If that's what you meant, then I did. It's this line that threw me "but you think it was an even playing field?"

All gd mate, I think we're all worked up over this whole debarcle, waited so long to be on a friday night and they go and deliver a win on a silver platter for the COLA specialists.

Oliver would have been on earlier if Swans kicked straight.  Rotations usually happen after goals, or when there is a stoppage is on the wing near the gates. The ball didn't leave their 50 for so long, that no rotation was 'possible' under the rotation rules.  Players often get caught on the bench for longer stretches than planned due to this.

To me that is the issue - that rotations are locked into set plays and the rules are self imposed and inflexible.

You would think when a key player is stuck on the bench the runner would go out to get at least a player over to the bench side of the ground to make the change.  There's a chance of a numbers mismatch for a minute but that seems a small risk if it means getting a key player on the ground.  Some flexibility is needed, I feel.

It's very clear that Sydney came in with a plan to target Gawn at every opportunity.  It's already been mentioned that he was kneed in the bollocks during a boundary throw-in.  On another occasion he was flattened three times trying to get back to the centre to take the bounce after a goal, the final one shaking him enough that he went off for a spell.  The umpires did absolutely nothing to curb this behaviour, nor the scragging of our ball-winners around the packs.  Once the Swans' midfield saw that they weren't going to get pulled up they went nuts trying to beat the hell out of our mids.

There is also the high hit on Mitch Hannan, again not even a free kick paid when he staggered away from the impact and collapsed.

I do have to wonder if the umpires' refusal to pull them up early in the game led to the Swans players increasing their level of aggression.  Maybe worth the club hitting up AFL house for an explanation?

Keep in mind this is all post-Bugg...

I don't like what Bugg did. He'll deserve to go for weeks.

But I can't help thinking of early Hawthorn under Clarkson - "unsociable football" - don't mind that tag too much.

But last night we got belted - we're not tough enough yet. When Max went down, no-one came back at them.

Bit of talk about now in the Casey thread - sounds like 4 is gonna be around the mark.

ive had it too... very frustrating injury.

Yeah and it can come back. Was it Robert Harvey that jumped off a high brick wall straight onto concrete so that he could snap the tendon that causes it? Think it was, not sure how hes walking these days tho...

True, but we all know the outcome if it doesn't work out.  If we deviate from the plan and we run someone off it could give them an extra number around the contest and potentially a scoring opportunity while Oliver tries to get towards the action.  If we had a few ball ups or throw ins on that side of the ground then it may have given him a chance, but we've got no idea who he was replacing and how they wanted to make it happen.

Swans kicking for goal was a bit of an anomaly so I don't think we can be too critical of what happened.

Driven to despair by a partial tear in his plantar fascia -- the tissue that runs from the heel bone along the foot to attach under the arch -- Harvey famously jumped repeatedly off his kitchen table to fully rupture the band in order to allow it to heal and him to return to the field. While hardly scientific, it proved an effective remedy and perhaps an inspiration for star Eagle Josh Kennedy in his own battle with the problem this pre-season

If that's what it takes I wouldn't be surprised to see Jack do it too! I definitely remember hearing about that.

Not sure if anyone watches the Sunday footy show; but apparently Matthew Lloyd gave us a massive bake. Had a go at Hogan, Lewis and Bugg for their hits and Clarry for his social media. Also said we had achieved nothing and we're arrogant and getting ahead of ourselves.

Didn't see it myself but apparently Tony Jones stuck up for us and things got quite heated.

We lost the 3rd q by 10 points     and the last by 5 pts

I don't think it was that bad for the side we had in

We were blown away in the 2nd

End of a horror run in regards to turnarounds, happy to be 3-1 after those 4 games. Happy to take that given our injury toll over that time as well.

If we can get 1-2 key players back per week over the next month, and not lose any more to injury, there is plenty to look forward to come the back end of the year!

Need to lock down Docherty, Gibbs and Simpson this week.

i didn't watch the replay for the first time this year, we need some energy coming into the side and some good luck with our run of injuries, I agree HBD we really need to pay very close attention to Docherty, Gibbs & Simpson this week. Go Dee's!!!

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
