Does Frost come back? I think T-Mac was very good in defence but could have used him forward.. Wagners dispoal was pretty woeful and he turned it over about as much as Frost. For me Frost has a bit more upside.

Oscar went off hurt in the last don't know what the issue was.

Saints now very tall but so slow or gassed.

We responded today & stood up when asked.

Forgot just how good Gus is what a solid game.

James Harmes has come on and straightened up - our unsung hero.

Mr. Negative here,

Glad we won, but we were shithouse.

StKilda were just much worse.

The forward entries still a major concern, players bombing away when they should be looking around.

Pedo, well done, puts that ridiculous Pederson vs Weideman debate to bed.

Brayshaw, a great return game.

Hannan clutch.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

MOAR BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOS.!!!

I know this might sound offensive to some, but let's reset for a minute and cheer on the Pies vs Port. Yes you'll feel dirty but you can have a thorough wash afterwards. Come on Pies, do it for figgy, and us :D.

Correct Fire!! I'll be barracking for them ...... then I'll give myself a sound flogging later.

Harmes was amazing in that first qtr. Didn't even have an opponent I reckon.

Pederson was industrious and reliable. One of his best games.

Lewis' best game in red and blue. BoG for me. He actually committed to the contest a lot more. He must be able to smell September.

Hannan was invisible in the first 3 qtrs but grabbed his moment.

Forgot how good Brayshaw is. So much more composed now and his kicking was elite.

A few negatives though:

Petracca is badly out of form. He almost does things. Reminds me of his first year.

Weid looked slow and not AFL ready. Laid some good tackles but couldn't commend much at all. 1 game in the VFL for Watts might not be enough though. I'd like him in ripping form before coming in.

Wagner was sub standard. Salem would come straight in if he didn't get suspended.

Garlett had Geary which could explain his quiet game.

This game was the perfect example of our season, its the reason why we are  7 and not top 4, we dont finish off teams, we don't  have a killer instinct.

Yeah true but.....this game was also an example of the difference that is emergingggg of a team that DOESNT stop playing when the other side starts to come at us, UNLIKE  the team that Melbourne has been for the last 10 years.

Gutsy selections from Goodwin and it absolutely paid off. Deserves a lot of credit.

Gus...yes

The others....Nope

Keeping Pederson in was a good move and Hannan saved his game with those two goals but otherwise was ineffective

Don't think any of the "statement ins" made much of an impact though. Gus was building and was likely to come in for Maynard. The move of Tmac back steadied us. Wagner and Weid were underwhelming to say the least.

Rather surprised to see that no one has mentioned the fact that with this win we have surpassed our 10 wins last season. We have officially improved.

Just got to the Doutta Gala for a few quick victory pints before heading home.

Super pleased to say the least.

It was clear for me it was more about having 22 players hunting with intense pressure, and although Wagner might not be as clean, or Weidemann doesn't get much of it, I thought the pressure around the ground was a lot more even.

The last few weeks, Watts has been a weak link in that pressure game that we base our game on.

20,000 free Welcome tickets to many people from diverse cultures, many new to the game, on a sunny Sunday arvo at the home of football. And the Demons win. Great marketing which hopefully converts a few to Aussie Rules & just as importantly to the MFC.

Yeah.   The omissions and the message it sends could help get the season back on track.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
