We need the young guns to fire, I know Oliver is going to (3 Brownlow votes coming up). Petracca and Brayshaw need to step up if we're going to win. We also need to taunt Weller, his eyes are too close together.

I know I've got mileage out of this before but, what the hell.

Mav says hello.

Buy her a membership and then present her with a Dees victory... Can't do much better than that, dazzle.

Absolutely pumped for today, but that also makes me nervous. I always try to temper my expectations as, more often than not, we would get rolled and then I wouldn't as disappointed. But I can't help it today. Go Dees!

I second this. My husband gets a Demons membership every Christmas - he supports the Pies.❤️?

A few things to remember before today's game:

Yes, the Saints will kick a goal at some stage.  There's no need to act like the world is caving in.  They may even kick two in a row, but that's no excuse to claim we're the 'same old Melbourne from 2013' and that 'nothing has changed'.

Yes, we will also make a turnover or two.  Every team does it, even the Doggies.  It's no need to act like a child and embarrass yourself on a forum.

If you can remember these two golden rules, not just for this game for the season ahead, then the game day threads won't resemble the sewer that it often does.

What are you trying to do Wise ruin the thread, I expect to read in no particular order representations of anger, bile, ecstasy, frustration, joy, despair, desperation, disgust etc and that's only on one page

I know the Comedy Festival is starting soon but can we also keep the uni revue humour to a minimum as well

I'm glad we're going in as clear under dogs vs St Kilda for the first time since 2013.

It's as if the players checked the odds prior to each game against them and accordingly gone in with big heads.

Saints into 1.67 now, with a line of 6.5pts.

I'm amazed people post on a game day thread when the game is actually on.  The last thing I think of doing is reading during the game let alone posting during the game.

I'm the only Melbourne supporter in the family since the old man passed away years ago, PD.  While it annoys me at the best of times it gives me a few Demon supporters to chat with during the game as I live too far away to make it regularly.

Feeling really relaxed today I'm sitting on the train and usually I'm nervous as hell heading into round 1, but today I'm feeling good it's very strange, hoping it's a sign

I hope the players are pumped too after Goodwin reads out the past 10 years honour roll to the players.

We must believe that our players can now do the job.

Before it was just hope against hell

let us not forget the past 3 years when Roos was bought in to "clean the place up"

money well spent.

Goodwin is under the pump from day 1

his "honeymoon period" is long gone

no one has had better training at top level coaching than Goodwin

I actually have Demonland open on my phone during games, even when I'm there. I like venting and cheering with the people on here.

I hope the positivity you have displayed for the past decade is finally rewarded. The you can proclaim you have been right all along and I will hang my head in shame for being the doubting Thomas.

I think your right maybe because the place is in such good hands there is less to worry about, we can just kick back and enjoy the ride

Im going along today. Not sure what to expect. A win would be awesome. Hope to see Watts continue his good from from last year, Maxy to dominate all over, Hogan to kick straight and I can't wait to see Lewis playing. Also no injuries please.

Oh and I hope Etihad have enough ticket booths open.

Lets appreciate that this season, for the first time in many years, we will go into every game believing we can win.  We have a team of competitive beasts and will give a contest every game.  We have the most talented team in the league not named GWS.

Lets get this party started.

If Paddy is out they may play Longer to help Hickey run Max ragged, as we don't have anyone else who has rucked since last August.

They probably subscribe to the theory 'beat Max, beat Melbourne'.

Or they bring in a runner and we match up ok height wise , they were real tall with mccartin .

I just realised that this is the first time in more than a decade where our opponent has had more Jacks on the field than us.

End of an era.

The stars are aligning. Last flag 64, I started following Dees in 64, I turn 64 this year, 6+4 = 10 years since we beat the saints.

Its my (our) turn.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
