Greatest / most memorable MFC goals ever

Ash35

Recommended Posts

Need help / suggestions.

Trying to put together some football highlight videos for Youtube.

One of them will be the top 40 MFC goals ever, maybe even a top 50.

I have got a collection together but I don't want to miss any really memorable goals.

So need suggestions, just to make sure I haven't missed any.

Any player, any era.

To maybe help narrow down suggestions, I already have the obvious ones, eg Farmer GOTY 1998, the Liam Jurrah sitting on his butt snap against Freo 2009. Woewodin vs Port 1998, Oliver 3 weeks ago in Adelaide.

I won't list them all, but happy for you guys to throw any suggestion out there.

Wonnameri in the goalsquare against Freo at the MCG, putting the Dees in front after trailing by 50 points.  I was at that game.

Gary Lyon kicked a 70m torp in the early 90's (I think).

Travis Johnstone, 2nd semi-final in Adelaide v Crows, streaming down the boundary on forwqrd flank, goaled from 50m.

Off the top of my head:

Flash's running goal and Yze's boundary goal from the comeback against Freo in 08

Schwarz's baulk in the 94 finals

The goal kicked in the 04 demolition of the Blues in 04 (Davey or Bruce?) after two blues ran into each other

Neita's goal against the Hawks in 02 after flattening McCabe

Jakovich's scissor goal from 91

Leoncelli's winning goal against the Crows in 01

Farmer's big goal from the goalsquare in the Semi against the Saints in 98

Two candidates. Saw both. Incomparable.

Hassa Mann's goal from the boundary at Glenferrie Oval to secure top position in 1964 finals.

Neil "Froggy" Crompton's goal in the last minutes of the 1964 Grand Final. Our last premiership.

Nothing else comes close except for Robbie's last goal against Sydney in the semi finals in 1987.

From memory, 1989 Princess Park in the mud v Hawks - GF replay. Kicked from 55m-58m mark, sailed through. Heavy track. I think just before or on qtr time siren.

No. 1 has to be Froggy's goal to win the 64 Granny.

My favourite, and I was 2 at the time and not even there, was Brian Wilson's running goal that was the sealer in Rnd 22, 1987. "Cover yourself in glory".

Gazza kicked a torp from the centre square in the 88 prelim against Carlton.

The wiz would have 30 out of 50.

There's also the massive torp he kicked from inside the centre square at Waverley against Carlton in the '88 Prelim (last passage on this clip), and this beauty against Fremantle at the 'G, also from inside the centre square.

Others worth a mention: Lyon again, kicking the winner against West Coast in the '88 Elimination (end of this clip), and Todd Viney from the boundary line in the opening seconds of the '87 Elimination.

Also like this one from Schwarz.

But the goal from Robbie at the 1.50 mark of this video is one of the best I've ever seen from an MFC player.

Was against the blues IIRC.

Wet day with a muddy ball.

Then he slotted one from the centre square with a new ball.

I can't remember the full set of circumstances but Travis Johnstone kicked an absolute beauty against Adelaide in the 2002 finals.

Aaron Davey selling some candy twice to Freo and nailing it from outside 50 in our massive come from behind win at the G is another.

Was definitely against the Hawks on a bogheap at Princes Park, Queens Bday 1989. I was at that game sitting up the top of the stands with my dad and I've got the game on DVD.

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res
