Richmond's list resembles ours of a few years ago. Except for their top 4-5.

I was watching whilst I was having my lunch break at work, not pretty, made my sandwich taste bitter, we have a go at Spencer but Longer is horrible on this showing, like a lumbering tree

The Saints delisted tall defender Luke Delaney didn't they?

Maybe Goodwin is also covering bases and making back-up plans if Hibberd falls through. Shenton?

You're not stopping Riewoldt or Daniher without giving up a first round pick (Carlisle?) OR developing your own defending youth. B Grade defenders are on the table because they can't stop big forwards. 

Our defensive performances against Hawthorn and Port Adelaide showed we have a capable defence and Hurley wasn't such a pressing need. It's the turnovers in the middle and midfield leadership that killed our defence in the last two rounds, not the personnel\

Tom and Oscar McDonald and Frost were signed in response to "tall defenders are needed" - I don't know how much taller a forwardline needs to get to have us covered but it's surely not a frequent occurence that warrants adding more defensive depth on the sideline.

Interestingly a similar sentiment was just spoken about on ABC Perth.

Was mentioned that Hawthorn almost beat the Cats with the smallest forward line in the competition. Rioli and Poppy being main targets.

Delaney won't play AFL next year.  Has decided to play local footy down Geelong way next season.

Had a look at the VFL game for a half today and Meese looks like he goes alright.

I still wonder whether the club will just stick with Spencer as a back up to Gawn with the Kings as the developing talls, but sticking someone like Meese, for example, on the rookie list wouldn't be a bad thing.

I think HH is a better player than Miles, much better. I'd rather add a classy player that significantly improves our list, making a current fringe 22 become depth, rather than add another fringe player. Obviously there's more to it than that though.

No VFL club would ever stand in the way of a player getting drafted in to the AFL.  It'd be like putting a sign up at their ground saying "don't bother coming and playing here if you have AFL aspirations".

Hehas the leap, now he has size on his frame.  Currently others in front of him.  I think he can become that follower. I think he is athletic enough, & quick enough.

I feel like Spencer is the perfect depth ruckman. Not horrible, gives his all and has played some good AFL games but unlikely to become disgruntled and seek opportunity elsewhere. Maybe we want another raw prospect as insurance but I don't see the need to chase a number 2 ruck - we already have him.

I like Spencer but hasn't he been on the list for 20 years or so? 

Seriously, if Spencer had any ambition he would have gone elsewhere many years ago (I know he's been injured) and not stuck around Melbourne, it concerns me that he's happy to play VFL forever. 

You want a ruckman, or any player for that matter, to be hungry and desperate for a game, not someone that's happy to bring his sandwhiches along and watch the big boys play.

A mans got to know his limitations. When Spencer signed a contract before his last extension earlier this year he was behind an ageing Jamar and either level or ahead of Gawn. He's now behind Gawn but he'd also be behind most other starting rucks. I don't think agreeing to be a back up means he's any less desperate for a game, probably means he just knows his talent isn't all that great and he thinks he can perform but would be 2nd choice at most places. Nothing wrong with a bit of loyalty either. 

That said, Spencer is definitely a short term 2nd ruck. We need someone to take his spot and offer more soon. An ideal 2nd ruck has improvement left in them so if/when they get a chance they can rise to another level. That's not Spencer.

Longer's been wrecked by concussions this year. Was tracking better than Hickey last year before a drop in confidence this year. I'd have him as he showed a heap of talent when he was young but he might be a fair reclamation project right now.

I keep saying that as well, we also have Mitch King, and if they decide to go with Max King again?, that will be four, one of the 'journalists' said we were looking at a developing ruckman, that's where it all started, for backup we have Watts, Pedo?, even Frost could go in there

Goodwin himself said that we needed more ruck depth.

I am almost certain an assistant coach mentioned we would be looking to add ruck depth earlier in the year as well.
