Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

Just had a look at the ladder/upcoming games. Of the pack of 5 teams on 20 points above us, 4 play each other (rich v ess & dogs v st. k) and 1 (port) play a team above (geel).

We are a game clear of remaining teams below.

So IF (note, I F) we can win in the desert, we could go into the bye in 9th spot with % at 20 points / 5-5.

Im clutching at straws, right?!

Yep it's must win game this week or potentially season over, swans are right behind us and should win this week

Said it when everyone wanted him dropped... We need Melksham in this team badly.I don't care what his faults are, he can kick a footy and hit targets. Which Oscar, Tom, Frost and Wagner can't.

Watts, Salem, Melksham, Hibberd and Lewis are the only guys I am confident will hit a target majority of the times they kick the ball.

I think we need to drop Weideman.
"We need him in because he is a tall"

Did he take a contested mark all day? no point having a tall if he cant mark, might as well bring in someone who will halve the contest and be quick whilst going to ground.
Harmes should be in for Weid. (Yes Harmes is a backman but hes a tough body who is better than Weid.)
Kent out for Stretch (NFI why Stretch hasn't been playing)

and he couldn't make the distance from a 35m set shot at the city end

everyone seems to keep saying he is going to be good with longer development but i haven't seen much evidence of that. i checked hid tac stats for the 2 years he played tac and his figures were pretty minimal. makes one wonder why he was so well regarded at the draft. i'm getting a little bit nervous he might be a bust. i hope i'm wrong because one of our big problems is a real lack of tall kp players

I am also concerned.

Has some smarts but lacks athleticism.

Brown showed yesterday the importance of a key forward who plays in front, leads and can kick long goals. None of ours can do that. I suspect Weed got some extra mileage in the TAC due to his pedigree.

Think we have to play Weed next week as his replacement is either injured, too short or average at VFL level.

Once Hogan and Gawn/Spence come back he may return to VFL for a while. He'll get further opportunities to play alongside Hogan this year, just not every week.

Good god I hope they keep Pedo in.

Things that need to be considered:

The Weideman experiment

The attitude of Kent

The wastefulness of Bugg

Watts looking tired and lacking intensity

I'm a Weideman backer, but he's not going the things we want him to do.  How many times did he not make the contest and allow them to mark it easily?  It's not his fault, he's just not ready.  We might be better off without him.

Kent is in a little trouble, too.  Harmes may come in for him.

Buggy was alright and should hold his spot IMO.

WB

As he (weed) is the one required to do 'whatever' and doesn't/can't it essentially is his fault.

I agree he isn't ready

out: Kent, Wagner

In Melksham, Kennedy.

Bugg lucky but at least he got himself into scoring positions.

Kennedy deserves a go after consistent VFL form and has shown he can apply good tackling pressure unlike kent.

Melksham for Wagner , can play same role down back but can also have runs in midfield or forward

I wouldn't be against giving Mitch King a run.. He's had a few games back now & was in the best for Casey on the weekend, my one concern is his ability to run out a game but playing him will allow Tmac to return to defence & allow us to play Pedersen more forward which we need a marking option up forward

There would be little expectation on him other than having a red hot go. Just do it.

A few of our 'bigs' are looking a little sore at the moment. They say playing in NT is quite slippery so we can drop one key tall. Oscar and Weid have been poor all year.

Weid in particular was average last week and poor this week. Don't buy that he played well last week. Shouldn't have been selected by the match committee. Also looks like he is carrying some leg soreness.

Bugg showed some fight so we should give him another week despite some negatives.

Kent has been good in the past but this year he is clearly no superman. He pulled out of 1 contest which will be highlighted by the coaching staff. Would like to see if he can fire up and redeem himself this week knowing everyone will be watching him closely.

We probably need change given some are looking tired and playing in the NT can be draining. So Melkshem and Harmes (held over as emerg) I would think are guaranteed a game given their solid VFL performances. Would like to see Stretch get a run. Out is Weid, Wagner, and a surprise omissions to shake the team up.

Brown is also 25   and has played 60 odd games    Vs   Weid who is 19 and played what 10 games?    I don't know what you expect?    And just as an aside where do we find another tall KPplayer from our cupboard is a bit bare at the moment.

Unless we go for something from left field - e.g. Petracca to FF then Weid stays. There's no-one else. Hulett has been playing mainly at half back this season -not all that effectively and you would think Bull needs at least one game at Casey to test out his ribs & get a bit of confidence. As someone else suggested it would be good to see him stay deep & lead hard to the 30-40 metre mark. He doesn't yet have the tank to play a roaming CHF role

ANB in for Bugg who is just not quite up to it. I'd have dropped him after last week despite his two goals

Melksham in for Kent. Not a Melksham fan but I'd like to see what he can bring to a HF/wing role before declaring him a bust. Could find the goals at his old club. Kent showed exactly why he's been dropped in the first place and that unfortunately, he didn't learn from the experience.

I'd like to see Stretch back in as well as I think he makes us better & look forward to reading Plapp's assessment of his game on the weekend. Unfortunately given our luck with the MRP, I think Salem may well cop a week

We haven't had one who can do those three basic key forward fundamentals since Neitz. How long has he been retired?

Not singling you out Demon1858 but we go through this every year on here about this. There is a difference between Alice Springs & Darwin... It will be fine & 28 in Alice on Saturday. It's Darwin that's humid & slippery, just thought I'd throw it out their before everyone goes on about it

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
