A big fish

Roos has written an article linking Swans decline with Buddy's signing.

Got me thinking about the value of signing a big fish and questioning whether that would benefit our path forward.

I've often bemoaned our lack of A graders, particularly in the midfield. 

We have some great young players coming through.

Would we be better with Fyfe or Dusty or an A grade tall in 2018?

Thoughts?

Save our cash for Gawn, Oliver, Petracca, Hogan, Salem, Hunt etc etc

They will all field huge offers from other clubs when they are out of contract next.

In the not to distant future an out of contract petracca, Oliver, gawn, hogan, hunt etc might well be considered big fishes, we just have depth of talent

I reckon you'd have to go back to the 70s and 80s when clubs wholesale raided the WAFL and SAFL for their stars. Blight, Glendinning, Kernahan, etc.

Now consider how many clubs have landed big fish and haven't gone on to win any more than they already were.

There are plenty more of those, by far.

Maybe it works the other way ... some Geelong supporters can possibly be as clever, insightful and handsome as Melbourne supporters.

This.  Our biggest glaring weakness is key backs.  We need someone to take the big forwards to free up Tommy Mac and Frost to be more attacking.  May can do this easily and whilst Lever's body is still developing, he's adaptable and his decision making is excellent

If you can find one player that can beat 22 on his own then pay the man. If they can't, invest your money in building a championship team instead.

Overspending on one player in the AFL is short sighted when you have a hard salary cap. A soft cap (NBA), or no cap (MLB) doesn't matter as much. 

I will stick with the Dees current approach.  I like the roster and the developing talent we have.
