 points on offer in Round 23. Same as in the previous 22 Rounds.

Essendon doesn't "deserve" it any more than we do (if we make it) simply because they won in Round 23 and we lost.

If we make it, then we deserve it. If we don't make it, then we don't.

lol we lost twice this year to North.

Essendon's final percentage 106.5, it we had put the Lions to the sword last week we wouldn't be in this incredibly stupid situation.

I'm taking the pessimists approach, I think we're finishing 9th. But prove me wrong Adelaide!

Such logic.

Surely you're at the wrong website today? ?

I agree 100%. Unfortunately it is without doubt that Essendon decided their own finals future, but we didnt.

Typical Melbourne.

What if they lose then?

They wont. You are hoping for something that wont happen..

Yes, we did.

Neither team is that good. Your argument is simply that Essendon won the final game and therefore "deserves" to play finals whilst we lost the final game and therefore don't "deserve" to play finals. As if the criteria for playing finals is to win the final game.

A team deserves to play finals if it finishes the year 8th or higher. If that happens to us by 7.10pm, then we deserve it.

Don't avoid the question - of course they might. We just watched Freo come within a bee's knob of beating Essendon and nobody thought that would happen.

If West Coast lose today, do they deserve finals more or less than Melbourne?

Disagree. If we get in it will be because someone ELSE did the job for us. When we had a chance to decide own own destiny, we shanked it.

I personally will be embarrassed if we play finals because we dont deserve to be there.

I can't believe how many people think the same club that lost to us on their home deck is a lay-down misere to beat the ladder leaders. Of course it could happen, but my word. Oh wait, they BOTH lost to us on their home deck, so we're obviously the better side, and therefore deserve to make finals...

Not only do WCE have to win, they have to do it by 4 goals.

Sorry, i thought you were still talking about Essendon.

If WCE lose today, we still dont deserve to be there. Them losing will not make us more worthy regardless. Our finals participation will be by default only.

This is ridiculous, MFCSS rubbish.

If we get in it will be because we won enough games during the season, with enough percentage to finish in the top 8.

We could have won the first 12 games, or lost the first 10 and won the last 12 games, or some other combination. At the end of the season, it doesn't f*cking matter. If we finish 8th, then we deserve it by definition.

You can be disappointed we didn't take the chance given to us to control our destiny. You can be disappointed we all miss out on the euphoria of winning our final game and knowing we make finals because of it. You can be disappointed we didn't beat a non-finalist when we should have. All of that is legitimate. But this stupid argument that we don't deserve it if we make it is just that, stupid.

I know. Ding's position is even better - he actually *wants* that to happen so the players suffer, and prefers that over the alternative of being able to say "well we fell over the line, but at least we got there" so much that he is actually going to actively barrack for West Coast!

His stance is bemusing, and borderline funny because he is sticking with it even in the face of irrefutable facts.

Failed to fulfill the promise of his breakout six goal effort against the Tigers in 2023 and was generally disappointing as a key forward. It remains to be seen whether Simon Goodwin will persevere with him in attack or return him to the backline where he was an important cog in the club’s 2021 premiership success. After a bright start to the season, playing mostly in defence, Howes seemed to lose his way in midseason but fought back with some good performances at Casey and finished the year back at AFL level. 2024 Player Reviews: #33 Tom Fullarton

Originally an NBL basketballer with the Brisbane Bullets, he moved across town in 2019 to the AFL Lions where he played 19 games before crossing to Melbourne where he was expected to fill a role as a back up ruckman/key forward. Unfortunately, didn’t quite get there although he did finish equal sixth in Casey’s best and fairest award. Date of Birth: 23 February 1999 Height: 198cm Games CDFC: 14 Goals CDFL: 13

2024 Player Reviews: #10 Angus Brayshaw

Sadly, had to wrap up a great career in midstream on the back of multiple concussions which culminated in the Maynard hit in the 2023 Qualifying Final. His loss to the club was inestimable over and above his on field talent given his character and leadership qualities, all of which have been sorely missed. The son of former Demon Brownlow Medalist Shane, Taj added a further 16 games to his overall tally of games but a number were as substitute. He is slowly fitting into the team structure but without doing anything spectacular and needs to take further steps forward in 2025 for his career to progress. SLIP SLIDING AWAY by Meggs

It was a sweaty, slippery night at Cazalys Stadium, a tough slog with low scoring and missed opportunities.  The Hokball Hawks hung on to win by a goal and sit second on the ladder, relegating the disappointed Demons to, almost certainly, finals spectators.   We had to win this match. When news broke of late withdrawals of talisman Kate Hore and key back Gaby Colvin, expectations plummeted, and Demon fans despaired.  The bad news was the signature song of 2024, a season that’s
