6,7,8 Jones, T'mac, Kent

This is what I hope eventuates and should. Wouldn't mind Tom coming in at 6 just before Jones as well.

I think these 5 have played their role the best and most consistently, Tom and Nathan have been a little more up and down and that might cost them

Agreed. And in retrospect ofy post a moment ago :P I'd probably have Tyson just ahead of Viney at 2.

I think Vineys first half of the year was better than Tysons second half, which is the only reason i've gone that way

with any luck next year they'll both be in that sort of form at the same time and we'll really be a dangerous side.

That's why I think if we can land a Tom Mitchell who'll also rack the numbers consistently, we'll have a dominant midfield of Gawn, Viney, Tyson and ie. Mitchell.

We improved our centre clearance work in leaps and bounds this year, but that was from a third world perspective. We've still got a hell of a lot of work to do to get to that elite level.

* I want to see us blocking and shepparding for each other. Hopefully get more guys to hit the contest at speed. You're a lot harder to stop then.

* Spreading quickly to the outside from the contest. More attacking use of the handball. Tyson is pretty good at this. Oliver is a genius at this. Someone like Mitchell is also very good in the use of an attacking handball.

* Preventing the third man up against Gawny. IMO, a half forward or winger should always be the man guarding that third man up.

I think if we can implement all of these points successfully, it'll go a long way to making this midfield elite, with first use granted by Gawn.

Jones is second only to Gawn in terms of consistency this season. All things being equal he's clearly in the top five players.

If it's a BnF for just the second half of the season then Tyson could be 2nd. If it's for the entire season, he gets bumped down the list. Same goes for T Mac. A strong second half to the year but it doesn't cancel out the first half.

Viney's last few games were poor, but for the bulk of the rest of the year he was outstanding. Around the halfway point of the season he was sitting top five in the coaches award.

Below is not a prediction as much as what I think it should be. It wouldn't surprise me to see the club BnF have T Mac in the top five.

1. Gawn

2. Viney

3. N Jones

4. Watts

5. Tyson

6. Jetta

7. T Mac

8. Vince

Vince, Hunt, Jetta, T.McDonald & Hogan (not necessarily in that order) will round out the top 10

Don't know about Hogan. I thought he was very disappointing this season. Not a super star like I hoped for.

Definitely agree. But considering he played 21 games this year, he may sneak into the top 10. Dean Kent might also be a roughy for the same spot.

Viney

Gawn

Jones

T Mac

Tyson

next in line, Jetta, Watts

although Viney slowed up at the end of the year, he still easily leads contested possessions and tackles and just leads the clearances.  He led beautifully all year and pips Gawny just IMO

To expand it a bit:

Norm Smith Memorial Trophy (Coaches Award): Nev Jetta / J Hunt

Ron Barassi Jnr Trophy (Leadership Award):Chris Dawes /Jack Watts

Harold Ball Memorial Trophy (Best Young Player): J Hunt

Ian Ridley Memorial Trophy (Club Ambassador Award): Jack Watts

James McDonald Trophy (Heart and Spirit Award): Maximus

Troy Broadbridge Memorial Trophy (Best Melbourne-listed player in the VFL): ? Jack Grimes

Following on from discussion on the Rising Star thread, how is the Harold Ball Trophy awarded? Is it for the first year player with the most votes in the B&F or is it an adjudicated award based on whatever the judges of that award may consider relevant?

Not trying to spoil the Max Gawn party, but unless Paul Roos has very little say in the vote-giving, then the B&F will be won by Jack Viney and by quite a big margin I'd suggest.

If you don't believe me, then go back and look at the coach's votes in the early rounds and Viney will probably be so far ahead by the time he hurt his knuckle in Round 10 that there'll be no way he will be caught.

Of course if someone can tell me that the match committee aren't involved with the voting and that those that do disagree vehemently with Roosy and reckon he has no idea, then I'm happy to hear another view.

But if you are going to the count and see a bookie and Jack Viney is more than 2-1, then get on board quick.

I think Roos does the coaches votes but the whole match committee (or 4 or 5 of them) all have equal say in the Bluey votes.

That was a toss up.

Being a Watts critic for years, I had to swallow my pride and give credit where its due.

By merging the thread, which was different to the generic B & F thread, the mod killed it.

It was a top 5 prediction.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
