It seems clear that if he leaves he is coming home to Vic. Lucifer's Hero makes a good point about Lynch ending up staying at the Crows despite many saying him leaving was a fait accompli.  So despite the loud jungle drums it its not a done deal he is leaving the crows. But jeez if you putting a bet on it you'd land on him going.

If the last point is true surely the dees would be a more attractive option than either the dogs or pies (who seem to be the other key suitors)  given we are close to our premiership window. Dogs have had their flag and will struggle to get another any time soon. Who knows how far away the pies are but they have a fair bit of rebuilding to do and the situation with Buckley and the review wouldn't make a potential recruit very comfortable.

I agree with those that say we shouldn't be paying too much above market rate. and i doubt we will, so the pies might well out bid us. We have a range of other needs, in particular at least one more mid who is an elite user of the ball and a really good second ruck option as Gawn going down exposed our vulnerability in this area (king might come good, but seems a fair way away).

But in addition to his ability to play the intercept role really well and to fit into our system i like lever's ball use. Not sure if it is elite but not far off. Also goody values flexibility and i reckon Lever with his marking ability could thrive up forward when/if needed and perhaps also as an occasional ruckman.

It wasn't so much Max going down that exposed us, it was Spencer! No idea how King is going but we also have Filipovic who is a few years off yet. If we can keep Spencer around until Filipovic is ready then we should be fine. The chances of loosing two ruckmen is pretty low, for it to happen twice would be astonishing.

Agree, to an extent. We were bloody unlucky that is for sure. But despite encouraging signs at the beginning of the season i still have doubts about spencer. Also ideally we have a player who less a straight back up but also can sometimes play in the same side as gawn. It would have to be a pretty mobile player who can play in various positions. King might fit this bill. But i can't see Gawn and Spencer ever playing together.

But you're probably right - perhaps we can cover it until Flip and king come on.

A star key backman is the final piece of the puzzle for us.  This would be huge.

MFC 2017 1st round pick +  MFC 2018 1st round pick

for

Jake Lever and Adelaides 2017 2nd rounder

Id then like to see us trade back into the first round as I feel sorry for Jason Taylor who is being starved of 1st rounders to weave his magic with on draft day.

SEN also reporting Lever talking to Melbourne officials..

I heard a whisper of this a few months back, but had no solid source. So i didn't post anything.

Will be great if he is running off half back next season

They will surely want a player. Need to trade for Lever and as an exciting young talent surely they would expect something of similar ilk back. They need mids and thats what we have, remember they wanted gibbs last year. Why are people assuming this will get done with picks?

Thats the deal that I could see getting it done but Id go for the 2018 2nd rounder back. Next year draft a lot stronger than this year. The 2nd round this year not going to be much quality available.

Don't think the price will be that steep, something like ANB (from SA out of contract) and our 2nd rounder would get the deal done.

I reckon Frost is part of the deal. It's the only plausible reason he would have put contract negotiations on hold till the end of the season.

Frost, who would be around the mark of their best 22 without Lever, and out first round pick this year would easily get it done.

I think they'll want a pick and a player.

And I doubt we'll be keen to ship off both first rounders

2017 second rounder, 2018 first rounder and Alex Neal bullen

Adelaide will want a midfielder back because that's their one deficiency & our 1st round pick. Not sure ANB fits the bill the midfielder they'd want... Best case might be to get Carlton involved with Gibbs somehow

Beggars can't be choosers, if he nominates us then we would be Crazy to give up a 1st 2nd and a best 22 up and coming player. I wouldn't be at all surprised if ANB took a similar trajectory to what matt crouch has this year next year. This trade doesn't have to be a win-win, the time of dees fighting for scraps from other teams needs to end and part of been a destination club is bending the other teams over the proverbial barrel at trade time.

It's also important in the long run we keep our first round picks so as we can continue draft high quality players, we are still a long way from the top and more than 1 player from  been a flag contender, selling the farm is not the smart way forward at this point

Who is our defensive depth next year in case of injury or if TMAC stays fwd? Who helps Lever & Omac? Garland ?

Joel Smith and I believe Watts can be a very good back man.

Watts should have played spare man back v North last week instead of Lewis. I thought the coachs would have got that right but got it totally wrong. Watts is tall, a good read of play and foot disposal is A1. I think Watts can play a very similiar role to Jack Gunston. Gunston has been a gun down back. I suppose if we trade for Lever this will be his role...

Playing Devil's advocate....I don't want to lose him but...would you trade Weideman to Collingwood (probably looking for a tall forward) for draft pick + possible player for on-forwarding to Adelaide for Lever ?    We already have Watts, McDonald and Hogan as talls (when all fit) and we could also look at Omac going forward if Lever comes in.   It looks worse when on paper, as I think Weideman will develop into a very good player...

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th
