Best for mine today was Matt Jones. Not only did he have the most touches be would've had the most metres gained out there his run and carry, and the uncanny knack of him and Viv seemingly always finding each other with their kicks. Second best Lynden Dunn, marshals the defence with authority, wasn't beaten all day in the 1 on 1s, his field kicking was superb, constantly hitting long targets with bullet passes. 

In defence he was ably supported by the skipper who was great, Mitch White whose ability to read the ball in the air and spoil or intercept was a highlight, and Jimmy Munro who had a cracker of a game. 

Michie was great especially early, Nibbler after a quietish first quarter really worked his was into it with his work rate and also took a couple of great marks. 

Olivers hands in traffic are unbelievable, he just find time and space in close to give to others in a better position to clear the stoppage.  He was fantastic and also appeared hellbent on squaring up with whoever it was that left him on his haunches earlier in the quarter when the last quarter scuffle broke out. 

Angus Scott had a day out with 4, he's kicked quite a few goals this year now, and 23rd player Ferreira also showed some neat tricks when he swings onto that left foot.

Spence was quiet and well beaten by Minson but McInerney provided him a decent chopout.

Terlich was very busy, but quite often makes basic skills execution look quick extremely difficult.  If he hadve kicked straighter it would've been a great day for him.  He may get a week for the late hit he needlessly put on his opponent in the 3rd, he got reported for it. 

Grimes was pretty industrious on his wing made some great takles and the last term goal a good reward for his day

Grime'y is surely playing what sounds to me his best footy of his career.  I wonder IF a change of thought may occur? 

And Dunny, bullet passes? to hit up teammates upfield.  Where has this been Mr Dunn ?

He played well after a mare of a first quarter but hardly BOG, might have a point on him being the sacrificial lamb after the saints game though. Wouldn't surprise me if you're correct on him being a tiger next year. Could also see him going to the Lions.

Like Trenners (probably more so than Trenners) he was unlucky that we had such a good run of injuries this year. Makes it very difficult to break into a team, particularly when youth is the direction.

If (hopefully when) Casey get to the GF I can see Grimes being given the BOG medal, he's been a great performer and would surely be a likely source for highest polling MFC player at the B&F. Alongside Nibbler.

PERSISTENCE PAYS OFF FOR CASEY by KC from Casey

Persistence has finally paid off for Justin Plapp's Casey Scorpions with a 70 point demolition of the Footscray Bulldogs in the VFL First Qualifying Final after 11 consecutive finals defeats since the commencement of the club's alignment with the Melbourne Demons. 

In front of a big crowd at Casey Fields the home side opened up the game in a manner that was not dissimilar to last week's final round match up with Box Hill. The team conceded the first three goals while squandering their own opportunities with Dean Terlich being the main offender in the early going. Despite a winning midfield of Matt Jones, Viv Michie, Alex Neal-Bullen and Ben Kennedy, it took until the 25 minute mark before the Scorpions managed their first major to big man Oscar McInerney and when Angus Scott slammed one through on the siren, the Bulldogs' lead had been pegged back to three points. 

The second quarter was something of an arm wrestle with the Scorps wresting the lead and the Doggies fighting back until late in the term when Terlich finally managed to find the big sticks for his first, following it up soon after with a pass to Sam Weideman who goaled to give the side a handy 8 point lead going into the main break. 

The second half began badly for the Scorpions with Terlich on report but the tide was turning in their favour on the scoreboard with Weideman and Scott both on fire up forward and benefitting from some damaging inside work from Clayton Oliver and Neal-Bullen. By three quarter time, the team had kicked away to a comfortable five goal lead which was the same margin Casey held over Footscray in Round 15 at Whitten Oval when the Bulldogs came home in a barnstorming finish to win by a point.

However, the difference was that back in July they came home with a raging gale at their backs whilst this time it was barely more than a zephyr. Still, there was plenty of fight left in the Doggies and for the first seven or eight minutes of the final quarter they gave it their all and narrowed the margin to 22 points after wasting a few chances to further narrow the gap. The Casey defence with skipper Jack Hutchins and veterans Lynden Dunn and Colin Garland to the fore was just too strong and with the weight of sheer numbers led by Jack Grimes who was once again superb around the ground and the hard work of Mitch White, the Footscray resistance cracked. 

The goals flowed from every source. Weideman and Scott combined well up forward. Liam Hulett chimed in for a couple and there was some impressive work from small men Ed Morris and the slick Aloysio Ferreira who was 23rd player for the day. Before you knew it, Casey had kicked eight goals for the final term and the mission to win a final was complete.

The result, which gives the team a well-earned week's break before playing off for a grand final spot in a preliminary final in a fortnight's time, was a triumph for Plapp who took over a team that two years ago that finished second last, ahead only of the now defunct Bendigo Gold.

AFL Victoria Development League - Second Semi Final 

In the curtain raiser at Casey Fields, the Scorpions opened the day in truly disappointing fashion. Having worked hard to make the finals and win the double chance after a slow start to the season, they were comprehensively beaten by 92 points and barely raised a sweat until junk time. They have a week to regroup before next week's Preliminary Final.

Correct.  He wasnt even in our best half dozen in Darwin.  Shocking 1st quarter, then got a lot of possessions once we took a big lead and the sting went out of the game.  Everyone had a lot of possessions that night, we over posseesed the footy, probably to slow the game down in the heat.

If both came in, I wonder who'd go out? All the marginal MFC players - namely Smith and King, were already playing in the dev league.  Of the Casey players (excluding 23rd man Ferreira), McInernie is the only fringe senior, having played 4/12 (seniors/dev league) games, but he is a ruckman so may need to play for team balance.  Munro and Morris have played 17/2 and 15/2 respectively, while Scott, Smith, Keilty and Hutchins have not set foot in the dev league this season and won't now.  I admit I know absolutely nothing about the Casey players, but someone is going to be stiff, as all have contributed to the season.

It may also be that the MFC are conservative on JKH and put him on ice for the season.  Otherwise, the game isn't for another two weeks, so he's got plenty of recovery time.

You are showing your clear bias there.  He was very good and named in the best in most match reports. He was named in the top 5 in the Demonland voting as well.

Unsure what game you were watching. Had 50+ hit outs I believe  including double digits to advantage. Kicked at least two goals when drifted forward and was with Polkinghorne and Heppel key to their last term fightback.

Dominant was the word used, I said, in my opinion, he wasn't, the whole team lifted, it takes 22 to fightback, I thought he looked like he is, an ageing big bodied former AFL ruckman playing at VFL level

Seems to be the "finals venue" these days. Back in the 90s used to be Vic Park, Windy Hill and Moorabbin. Previously Junction Oval was the Association's finals venue.

I remember going to the 2006 Sandringham v Geelong grand final at Princes Park when we were aligned with Sandy.

We won but I came away thinking it was not really the Dees.
