And then he seemed to realise that it was he who had to do it. He had to kick the winner. At that moment, he seemed to slow down, focus on the goal, and steady himself. It was like the bomber in the Dam Busters knowing that he had just one attempt and he simply had to hit the target. Civilisation depended on it.

And he nailed it!

A truly seminal moment in his career. A truly memorable footy moment for the rest of us.

I still get nervous watching it on replay, which I have about 350 times.

2 interstate trips coming up and 2, 6 day breaks, so lets keeps things in perspective for the moment.  While trying not too, I can't help comparing our journey so far this year, with Bullies of last year.

And as for the whingeing filth supporters, re the umpires, most of us on here have seen us on the receiving end of crook decisions this year.  What goes around, comes around.  Even Buckley said things even themselves out over the duration ............. and that's not too mention the substantial lead they let slip.

But please, for once Dees, let's look at playing a full, 4 quarters.

He does not get enough credit for his fantastic gut running. There were a number of examples yesterday and that is despite him being treated for back spasms during the game and coming in with a dodgy ankle. There was the the obvious examples where he ended up being involved in the play (once where hit the post from a set shot, the winning goals and getting back to for winning touch on the line).

But i have no doubt there were many other examples where he didn't end up with the ball. I say this because TV sucks for watching players and live his gut running is really evident when watching form the top of the Ponsford as i do when i go.

Gary was a fair full back in his time.

What a moment that Watts sealer was though. Brilliantly encapsulated by @Ron Burgundy. Far better than what Hamish could muster up.

I too have lost count of the number of times I've watched the replay. Emotional stuff. Redemption looked like it tasted very sweet.

You can listen to the last 5 minutes of the game with 3AW. Tim Lane's commentary is brilliant and I got goosebumps listening to the Watts goal.

Haha me too the Watts goal I've now watched a couple of dozen times, and I admit I have always been a fan. Something I noticed in his face after he kicked it was different though. Look closely at his face, it wasnt just boyish joy, it was far bigger and deeper than that...

I was lucky enough to be sitting right behind it.  As Watts ran in he slowed right down, balanced himself before he kicked and it was like an arrow.  There was not the slightest bend on it, straight over the goal umpires head.  I knew he'd done it the moment it left the boot, it was pure.

Coaches often talk about courage and the courage to run when you're spent.  Watts was remarkable in this respect yesterday.  One wonders if the training camp they went to before Christmas was the genesis of that ability - to just run when you can't.

Great moment for Jack, great moment for every Melbourne supporter and I suspect a great moment for all football supporters other than the Pies.

He has the midas touch and everything he does impacts the game. How often would a 18 possession, 3 goal game be a unanimous best on ground?

His impact on the contest is amazing. Just wait til he really heats up.  A 30 possession, 5 goal game will come soon enough.

Loved his game, but I was flabbergasted Watts didnt get a single coaches vote!!  I dont give a rats what Buckley thinks but surely Goodwin recognised the impact of Watts?

Wonderful win but playing like that will not see us win many if any of the next three games. Collingwood are an ok side and played up to near their best yesterday but they are not in the same league as our next three opponents should they come out to play.

The midfield needs to lift and dominate the game if we are to avoid our defence being cut to ribbons.

I was fuming at OMac in the first quarter and I'm not usually one to crack it at our players at the game. I don't care so much about hacks out of the pack, but some of his efforts to get to the contest was definitely lacking.

Definitely wasn't great for all 4 quarters. First quarter I felt the occasion got the best of him, second quarter the defence was under siege so I'll give him that as it's difficult to rate a defenders game under such pressure. 

Second half he was a different player, like most of the team. He wasn't the only one to make errors early, Lewis, Jetta, and Vince made some howlers as well.
