Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - MITCHELL HANNAN

his highlights on the mfc site look pretty encouraging.

looks like he reads the flight and judges the ball well, looks a good kick, looks like he has some pace.

at one stage he does something stringer-esque, and then in the next clip stringer is kicking the ball and he's marking.

i remember him bobbing up for a goal as he won a premiership for the dogs in the vfl, but i left after about the 10 minute mark of the last quarter, and don't really remember him standing out - it was all jong and adams destroying us in the third.

That's a big call to be making.  I like the selection, and I think he brings a few attributes to our list that we're in need of, but he would have to absolutely tear the house down over his first pre-season to be banging on the door early in the year.  There are plenty in his role who are ahead of him at the minute.

Fair enough.

Every season we see sliders and bolters in the 22.

I wouldn't be surprised if Hannan was a bolter.   He just strikes me as, a player that will play to the standard in which he is placed.

More highlights up on the club website.

I know it's just highlights, but that reel is considerably better than I had expected for a pick 46.

Had a big smile on my face by the end of those 4 minutes.

As you say, kid can play.

Going to be interesting to see how/if these lads can/will step up.  Am I correct in thinking their remunerations are sufficient for them to give away work ( in the main ) and concentrate on footy ?

That would be a world of difference . I suppose you might still keep your hand in on a part time basis but to wake up a footballer and not a "whatever" playing football should make for very different results.

yes ?

Main listed draftee gets 80k+ and very decent match payments now I think, play all 22 games and they can be banking more than 150 and even close to 200. Rookie list guys I think is 55k plus match payments.

I think Hannan said he had further study to do if he wasn't drafted so who knows, he might do that part time now or maybe wait a year to get sorted. Tim Smith might want to keep his plumbing skills up to date in some spare time but otherwise will have to be full time footy so he can't exactly be working weekdays!

Should be some fitness improvements with going full time. And definitely some strength and recovery. But it's the little things like having/being able to focus on diet and sleep and training in regular hours instead of fitting in training after doing a full work day that all add up. Smith's 25 and has a strong and fit body so he might not make huge inroads, but Hannan hasn't been playing VFL all that long and is young enough to probably make quite a bit of physical improvement.

The Arrivals Lounge piece on Hannan on the club website is quite interesting. He seems articulate and affable. His personality matches his new hair more than the long blonde locks that he had going for Footscray this year!

Interesting that he'd be up at 6, working and straight in to Dogs training before getting home by 10. They are full on days so the change to full time probably means a fair scope for improvement. Which I guess is true for most state league players but some of them probably had easier and more flexible jobs compared to full time in an architectural office.

He's open to the idea of midfield time as well as forward and I get the feeling that was part of why we drafted him. I'm hoping he gets a good run at preseason because I'm keen to see him play in the preseason games.

Yep... much needed speed and can snag a few. Let hope he can bring this on Saturday

I have just rewatched his highlights (insomnia)! If he can bring similar style tomorrow then it will be an exciting game and very watchable! To me, he appears a fusion of Hunt and Howe in the way he backs himself and he will quickly become a fan favourite and a headache for opposition coaches identifying someone to line up on him.

A good selection IMHO and I am looking forward to watching him and Hunt tear the Saints up! Go Dees!

He is pretty handy. I watched him a few times in VFL last year. More than capable of playing his role in our side.

Has a lot of talent and I thought that prior to him being drafted.

If he gets the right role and is able to get some confidence going he will surprise.

He is unlike anyone else on our list.

Is he like a Will-Hosken Elliott form GWS to Collingwood as a player?

Not sure about that.  He is just a very hard match up.  Will hurt in the air and on the deck and uses it well.  Has belief and courage in the air.

If he can do what I hope he can, he will be a big headache for the opposition.

It remains to be seen if it will all transfer up a level.  I think it will.

Reminds me of Liam Picken from the Doggies.

Have watched him from day one at training, beautiful kick off both feet, got his non preferred wrong when chatting to him

Another one like Hunt who looks like butter wouldn't melt, but onfield really agressive, one of the reasons we drafted him

Just hope he has been given the go ahead to get airborne if it's  there, we could be in for some fun either end of the field this Saturday

It's good to see the continual tinkering with the side. In, 2 experienced players and 2 talented debutants.

Yep we might be all pleasantly surprised with the Team at the end of this year. Who would have thought one Footscray, two twsnbn and a Hawk.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
