I think it's only fair to aware Priority picks on the condition the club has to trade that pick, great way to inject immediate talent.

I don't mind the Lions getting an end of first round pick, it doesn't compromise the draft too much and could land them another good player so i think it's a pretty fair concession.

i felt we deserved one as well, but that's irrelevant now.

Pffft...not really bothered. A PP is not the answer as we all know. How many flags have Carlton won since their 3 PPs (Kreuzer, Murphy, Walker)? Much happier with the AFL getting us sorted with PJ and Roos. What's the old saying about buy a man a fish or teach him how to fish?

1 player at pick 19 is not going to improve their situation one iota.

But the reason for that pick is simply disgraceful, given our circumstances over the past 10 years, when we have been denied such largesse.

The lions don't have a Frawley to trade out for overs in compo, so the AFL had to fess up...

Pick 19, hardly worth our indignation... and not a big leg up for Brissie.

Irrelevant.

The AFL has made a statement today (as it did with its decisions over Essendon's treatment earlier this year) that certain clubs will receive different and special consideration. The AFL's draft is totally compromised and it's integrity in tatters.

For the record, Melbourne won 10 games between 2012-14, the Lions won 14 between 2014-16.

Try making sense out of that!

please compare MFC v the Lions performance over the period 2012 to 2014... 16th  17th  17th but NO PRIORITY

the AFL is seriously a joke

Lions have had 11 wins in the past three (21 if you go one season further back). Where as we had 14 wins in the thee years prior to Roos when we applied for one. Though, that includes 6 wins against the two expansion clubs which were no where near afl standard back then, so really it was  more like 8 wins and an extra 2 wooden spoons to go with the other 2 we had in that 7 year period.

Frawley for pick 3. Sylvia for pick 23. We were looked after.

But the Lions didn't have to wait for a year under their new coach to get the freebie like we did with Frawley. Didn't have to give up a player either.

There list is certainly better placed than ours when Roos took over.

That said, we have to aim to beat the clubs at the top not worry about what the ones at the bottom are doing.

ok so how does one go about legally getting rid of the current afl leadership team so that we can put football back on an even keel. The current board has shown they will give favours where they want and ignore so many other areas that may have been equally as poor or more deserving of help.

We had bigger issues to sort out and given our drafting in the past it was clear a PP wasn't going to make a difference. The AFL clearly helped us in other ways in terms of assisting us in getting Jackson and Roos, and no doubt some of the cash helped us get Taylor. Those 3 appointments are worth a million times what one more PP would be.

I was going to say something about how annoying and inconsistent it is, and that Brisbane are actually in much better position than we were, with a less awful recent performance history.

But honestly, 'meh' is winning me over.

I just don't care about Brisbane and I don't expect I'll much need to for a long time yet.

I agree.

However, by certain foolish MFC officials being too gleeful about our "underperformance" a few years back we forced the AFL to assist us "without it being seen as a PP.

How many have the Hawks won with their bunch of pp's?

It's not irrelevant at all. The AFL clearly look at these cases in detail and don't just paint them all with the same brush. They obviously felt in our situation that rather than a PP they would help us build the foundations of our club. Jackson, Roos and Taylor have turned this club around more than 10 priority picks would.

You can't seriously be complaining about how the AFL have treated us surely?

Cuts both ways. The AFL were complicit in the first place.

Taylor was signed pre PJ & Roos, he had to work out his time at C/Wood before coming across.

We might have to blame Neeld for this one.

Sorry, I should have clarified, I put in another comment that I felt the money the AFL have given us helped us attract Taylor over.

Agree. The AFL's version of "integrity" has little base in morality, but managing image and their egos.

We embarrassed them and were punished for it.

Nothing to do with integrity.

But aren't they just following their secret formula? Once they input the relevant data, the algorithm spat out the answer, i.e. end of second round priority. It's all done at arms length surely but people here are alluding to some contrived outcome!

Disgusting double standards, AFL just make it up as they go along. Hope the player they draft walks out on them after 2 years.

I am fairly meh about this as I don't think it will affect us as I don't think they will be any good for a while yet. I am also resigned to the AFL being a duplicitous bunch of flogs.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
