I think Goodwin will opt for fit NQR's like Harmes and Neal-Bullen over underdone regulars like Tyson and Kent.

We've heard Roos say several times they rushed Brayshaw back from his knee in Round 2 last year against Essendon.  We lost the match and he never regained the match fitness due to the concussions in the VFL.  I think the FD have that decision fresh in their memories and we'll see Tyson, Kent, Hibberd and Frost in about round 3 or 4.

I am really hoping for a big effort to bury once and for ever this emabarrasing losing streak. Don't want to see another Harlem Globetrotters Vs Washington Generals game.

Tyson will not be picked for Saturday's game and here is why:

- Positionally speaking, he offers the least when compared to most of our mids and given he's played one awful JLT match and one Casey game in which he hardly dominated, I'm not sure why everyone thinks he's a lock for round 1. He is both out of form and underdone and is competing against a young midfield brigade who have had full summers and played the majority of the JLT with at least one really good performance.

- We don't need another slow two-way running ball extractor injected into an already fairly one-paced midfield against a fast St Kilda side on a fast deck. Especially when he has no form behind him.

- Tyson would have been a lock a couple of years ago in this particular position due to the lack of depth and talent our midfield had. Clearly we're a completely different midfield and it's now our strength.

I honestly don't know why most have him locked.

It will be nearly as big a mistake leaving Dom out as it is putting Spencer in...

Our midfield on JLT form comprises of Oliver, Gawn and some inconsistent support performances.

You are getting way ahead of yourself if you think our midfield is up to scratch without Tyson...

If deemed fit enough to play, Tyson, Kent and Garlett should all be automatic inclusions.  They make the side better.

I'm still very skittish about the potential selection of Spencer.  I don't think he'll suit the ground or the style of play we want at all, not to mention the time he takes away from Gawn in the ruck, plus I don't really rate Gawn as a forward.

It will be fascinating to see selection on Thursday night.

Viney's first and second games were fine.

Jones, Lewis, Oliver, Salem and Viney have had uninterrupted summers. Brayshaw and Petracca will roll through there.

I just don't see Tyson making the team based on what I said earlier.

He may not but he will be missed.

Viney for one plays much better footy when Tyson is around...and he's (Viney) struggled this preseason. Needs to pull the finger out.

You're kidding aren't you???? The kid is a star.  He was our 2nd best mid last year behind Viney

We have lost 14 straight vs Aints, We are playing at Shitihad!  I am not confident about our iffy backline, but having said, that the game will be won ( or lost out of the center!) I am tipping us by the narrowest of margins 1 point  but with some skepticism!

Aints are a good team! Dare I say it almost season defining game!!

It does feel big doesn't it. Round one always feels that way,  but we're also  playing another side who may be battling for the same ladder spot. Huge 14 game hoodoo to break, Goodys first regular season game a the helm with us and Vineys first as co captain. So...re season defining.... If we win I agree, if not I'll scoff at it.

Season defining eh? I love this site, and at times it's amusing (Stevetheman and ProDees little flamewar for example) but bloody hell, the amount of handwringing blows my little mind out the back of my head. Yep, if we lose to the Saints, Goodwin, the coaching staff will effing pack it in eh? That's it, here is concrete evidence that we are ahead of ourselves etc etc. As a supporter  a win might make you feel good, a loss might make you feel shite, but to think that the professional outfit that is the 2017 MFC model would buy into that [censored] means you're still thinking about this as a prepubescent snot nosed kid would -  about their first dance or first farrk with someone and how it will impact on their life...

Video fairly average.

I am cautiously optimistic re Rnd 1 but they burned us on the outside last year. Hibberd's run will be missed. Hopefully Kent and Garlett are fit and in the 22. We look better on paper than the Saints. Anyway its Rnd 1 so hope springs eternal!

I hope that we are sending someone with some balls down to Adelehad Stadium to inspect the surface before we commit to playing there Saturday and risking our players on the new surface.

Meanwhile Richmond,( Carlton ) Collingwood, Hawthorn,(Essendon ) get to play on their home ground round 1 !

Agree in general. If we turn in any sort of reasonable performance, this is probably the game that winning or losing means the least for our prospects for the season.

On the other hand, would be hugely frustrating to lose in exactly the same way as every time before. Let's at least show that we've learned something.

Don't complain about the draw, we've got a pretty good one this year. Could've definitely been a lot worse

Why the Tyson hate? Despite a slow start, he was superb for pretty much all of last year.

Was about to ask the same thing.. some ridiculous posts in this thread, wow.

Tyson is a gun and will be one of the first picked each week.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
