We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

Can't see him being rushed back against Brisbane. If he is however close to returning this week then he must be a solid starter against pies. Would be a good lead in game for the finals

The AFL bye week coincides with the first week of VFL finals which Casey will make.

Player eligibility for Casey:

http://websites.sportstg.com/assoc_page.cgi?c=1-118-0-0-0&sID=277333

Relevant clauses: play 6 games for Casey OR not play for MFC in R23:

(b)          Subject to  Rule 20(c) below, a Player who has played in an AFL Home and Away Match after 1 July in the relevant season will be ineligible to play in VFL Senior Grade or Development League Finals Series Matches unless that Player has played in a combined total of at least six (6) Senior Grade or Development League Home and Away Matches in the same season.

Despite any other provision in Rule 20, in circumstances where:

(i)           an AFL Club is participating in the AFL Finals Series, but is not playing on the weekend of the AFL bye weekend after the final round of the AFL home and away season; and

(ii)          the AFL Club’s VFL team is playing on that weekend,

any AFL listed player who did not play in the AFL Club’s AFL team in the final round of the AFL home and away season will be eligible to play in the Club’s VFL team in the AFL bye round after the final round of the AFL home and away season.

AFAIK, that means for example if Hogan didn't play R23 for MFC then he could play for Casey in the first week of the finals.

10 unavailable this week. Season over (x7)...

Garland

Vandenburg

Mckenna

Tim Smith

Filopovic

Joel Smith

now Kent

Others out

White - 2 weeks

Hogan - 2 weeks

Salem - suspended 1 week

Spencer - test /likely to play

Bugg - now available

Just ONE of those listed has been a regular this year, (Salem ...  patchy) therefore the list has no REAL effect on the team's performances... We need a few who are NOT injured to put in a bit more..Petracca (whom I like ), Wagner, Weiderman (hope he doesn't play again this year)  to mention just three. Viney is definitely still carrying an injury and Misson has a lot to answer for if he "cleared" him to play.. We have a good enough playing list to really cause some problems if/when we make finals but our forward line just need to give four quarters (not two) ..

Why is Kent's shoulder only now being operated on?

There has been scant info re Ken'ts injury. The club went to ground. Now its revealed he will have surgery? Something fishy here...

He only just left the rooms in Darwin. We forgot about him, medical staff went and brought him back last night.

The club, and Dean, hoped that it may have been able to be managed without surgery and thus be available in time for finals (and perhaps a final tilt at saving his career).  But now it is clear that he will not recover in time.

Goodwin saying that viney might also miss next week and is a week to week proposition.

He is so important to our midfield. Will be a big out for the next 2 weeks.

hopefully we can win without him and have him ready for finals which would essentially give him a 4 week rest from last weeks game

I can see Viney being rested for Collingwood as well. Huge out but hopefully worth it.

If we beat Brissy it is certainly an option.  He then will have 3 weeks to recover prior to the first final.   If we get done this weekend, then it is an all-or-nothing game against the pies.  If he can get up and get us into the finals, then he may will himself to do so.

We've had a simply ridiculous run with injuries (and suspensions) this season.

Might have missed it. What's the Viney diagnosis?

MELBOURNE co-captain Jack Viney is a "week-to-week proposition" as he recovers from a foot injury, but the Demons are confident he will still play a role in their finals push.

Viney will miss Sunday's clash against the Brisbane Lions at the MCG after the bone towards his toes flared up, requiring a period of rest and time on crutches this week.

I believe the injury is different to one sustained a number of weeks ago.

What does the "bone towards his toes flared up" actually mean? I assume "flared up" refers to some form of pain or inflammation rather than the bone shifting physically upwards. It's certainly a highly generalised explanation.

Viney aside,  we have our best 22 available at the business end of the season......planets have aligned, we can do some damage and it needs to start on Saturday!

Can't see viney getting up this weekend. Give him another 2 full weeks and be primed for elimination final.

In fairness, other than Viney there isn't much else in there that's best 22 anymore.

We sneak through this weekend we should be absolutely primed for the finals.

Pretty good time to get the band back together

I've been posting that for years. Except the Richmond dr didn't bring back their most valuable commodity, after dislocating his shoulder, to kick 6 on return.

i have renewed trust.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
