As Weber so eloquently explained on another thread, if Garlett's hammy is back related and there's no strain or tear than he may play depending on his recovery/tightness.

For Gawn to say he should be OK is good news, because it means he's tight due it being a back related ailment, which at least gives him a chance.

What's the odds of us cracking 50k at the game this week

Sydney have a very strong Melb supporter base and with the Dees flying I think it will push close to 60k

Am I being querulous by asking has Max's personal experience made him an expert on all things hamstring?

Here is hoping that he is ok, but ........

And back to the known facts, Salem's pain should be Wagner's opportunity.

Answer every challenge.

For those talking of replacements for Garlett (and possibly Viney), this from the article linked to in the comments above:

Gawn expected small forward Jeff Garlett (hamstring) to be fine to face the Swans and he doesn't expect courageous co-captain Jack Viney (shoulder) to be in any doubt either.

"He'll need his shoulder off the bone to miss a Friday night game," Gawn said.

I wouldn’t trust Gawny on anything injury related. He reckoned he himself was right to go nearly a month ago.

MCG expecting 55k this week

Gonna be more. Just got tickets in AFL Members.

Level 1 outside - Allocation exhausted

Level 2 - Allocation exhausted

Level 2B - Allocation exhausted

Level 3 - Allocation exhausted

Managed to get 4 tickets level 1 under cover but they are going fast. AFL Members will be full. I suspect they have been snapped up by Swans members. AFL Members tends to be full of international supporters but I've never seen it snapped up so quickly. IMO we're looking at 65k.

Yea afl members should be a lot of neutrals

Garlett is very important this week or we bring in another quick.

The Swans defence is slow, if we move it in quickly at the G they won't be able to defend.

They ended up getting EFC on the smaller SCG when EFC fell into their game, same with the Tiges the week before.

Don't let them get set...

Misson just stated hogan is a sneaky chance this weekend!

Yep going by mission comments only out will be Salem and I think hogan might get up

If Hogan gets up, I would play Watts in the Salem role. You cant replace Salems silk and foot skills with any old player.

Unless they bring Wagner and play Hibberd in Salems role.

God damn Misson/Injury report video won't load for me.

Just spoke to an MCC staff member on the phone, expecting a huge crowd.

If Hogan does indeed play, it could bump it up further.

The bandwagon is well and truly on it's way.

I very much doubt that the AFL members will be full.

Just the pre-sale ticket area is full. Level 4 will be half empty as will level 1 near the Ponsford stand. You need crowds of 70k to see those areas filling.

The actual seating is updated on the AFL members site and at present it is showing general admission for AFL members as TBC

If they thought they were going to get a seriously large crowd they would make it a pre-reserved game only

Well after seeing Missons injury update

In -  Hogan, Watts

Out - Salem,  ??

No idea who would make way, as none of our talls deserve to be dropped.

I think we'll see changes based on the fact that this is our third six day turnaround and there'll clearly be some very sore bodies. Management is paramount. Obviously unlikely to be form-based.

It's a huge risk carrying too many sore players into a match, especially when it's not needed. I wonder whether or not Salem, Garlett and Hannan were all sore prior to the West Coast game and if them playing sore increased the risk of injury.

I don't want to see more go down on Friday night because we're not bringing in enough fresh legs.

All of JKH, Kent and Kennedy are playing high level footy in the VFL and Weeds just had a cracker game.

For me, Oscar was back to average. I thought of all our defenders, he again failed to kill balls in aerial contests and Petrie and McGovern were able to mark far too easily. Not saying he'll be dropped, but if Hogan and Watts play then Frost and T-Mac are the only two talls needed in defence imo. Unless Tippett comes back.

Looks like Hannan will be right with that hip. He has become really important with his pace, clean hands and good goal sense.

The selectors will make the call but no sore legs please, we need speedy fresh legs whoever might fit the bill.  We cannot afford to risk more injuries and we need fresh players in body and mind.

If someone told me at the start of the year that we would be playing in July without:

Angus Brayshaw, Jeff Garlett, Jesse Hogan, Nathan Jones, Christian Salem, Aaron vandenBerg, Jack Watts

I would have said we would be struggling.

Gee the rest of the team of stepped up. great stuff.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
