So what gets it done?  As an ageing star, He's probably got two solid years left...

Would Trengove and Dawes get it done

What kind of compensation do they get next year, if he walks?

so many questions

Probably not.

And don't curse Jack again.  Last time he was considered trade bate, he got injured again.

"There was an enquiry about Jordan, but he's a contracted player and a required player."

This is diplomatic trade-week talk that is said whenever a player asks to be traded.

Far from over.

Suspect Lewis planned the move, agreed to contract pending Hawthorn deal, which they also agreed to, but then backflipped when Mitchell deal got done.

Ok I'll play ball!

Lewis informs Hawks he wants to go to Dees! Now as we know EVERY player who declares a club of chioce nearly always gets there!

What do we need to do, to do the deal????

Key difference here Fence is that Lewis is still in contract.

And for those potting Lewis, yes, he is past his best but his best was superb. His most recent form was 2nd in the Hawthorn B&F. I think they went ok so his form reads pretty well

Nothing has been said that I can find regarding what we can offer them or what they would want in exchange, or have I missed something related to his contract status?

This story has been floating around Hawthorn pages since Monday so I find it staggering that I was the first to post about it here today, yet now there people claiming inside info.

The story is pretty firm. Lewis is still [censored] and you have to be well on the road to either wanting to leave or believing you are going to meet with the coach of another side.

We should throw money at Cyril just to stir the pot even more

He's a mega-deal marquee player you offer a $4mil/5 year deal to, or more (5/5) One of the best players in the league. As he's 27, it's a brave move to make. Don't die wondering. Signed until 2019 though so it would be costly. Like most here, i have faith in the list and whatever additions we make, but i can't help but think that a 'mega deal' for whichever a grade player, will be the tipping point. Could be wrong

Anyway, you don't stir the pot unless you actually mean it with an offer. Otherwise you just look like a deceitful club.

In my experience (granted I'm not a professional sportsman), once you make the big decision to leave a place, it's very, very difficult to switch your mind back.

I think he might leave.

Pity this has gone cold. Lewis is exactly what we need in terms of leadership and developing that cutting, competitive edge.

I'd assumed he would be the captain at Hawks next year. Staggered clarko would try to do a 'mitchell' on him. I like how he took the power back and said if you are undecided on my future let me make it easier for you!

hawks going too hard in their rebuild imo. These guys are club champs/legends

Shame it won't happen. The encouraging thing is he told Pickering to call us. That is an enormous vote of confidence for the group.

Wallet was just on SEN with the story of how it all transpired, suggested he was pushed to leave rather than been given the chance to explore his options should he wish. I think he will still become a Dee, it sounds (imo) as if the relationship is unrepairable

If he wants to leave , he just has to come out publically and say "I want to be a dee". No club can keep a player that says that. Its in his court.

Matt Thompson on SEN this morning said we had offered a 3rd round pick and a 2 year deal to Lewis.

Not an exact equivalence, but I don't think getting Daniel Cross did any harm to the development of our young talent.

However just need to pick him up for a good price, as I wouldn't support giving up too much for him at this point.

Agreed Rod, Cross was a terrific and necessary pick up at that time. However, we are now in a far stronger position and will develop just as well without these types of acquisitions.

Wow. I was led to believe the Hawks are the consummate masters of team harmony and player trading.

First they dump Mitchell to free cap space sensitively transition his career to its next phase. (Lucky for them he's professional enough not to dump on them in public.)

Now they've tried the same on the crown prince and got him [censored] off. They're a happy team at Hawthorn.

But they're the consummate masters! They never put a foot wrong!

Are we sure Lewis met with Goodwin? Haven't heard this one...Thought it was Pickering and Viney that met

This is exactly why in the "if Hawthorn get Mitchell and O'Meara thread then..." I said they'd have to pay.  Something would have to give.

Even if we don't get Lewis in the end, it is very nice to know that they've utterly shat off the old brigade in order to bring in all these high priced new young players.  They've thrown the players loyalty and goodwill back in their face, when they've all been paid unders for years to keep the cap under control and the dynasty alive.  I wonder what the team dynamic will be like when Mitchell, Vickery, O'Meara rock up for the first time.  Great stuff!

"Well well well. If it isn't young Jagger showing up to get his flag on a plate after me and Mitch and Lewis and Hodgey have been doing the donkey work at minimum wage for years ... and Tyrone ... what's that softc*ck doing here? And this new Mitchell ... too much like hard work to jag a flag at the Swans? Yeah, come to the Hawks where they fall from the trees til you trip on them. Razzin' frazzin' rhubarb rhubarb ... I wonder what property prices are like on the Gold Coast ..."

We are obviously miffed. The first time someone with credibility brought up the rumour, it was G. Wright on the Hawks website where he said there was an "enquiry" made about Lewis. Ultimately portraying it as if we actively went after Lewis. Mahoney and the gang are not only miffed the Hawks backflipped deal, but made it seem like we initiated it all. Then the "MFC people" Barrett referenced in the podcast, went on a spree to all news outlets making it abundantly clear that it was Lewis and his management that approached us, not us approaching Hawks, which their hierarchy would have preferred given the past week with Mitchell leaving. Wanted to save themselves from more criticism by not making it look like they were pushing out another of their premiership stars. Well done to Dees for not taking a backward step.

I haven't had a go at the club since the Neeld days.  But if this got through, FFS, I would have burnt my membership.  If you are going to recruit a pensioner, at least recruit someone that would fix a deficit.  Boomer at least would break a line.  Lewis is slow and one paced. (Tyson, Vince, Jones, Salem.....we are a one-paced team already)  He would have done nothing to our need for speed and line-breakage.  Actually, Melksham doesn't really add to it either....and Hibbard aint quick.  I think those on the inside of our club are as delusional as those supporters that actually think we are close to teams like the Bulldogs and St.Kilda.  There is daylight between us in terms of speed.

Lumumba gets a rough deal from Collingwood supporters and many MFC supporters.  At least he tries to break a line.

Jordan Lewis.  FFS.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
