Jesse Hogan's Return

I posted this in the thread about his illness but don't like seeing that pop up so thought it nicer to start another thread to track his return. 

Goodwin says Jesse is recovering at home in Perth and will be back at the club next week then starts some training.  http://www.melbournefc.com.au/video/2017-05-21/rd-9-simon-goodwin-postmatch

We have a bye the week after he returns.  At that stage he will have played 4 games of 11 so may well have a run at Casey to get some match fitness back.  So maybe round 13 vs Bulldogs or round 14 vs WCE. 

Regardless of when Jesse plays again its great that he is recovering well and wants to get back to footy.

I hope like hell he is able to come back before then.  Horribly selfish of me, I know, especially considering the circumstances, but I was holding out hope that he would be back after the Pies game (or around about that mark).

Obviously I wouldn't begrudge him as much time as he needs, but from a football standpoint and knowing how competitive Jesse is, I can see him back in the side before then.

Sorry Wise, typo on my part!  I put in the date rather than the round.  The Bulldogs game is the round after the Pies game ie round 13 on June 18 and WCE is round 14.

I have amended my typo's!

No worries - I thought those games looked a long way off, seemed strange, but that makes sense!

And now I totally agree with you - the Doggies game would be fantastic, but it might end up being the Eagles game when he returns.

I hope everyone who said we play better without Hogan will now shut up. Even on a quite day you can still expect Hogan to kick your 3 goals and give us a target to kick to us forward.

The importance of Jesse is now proving in the games we've lost. I still get goosebumps what a 80 to 100 game Jesse Hogan could do.

The issues will be mental.  If Hogan can get back quickly conditioning will not be so much of an issue.

Both Gawn and Hogan could be back for QB. By god North showed us how badly we need out big men back.

Serious fans never took that line of thinking seriously anyway.  It was rubbish and yesterday was even further proof of that.  We can't get him back quickly enough.

Hogan had a ripping preseason so his conditioning will be good. Won't take him long to catch up physically.

Has a lot on his mind and he'll be aware of his needs and the support he's getting from family and the club.

I'm guessing he'd want to get back into the routine of playing footy with his mates.

Good to hear he is getting back to the club soon and is in good spirits.

I can assure you he won't be coming back through the 2's though. Just give him and extra week of training instead.

Would take a non match fit Hogan (as long as he is completely over his cancer) ahead of Oscar and Weid. Both are developing but not ready yet for regular AFL footy.

He will be back in 3 to 4 weeks I bet, seeing as he caught it early and it hasn't spread anywhere else it isn't such a big deal. Sounds weird talking about cancer in that way but I feel like it is true in this case

I was told that this particular operation has a sizeable cut in the groin rather than the sack. Aside from any mental issues Jesse may experience this is what will take the longest to heal and resume training.

I did not say Jesse should come back thru Casey.  Just saying that it is rare for a player to come straight in when he has played 4 in 12 games and the 4 weren't consequtive.  In similar circumstances players will often do a mini preseason including a reserves game.

I can't wait for him to come back but I just hope we don't rush him back. 

Looking after Jesse's wellbeing physical and mental is the most important thing no matter how desperate we or the club are for him to play seniors.

It may depend on him, he's a competitive beast but he might not want much fanfair for him getting back out on a footy field. A quiet introduction at Casey could be something he'd want instead. 

Personally I just want him back when he and the doctors feel he's good to go.

Hogan will ahead of schedule.  Wanted to play vs Adelaide after his diagnosis, and Goodwin says he cant wait to get back out there.

The surgery was minor, despite the seriousness of the diagnosis.

Queens Birthday vs the Pies will be the game.

Probably a blessing in disguise that Jesse has had the chance to spend some extra time away with family, i would love him to play asap but reality is if his head isn't in it yet there is no point rushing him back. 

Queens birthday seems a good aim but don't want to put a time frame on it

note i assume he doesn't require the additional RPLND surgery (which would make a major difference)
