I can see Michie replacing Harmes who has been named on the bench.

Michie is very good in the wet.

I'd go Mitchie for Harmes. But then I'm probably not seeing what the coaches are seeing.

Disappointed Salem isn't included, feel that we need that kicking accuracy, but perhaps it's a step too far for him at this stage of coming back.

Also, was wondering whether Trengove mightn't get another look in, he seems do be doing increasingly well at Casey. But probably needs a solid pre-season before that'll happen.

for the first time in many years we have a side that really has something to go out and play for, this week will help determine how far we have come,

Dare to dream that we can play finals this year.

Interesting are Plapps reports. He's obviously guided by selection hence the time his spiel gets released.

It could say something like - Dean Terlich:

"Terls had a solid game today with 76 disposals, 24 marks (18 contested) and 19 tackles. We recognise his effort has improved and whilst he got a bit of the footy, he wasted his opportunities and failed to bring teammates into the play. With a performance like this, Terls will continue to put pressure on the senior team."

Carlton have a fair bit of spirit under Bolton.

But if we don't batter them I'll eat my hat.

Agreed, but their last fortnight has been appalling.

They were toothless against St Kilda and they just lost to Brisbane last week which says it all.

Doesn't mean we can just show up and get the win but they have fallen in a bit of a hole of late and we should be able to comfortably win this game.

Bit of end-of-season slump for them, players with nothing to play for, Murphy out etc.. This means a lot more to us than them ... just hope we haven't got ahead of ourselves.

For mine, Michie in for Harmes with Stretch, Pedersen and Oliver to round out the bench.

If Garlett does not come up bring in ANB and Weeds for Hogan if he is not up to it.

Looking at the team it is a very strong team and any players that step in will not weaken it with their presence.

B: Sam Frost, Tom McDonald, Neville Jetta
HB: Jayden Hunt, Oscar McDonald, Tomas Bugg
C: Christian Petracca, Bernie Vince, Dom Tyson
HF: Angus Brayshaw, Jack Watts, Aaron vandenBerg
F: Jeff Garlett, Jesse Hogan, Dean Kent
FOLL:  Max Gawn, Nathan Jones, Jack Viney
I/C :  Viv Michie, Clayton Oliver, Cameron Pedersen, Billy Stretch

EMG: Alex Neal-Bullen, Sam Weideman

Dees by 45pts.

Michie doesn't get it enough, nor is his disposal damaging enough. Mind you, his disposal is neater than Harmes'.

Perhaps Michie to get a run this week (replacing Harmes) - he's been exceptional by all reports at Casey.

And ANB the week after - he had a belter against Geelong at Kardinia last year and has been the form player in the VFL all year.

I don't want to see too many changes to this list at the end of the year. It's in pretty damn good shape.

Not quite ... they could make him goalie in the social club soccer team ... he'd be impassable.

What has happened to Wagner

How is he going at Casey?Haven't read anything about him lately

Posted

My suspicion is that Michie might come in for Pedersen (or Hogan if he's not fully fit/over his illness) if it's particularly wet. Pedersen could count himself unlucky if that's the case, but with a lot of rain and showers forecast from now until gameday (and beyond), it might be judicious to replace a slower, marking tall player with a ground player.

If Garlett isn't fit, I would expect Neal-Bullen to be called up.

And I don't expect Weideman to play at all, given the expected conditions.

So it may be difficult conditions for us to kick a major margin improving score? Hmmmmm not good news

Not great in the last report. Sounds like he is tired and struggling to run out the season.

Once again we go in as the younger and less experienced side. Can't remember saying the opposite in a game this year although I am confident there must have been at least 1 or 2.

This is a game we must win. We have a clear incentive to do so, they don't, we are in good form, they aren't. If we lose I will be disappointed as it will truly be the end of the season. I will find some solace in the fact we are still in the finals hunt in the second last round though.

We win by plenty after a tight first half.

Just listened / watched the weekly episode of 'Roos Views'.  At one point Roosy said that getting our boys 'up' for recent games has been mostly "player driven".  He heaped praise on Jonesy and the rest of the leaders for their work on this front.  Just love the words "player driven".  That's what happens at in successful teams.  Dees by 8 to 10 goals on the back of that, I reckon.

Interesting data. It amazes me how much older (on average) the Carlton team is, even though their games average, while higher, does not seem so great. I guess this means that the Carlton team has a number of fringe players who have played fewer games per year. Hardly surprising, if that's the case.

Very serious players at training today - from club website:

http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2016-08-19/photo-gallery-friday-august-19

According to foxfooty Hogan trained today.  Garlett didn't.  Both to be assessed again later.  If either/both can't play I have full confidence in the extended bench that who ever comes in will step up.

When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
