Aaron VandenBerg, Colin Garland and 2017 first round pick for O'meara

rumour has it the Suns have a strong preference for established players over picks.

Haha, if that got the deal done, yes please.

The trouble with trading established players for O'Meara is that few clubs would want to lose the calibre of player who would warrant a trade. It will have to be a good player(s) and a high pick(s).  Like the Judd trade.

I meant Ess could get O'Meara for a PSD pick and not their main draft #1 pick.

Maybe not but he did the right thing by WCE to ensure they got a fair trade.  If I recall - an early rnd 1 pick and Josh Kennedy.  That showed some character and integrity in my book - a lot more than Luke Ball who just crapped on the Saints who got nothing.

It was 3 plus 21, plus Kennedy.

please anyone except the friggen drug cheats to get Omeara. I coudnt stand it.

It shouldn't be. If we're seriously comparing an A grade premiership captain with a player who had two exciting first seasons and hasn't played for two years, then I think we're being stoooopid.

If the Drug Cheats get him with PSD pick 1, I reckon I'm just about finished caring about the AFL as an entire sport. It would the icing on the cake for the most disgustingly corrupt saga in Australian sporting history, and the surest sign yet the AFL have adopted a 'Whatever It Takes To Get Essendon Up The Ladder' strategy.

Gold Coast may have shot themselves in the foot with this strategy.

Curious timing of his announcement, i wonder if the announcement over at North might be freeing up some cash to get O'meara over the line there?

Of those options only the 2017 first rounder is an established player

It's weird, I don't really feel we should take this risk, but I don't want any of the other clubs to get him either. I would really have liked to see him stay at Gold Coast for a change, especially after their investment in him.

Certainly don't want to see Norf get him on the off chance he gets healthy again. Much less Hawthorn, whom a healthy O'Meara is the ideal replacement for Hodge, and it's just the kind of good luck BS that always goes Hawthorn's way.

I've got it from a very good source that 90% he willl be a demon. I'm good friends with braysure, whose cousin cuts GNF's hair and heard it from him

GNF hasn't got any hair. Heppell has, and he looked pretty happy on Fox tonight when asked the O'Meara Dorothy Dix question.

But i mean if the Suns don't accept an offer in trade week, and he doesn't nominate for the draft, surely there would be a point where his contract ends and he's delisted?

You can only be a DFA if your club fails to offer you a contract.  If GC have made him an offer then he can't be a FA.

GC's problem was dumping Bluey, who was well liked by the playing group. Prestia was gone long before this season and that coaching change may very well have played a part (although I suspect it was a combination of the go home factor *and* the party factor plaguing GC lifestyle). Brisbane has suffered the same fate by giving a job to one of the boys...twice.

Both clubs need a Leigh Matthews- or Paul Roos-type figure to completely change the culture and rebuild from the ground up. How Brisbane can go from one of the most revered clubs with a strong culture and fantastic drafting history to an utter basket case in 10 years is astonishing. And all at the hands of past players who helped build that strong culture.

Matthews us been at Brissy for 2 or 3 years... It's a basket case I don't get the Matthews love, he's past it. Stick to your terrible TV commentary Leigh.

My money is that he has his mind set on Hawthorn and Gold Coast knows this.

Unfortunately this sticky situation will deem it very difficult for Gold Coast to secure the best deal for their club, which is why they have come out and said Jaegar has no right to choose what club he is heading to.  Hopefully the club can secure the best deal they can, and he doesn't hold the club ransom and strong arms Gold Coast to get to Hawthorn and them only having to give up two first rounds which doesn't really equate to much when they finish high on the ladder.

Just get him

An injury prone , non proven player who drinks his own bathwater methinks. I agree with the club, they have looked after him and he does this.

I wouldn't entertain any thoughts of getting him. I think he might be done. TWO bad knee injuries!

Caveat Emptor with this one!

I agree juzz, apparently Hawthorn have been chasing him for quite some time. The fact that he's not going back to his home state and coming down to Victoria, to me, suggests a deal between player and club has been done for some time. Just a matter of Gold Coast agreeing to the trade.

Yep.

But if it got to that stage, he would go in PSD and all over red rover.

GC17 saying they're after players & not picks for O'Meara and they want a player of the same ilk.

Salem & Garland for O'Meara & a late pick coming back.

Yes?  No?  Not enough?

It won't happen. The club would be insane.

Great talent but we can't afford what they want and he cna't get on the park.

The Dees have been pretty frugal with their picks and trades. Haven't got a lot wrong. No way will we entertain a trade for OMeara for a second.

Not enough quality to them I'd say.

Think more like Brayshaw and Salem for O'Meara - just don't think it's worth it for us.

This won't happen.  If they don't trade he will go into the national draft and not hold off to the PSD.   If this occurs they won't use pick 1 on him in the national draft.

the only chance we'd have with the Salem/Garland offer is if noone bites and that's the best on the table, coz that's a much better return than letting him walk to the PSD, having said that he won't be coming to the Dees

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
