Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I'm not really a monachist, but I just want to know when the club will officially announce that JT has been nominated for a knighthood.

Could get the her majesty out here for her birthday game against Collingwood to do it in front of a packed MCC.  I'm sure the old timers would love it!

...she barracks for the MFC you know! 😜

Was selected in a GF side. I also think it’s a stretch to class his draft selection as a failure.

Mitch King as a young ruck is also excusable due to it often being a roll of the dice at that stage.

Even with a kid like Baker or Lockhart, there’s only 22 (23) spots available each week. Someone has to miss out.

JT’s track record is difficult to criticise.

Certainly not a big criticism but he’s now gone 0/4 on young rucks with King, King, Bradtke and Filipovic. They are a dice roll but you’d expect at least one of them to become a useful back up.

Home grown depth talls and speedy wingers are probably his two areas for improvement. If he nails those rolls of the dice his record would be just about spotless

She might even come if we can convince Meghan Markle to participate in the Freeze MND slide.

Selection of Ruckmen in the Rookie list is always going to be very speculative although Cox Jamar Jolly and Sandilands were ok.

I think this is an area were the players when selected must have a desire to become the best because they were overlook in the normal draft.

Tall players now have to become multi dimensional due to the modern ruckmen have now become the 4th midfielder not just tap ruckmen.

Love it. He’s definitely worthy of a knighthood in our eyes for contribution to the Melbourne Footy club.

A few that JT didn't nail or are yet to nail. Mostly late picks, I didn't look above 53. He has a tremendous success rate. Instrumental to our flag.

JKH  40
Billy Stretch 42

Weid 9
Mitch King 42
Hannah 46
Baker 46
Nietzsche 53

When I see those picks perhaps there is a strong case for bundling your 3rd and 4th round picks  and trading them for a pick < 40.

Good point, I would go so far as to say selection of ANYONE in the rookie list is speculative. Selection of rucks even in the main draft are often speculative.

I think that is what we have been doing the last few years.

2017: Picks 29, 31 & 37

2018: Picks 27, 33, 53, 56 & 75

2019: Picks 3, 12 & 32

2020: Picks 21, 22 & 34

2018 was the only outlier where we used 5 picks, which may have been to do with list spots and players we lost in 2017. Of those three above pick 40, Hore and Nietschke are gone and Toby Bedford was pick 75, who at this stage you would think may be on the chopping block at the end of 2022 (not having a crack at him it is just the way of list management).

Agree. The success rate within the top 30 picks has been the sweet spot.  Trading of players and picks has worked to try to get two and three picks within that range       .

JT has nailed these with stars within the “top 10” and then backed up with successful 2nd rounders.

Got to be happy with draft picks we picked up.

VAN ROOYEN: Great get considering he can play key forward and back. A lot like Petty but as Taylor has already said he will spend more time up forward.

HOWES: Was suppose to go in the top 20. To get him at 39 was a great get. Would love it if he was half as good as Gunstan who is a quality forward when fit, but he gonna spend more time in the midfield a string to his bow that Gunstan hasn't got.

WOEWODIN: Good father son pick up. If he can be half as good as his old man we will have a pretty good footballer on our hands.

MCVEE: Is the running half back I was crying out for. All Australian under 16 if he can find that form again we will have a good player on our hands.

MONIZ-WAKEFIELD: Another small forward mid who will keep the likes of Neal-Bullen, Spargo, Pickett, Bedford and Chandler honest.

Love JT what a recruiter he has been since crossing over from Collingwood, may his good judgement continue.

Lots of talls in next years draft apparently, might be the plan to trade in again and grab one

I reckon that's the plan we now have 1 Round 2 & 2 Round 3 & 4. We can bundle and get in first round. Very strategic

Daw is not a genuine ruckman.

Perhaps not, but like LJ, what you want them to do is compete in the contest.

As an aside, I thought Daw was a curious drafting decision due to his age, ability and past injuries.  Perhaps they wanted a familiar face for when Mac Andrew arrived.  Still, would have won us some brownie points at AFL HQ.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
