Have a friend of Garlett's on snapchat and he posted a video of Garlett and he could hardly work. Looked in real pain even though they were laughing. Maybe won't pull up or are they generally that sore and still pull up fine by the end of the week?

As its a replacement game this week where do all the dees supporters go, what part of the g I usually just do standing area near m13 in great southern stand I assume that will be mostly blues supporters so keen to stay away from them

ANB is the one that I am not certain of his position in the team... I think he needs a run of more than 1 or 2 in a row for us to see exactly where he sits at the top level...

Was in good spirits during the warm up... On the boundary giving $hit to Bugg when he was having shots...

I think he offers more than just being a fringe player and I for one hope that he has a ripping pre-season and breaks his way into the side on a more permanent basis...

Clubs need players like ANB to keep others on their toes!

Tend to agree, just too tempting to put Weeds back on the park and quicky. Needs to get games under his belt. I wonder if Harmes could do with a rest?

Salem for Harmes. Weed for Pederson. That team is now looking like a winning 2017 combination.

Can't believe the lack of love for Pedo. I really enjoy his physicality and attack at the ball. Feel more confident with him in the side and think he works well with Hogan.

Agree on Oscar Mac. At the start of the season I was nervous as hell when he went near the ball, now he's looking safe as his brother. May end up the better McDonald?!?

Would love to have seen Trenners make it back into the side but at this stage he'll likely finish his career elsewhere.  I'll take Garlett over JKH for now - he knows where the goals are.

Would be happy with no change.  But I also wouldn't mind seeing

In -   Salem, JKH

Out - Vanders, Harmes

It's not the lack of love.  Pedo is great to have as a back up.  Weed was good in his first game and other than the corkie he would have played this week.

Means we can play Hogan at CHF which I think is the best position for him.

I want Salem back in the team but not as a defender. As good a player as I think he'll be, I don't think he'll ever be a great defender.

It's been mentioned he's been playing in the midfield at Casey. Can anyone elaborate if this is still the case?

I don't think we would spend three years and a crapload of money to get Trenners right to simply just play two senior games.

His is extremely talented and was taken at pick 2 for a reason. He is averaging 30 disposals per game in the VFL. Would be foolish to let him go. He is only being kept out by our next to no injury list.

Watching the game live standing up on the hill you get a better idea of what Hogan does and leading isn't one of his strengths and he's a lousy disposer of the ball.  A largish contingent of demon supporters in our area and thought the same. Great contester in packs but that price tag must be based on some future upside. On the other hand, that real love for jack watts is now fantastic - his forward pocket goes in the last steadied the ship for sure.  Tyson is straight our engine rook material too. Another 10 possession first 1/4 when it was needed.

His field kicking is very good, push him a little further up the field with Weid at FF. Hoges then can push back hard into goal square as needed, he'll be very very hard to match up on.

Really hope you're right. Will he be happy being a fringe team player who has to rely on injuries to get a game?

I was thinking that Jay Kennedy Harris may be a nice replacement for Jetta when he hangs up his boots as the small defender. JHK does need to learn more about defending but I think he would be good down back.

Then I looked up Neville Jetta's age - he is only 26 - why does he seem to have been around forever ?

Would prefer ANB to replace Vanders and agree with Salem for Harmes.

M Jones for Harmes - Harmes is just not precise enough with his kicking for the half back role. I don't think Salem is fit enough based on the VFL reports. M Jones to play on a wing and N Jones or Vince to play at half back.

Weideman for Pedersen - I know a lot of people are worried about finals, but it is only a long shot and we need to give Weideman another taste for next year. I think we will win easily anyway.

The weather forecast for Friday, Saturday and Sunday is wet, wet, wet. So, does one tall come out for a small?

I haven't seen the Port or Casey games, so I'm not naming specific players. But I wonder whether the best performing small comes in for the least performing tall?

brendan there will be plenty of room this Sunday.

There will not be big Carlton crowd and it will be 75% dees supporters so enjoy.

Even with the position shift, you're dropping a player for being a poor kick, and bringing in a player who is a worse kick and adds less 'off the ball' attributes to the side.  Harmes is unequivocally a better player than Matt Jones IMO.

The only circumstance in which I'd support omitting Harmes is if it's in place of a fit and firing class ball user, like Salem, but as you suggest he may not be ready.

I'd like to see Harmes move towards half forward, where he did damage earlier in the season.  His strengths - work rate, toughness, marking - will be put to good use there, but the occasional misuse won't hurt so much. Harmes forward, Brayshaw and vandenBerg to spend more time in the middle, Jones/Vince to half back.

M Jones repacing someone due to that persons poor kicking, I never thought I'd see that day

That aside I don't mind those changes assuming you're right about Salem not being ready. But at the same time I doubt Harmes will be dropped.

There isn't much in it but M Jones has been better than Harmes this season IMO and is a better kick. (FWIW I would have neither of M Jones or Harmes off half back, where turnovers kill you.) I think M Jones was a bit stiff to be omitted two weeks ago and has since had two 40 possession games in the VFL. IMO we need to push N Jones and/or Vince to half back to give us more skill back there. This opens up a midfield spot and I prefer M Jones on a wing to Harmes, who hasn't been able to win enough ball when tried in the midfield.

Long term I see our biggest need is to find better skilled outside players to replace players like M Jones and Harmes (unless they can improve).

We just beat Port away by 40.  we had no passengers or poor players and everyone played their role.  Unless there is a star player out of the side, or someone gets injured, no change

so no change

I'd probably go no change.

And I'd swap Harmes to a wing and Stretch to half back for more of the game.

I'd love to get a good defensive forward in to clamp down on Carlton's half backs but the form that Kent, Vanders, Brayshaw and Petracca are in makes dropping one of them very hard.

Pittard got away from Kent, he'll have to lift his defensive smarts to stop Simpson. Hopefully they can drag Docherty deep and away from goal. Jeffy needs to watch Touhy as well.

Actually we had a number of poor players. Harmes, VBD, Viney (who was well tagged) and Hogan. Pederson was just serviceable and Watts was well below best. Petracca had little impact as well. Kent only had one tackle and made a couple of huge blunders.

There is a lot of improvement and our side didn't play well IMO. Very happy to win away against a very physical side but I think you are off the money with your comment. I can see Harmes, VDB or Pederson making way.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
