How do we typically play off a bye? If we're slow starters most matches then i fear that we'll be asleep again in the first as we 'dust off the cobwebs' on our game style.

It's a concern.

Elliott, Goldsack,Wells & Greenwood all likely to be out.Maybe things turning our way. Also first time in awhile not facing a team on the rebound. Be great if Hogan played!

Massive outs. Especially Elliott. He has single handily transformed their forward line.

Yep! That will resonate throughout dees training  this week!  What a stupid [censored]!

Will it though? I felt a big wave of indifference pass through me when I read it.  I thought it just made him sound like a total moron, especially when you look at his 'success' record as highlighted by Scythe above.

Pies midfield has been very good the last month. Wells and Goldsack out is a huge boost for us, not to mention Elliott.  If Greenwood misses too, we will win comfortably IF we turn up to play.

This is one of those games where we can make a statement and take our chances to jump back in to the 8.... or we can do what Melbourne always does when presented with an opportunity... capitulate.

Just feels like a complete set up for us to balls it up!

We will go in as favorites, everyone will tip us, the team will expect to win and BOOM, pies win by less than a goal after a 3qtr time come back from us. Story has already been written.

Now that I have got all the negativity out in the open the opposite SHOULD happen.

Garry Lyon on SEN said his sources say no Hogan or Gawn for Queen's Bday this morning. I was hoping for one or both.

Would have thought Spencer the most likely tbh.

Adams said that Dunn had not played in "a real successful club and was loving it at Collingwood". Dumb but shouldn't make a difference. Why say it though? Mind u, wouldn't be happy if one our blokes had done the same.Reminds me of Dawes saying that the Hawks were 'ripe for the picking'. We got smashed.

Stupid because Dunn hasn't but neither has Adams. Not too sharp.

Is there any update on Spencer.

The King was missing for Casey yesterday and their replacement ruck Gach Nyuon went down around half time. It must be  a special strain of the Norm Smith curse that is targeting big men this year.

Agree, arguably their most important player. Wells out robs them of a bit of class as well. Sounds as if Goldsack is definitely out as well.

Leaving aside my obvious subjectively, if you look at this game objectively it sets up very well for a win for the dees, and possibly a big win. Collingwood are a youngish side, travelling back from WA (albeit with an 8 day break), have some key injuries, have been 'up''for a few weeks and playing on emotion and are coming off a tough game where they played a man short for a big chunk of that time and expended a lot of emotional energy.

Collingwood are also probably looking forward to the bye to freshen up, whilst we are coming off a bye and should be fresh. You'd think that the big crowd and big occasion of Freeze 3 at the G will help them avoid a sluggish start. Added to that, yes they are coming off three wins in a row but all all against pretty average sides.  If we get going early i can see us winning pretty well. I haven't looked at the line yet but if i was setting it i would have it as the dees +27.

I just checked the line is at +8 so great value in my opinion as is the +40 at 4.50

Only passing mention in despatches. Back training...drill work , non contact atm. Others suggest that might just have been nature of training ( not protecting as such )

Thinking we'll know early this week which way it might go. Handy game on mon not sat...might be the difference.

Collingwood still beat Freo with all these injured players on the bench.  When they play us they will have replacements.

Was my first thought also.

Second thought was....we couldn't

More likely the positioning of our midfield as worst and theirs as best by champion data at the start of the season will give our guys a little nudge.

Don't think that would sit well with Viney, Jones, Oliver and co...

It's a good point, but that said, I've often thought it hurts more the next week, especially as Elliott had probably done his damage by the time he got injured.  Wells had hardly touched the footy anyway.

During the game a team's arousal levels are already set for the day and the groove of the match won't usually be shifted (unless your number one ruck goes down before half time).

Starting a fresh game a week later without 3 best 22 players is a different ball game and imo will have an effect.

and we lost to 2 out of 3 of these average sides.

emotional big game, whoever goes in harder for longer will win imo

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
